RE: I have a question that's possibly off topic regarding accessible security system
This is the real world application drawback for us. For sighted folks, it’s no big deal as they can just at a glance see in the notification screen capture or check the history if it was an Amazon or UPS driver doing a tuck and roll delivery which often it can be. Very rarely does anyone hang around after ringing the doorbell anymore I’ve had a sign at my front door for years saying “no surveys, cermons or solicitations” which has thankfully cut down on most of the unwanted traffic to my doorbell. In practicle terms though, the Ring doesn’t really add that much to the blind user experience in my oppinion at least. Mainly for the reasons mentioned above. It’s still good to have should something shady were to ever go down and have a record of it. The most exciting thing we ever captured was I think a bird of prey totally annihilating a dove or some small bird on our front lawn in the early morning. Every blue moon I’ll still get a persistent solicitor or someone who wants to save my soul though and that’s when I appreciate having something like the Ring. Please read the sign. Thank you, but no. This would be a doorbell device that when pressed, your phone rings and you answer it like answering a call. I have an Amcrest Smart doorbell and the ap is so inconvenient that by the time I get through the screens to answer the doorbell, the person has left. the Amcrest was supposed to have a desktop version that I would be able to answer my door on my computer, but it is totally inaccessible. What I will say is when my Ring gives up the ghost, I’ll next be buying a video doorbell and cameras with facial recognition capability. I believe Google nest doorbells and cameras have this capability. I’ve read that Ring may be offering this in a future software or product update, but we’ll see. I know there are all sorts of privacy concerns with big brother and all that noise, but big brother be damned. Video doorbell and motion detection alerts are nice, but what good are they for us if that’s the only feedback we the blind get? At least with facial recognition,, you can built up your database of people who may trigger your motion sensor. Neighbor cutting their grass. The FedEx guy dropping off a delivery. If you have an Alexa with a screen, you can see who is at your door quicker than bringing up the app on your phone, and you can talk to the person at the door through your Alexa device, or your phone app. To talk to the person through the Alexa device, just say ‘Alexa, talk to the back door, or whatever you name the door. To see the person, if you have a Alexa with a screen, just say, Alexa, show me the front door, or whatever you name the door. I have a question that's possibly off topic regarding accessible security system
All, My husband and I have recently purchased our first home and I'm wondering if anyone can recommend a good accessible security system? I was originally thinking something I can connect my Alexa or google assistant too, but I may be looking for too many things in one package. I'm looking for a security system, but also an outdoor camera and an intercom so when someone rings my doorbell I can ask who's there before I answer the door. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
