Hi Rick,

I tried out landscape but, by unlocking orientation, and found that I'm just
to use to portrait mode. the last couple years of having my orientation locked
has just made landscape foreign to me. I use the classic thumb typing style.
I hold my phone like one holds a video game controller or, a hand held video
game. I've been typing like this since the mobile speak days on my old HTC
Mogul. haha.

 Hi Carol,
I have gotten inconsistent results but had to do the following in
order to make the app force-switch:

 1. Turn on Force Landscape mode in settings/fleksy.

 2. Go into the Task Switcher and turn off orientation lock.

 3. Switch back to fleksy and rotate the phone. The developers say that
at this point you may again lock the phone but the switch to landscape
and back will still work within the app itself.

My results were that this did work until some hours later, when I

I took it to mean that this option would force Fleksy to go into landscape

I'm thinking of giving it another go anyway before making a final decision

Hi Carol,

Landscape mode worked for me on an iPhone 4 running the
current version of iOS 5.1.1 after going to Settings
Fleksy and turning on the switch for Force landscape.
You might check whether you have your device locked to
portrait mode by double clicking your home button to go
to the App Switcher, and then doing a three finger flick
to the right. When you touch the bottom left corner do
you hear VO say rotation lock, unlocked, button?

HTH. Cheers,

Re: ANYONE TRIED FORCING FLEKSY INTO LANDSCAPE?

2012-07-16 Thread Esther
Hi Carol,

I can't bring up Fleksy in landscape mode if I have a rotation lock on my
screen for portrait mode. If there's no rotation lock on my iPhone I can turn
my phone so that I use either portrait or landscape mode. I don't need to be
in this orientation when I launch Fleksy for the first time -- I can start it
up and have it give its loading messages in portrait mode, then I can change
it to landscape mode if I like. If I have the Settings Flecksy switch on for
force landscape then after I choose landscape mode and triple click home, it
will stay in that landscape orientation when I go back to type at any later
time -- even if I use the App Switcher to switch to other apps that run in
portrait mode.

HTH. Cheers,

Presumably, though, you still haven't locked the app switcher in portrait
mode?

I personally don't like leaving that switch unlocked as I'm always tilting
my phone and then finding it jumps between landscape and portrait; so I'd
prefer it if I could leave that switch locked but force (literally) a
landscape mode for this app only.

Is this not possible then?

Re: ANYONE TRIED FORCING FLEKSY INTO LANDSCAPE?

2012-07-16 Thread Esther
I can set the rotation lock to portrait mode after I've launched Fleksy in
landscape mode so my other applications are locked to portrait, but Fleksy
comes up in landscape mode in whatever orientation I originally chose (home
button to the right or left). Maybe someone else has a different experience
with this?

Cheers,

Esther

I personally don't like leaving that switch unlocked as I'm always tilting my

prefer it if I could leave that switch locked but force (literally) a
landscape mode for this app only.

 Is this not possible then?

 Hi Carol,

I can't bring up Fleksy in landscape mode if I have a
rotation lock on my screen for portrait mode. If there's
no rotation lock on my iPhone I can turn my phone so that
I use either portrait or landscape mode. I don't need to
be in this orientation when I launch Fleksy for the first
time -- I can start it up and have it give its loading
messages in portrait mode, then I can change it to
landscape mode if I like. If I have the Settings
Flecksy switch on for force landscape then after I
choose landscape mode and triple click home, it will stay
in that landscape orientation when I go back to type at
any later time -- even if I use the App Switcher to
switch to other apps that run in portrait mode.

 HTH. Cheers,

RE: ANYONE TRIED FORCING FLEKSY INTO LANDSCAPE?

2012-07-16 Thread Jon Pierson
Hi Carol,
I have gotten inconsistent results but had to do the following in order to
make the app force-switch:

1. Turn on Force Landscape mode in settings/fleksy.

2. Go into the Task Switcher and turn off orientation lock.

3. Switch back to fleksy and rotate the phone. The developers say that at
this point you may again lock the phone but the switch to landscape and back
will still work within the app itself.

My results were that this did work until some hours later, when I noticed
that orientation did not change from portrait to landscape mode. What I
don't remember is if I had removed the app from the Switcher in the
meantime.

Hi,

I'm asking the above question because I haven't yet been successful in
forcing a landscape start, evfen though I've tried taking Fleksy out of the
app switcher and rebooting the phone. I have found that on one occasion
anyway the symbols keyboard appeared and so I just had to go through my
routine of removing Fleksy and changing the setting then booting and
starting again. Before I report this as a bug I wondered if anyone else had
tried?

RE: ANYONE TRIED FORCING FLEKSY INTO LANDSCAPE?

2012-07-16 Thread Jon Pierson
Hi Carol,
You are correct that forcing means exactly that, regardless of the lock
state of your control in the App Switcher.
As I mentioned in my last message, unlocking the orientation once, switching
by rotating the phone within the fleksy app and then relocking should do the
trick.

I took it to mean that this option would force Fleksy to go into landscape

 Hi Carol,

Landscape mode worked for me on an iPhone 4 running the current
version of iOS 5.1.1 after going to Settings Fleksy and turning on
 the switch for Force landscape.
You might check whether you have your device locked to portrait mode
by double clicking your home button to go to the App Switcher, and
then doing a three finger flick to the right. When you touch the
bottom left corner do you hear VO say rotation lock, unlocked,
 button?

 HTH. Cheers,

 Esther

RE: ANYONE TRIED FORCING FLEKSY INTO LANDSCAPE?

2012-07-16 Thread Rick Alfaro
I've tried landscape using my fingers as well as my thumbs but I still find
portrait to be much faster for me especially when I use three fingers on my
right hand while holding the phone in portrait mode with my right. I use my
index finger for letters on the left half of the keyboard, middle finger for
letters in the middle and my ring finger for letters on the right portion of
the keyboard. So far, this is my fastest method in my case. I know this is
very subjective but I find it really interesting to see how others do their
typing.

Best,

Rick
