Thanks Chip,
It is a work forever in progress.
The scanning stands is a small part of it.

Later,
Richard

Hi Jim,

The StandScan Pro was the first scanning stand and was brilliant at the time.
It doesn’t matter if the phone is in a case or not as the key is having the
camera over the whole in the top of the stand for scanning the page in the
bottom of the stand.
The stand is tricky to set up and is a bit flimbsy as it is made out of
cardboard, though it is also very light weight and folds down quite thin.

The power supply or battery pack runs the LED lights so yu have consistent
lighting, which is its unique feature. If yu are going to go with this one,
get the Power bundle, that way yu get the AC adapter and battery case for 8
double A batteries so yu can use it when not around an AC outlet.

However, for a lot less money, I prefer the Fopydo Scanning Stand. It is made
from corrigated plastic, so much more durable and has such an open design that
lighting is seldom an issue and it too can be used with or without a case on
the phone. Plus, the Fopdydo can be used with an iPad Mini as it is sturdy
enough to hold the weight.
I have the descriptions and links to the various stands on my web page at:
http://www.turner42.x10host.com/ScanningStands.html

Richard

One question to add to my other questions regarding the StandScan Pro.
Can it be used when your iPhone is in a case? Mine’s a very lightweight case,
but I didn’t know if it would get in the way of scanning a picture.
Thanks again.

Subject: Advice on StandScan Pro

Good afternoon,

I’m seriously considering getting a StandScan Pro to use with my iPhone,
especially with such scanning apps as the KNFBReader. I’d like to know
people’s thoughts on it. How easy is it for a totally blind person to not only
use but also to assemble and disassemble? I know it comes with a power supply
or a battery pack. Do you recommend one over the other?
I figured a tool like this would allow me to take much better pictures of
things than what I currently take.
If you don’t like the StandScan, what would you use instead that would give me
the same results?
Any help or advice would be appreciated.

I agree, I leave mine together and just put it out of the way until I need it

  Hi Jim,

I like my StandScan Pro. It will take you a few times assembling it to get
the hang of it but, when you do, its very easy and fast to assemble. It fits
well in a back pack or briefcase. It has built-in LED’s so you don’t have to
use the flash. When I bought mine, it came with the wall adaptor and also the
9 volt battery case. If you want to spend a few dollars more, you can get the
12 volt battery case that will give you more light for dark rooms. Remember
that, to get 12 volts, you need 8 AA batteries and that can be quite heavy.

Also, to answer your last question, if your case has a hole at the back for
the camera, the case is not a problem as, with the StandScan, the phone just
sits on top of the box. The Stand Scan comes with small right angle pieces of
rubber which you stick to the top of the box once your phone has been aligned
properly. This way, you ton’t need to align the phone every time you use it.
Just lean it against the rubber corners.

Other people may have different opinions but, I’m very happy with my
StandScan Pro for my use.

One question to add to my other questions regarding the StandScan Pro.

Can it be used when your iPhone is in a case? Mine’s a very lightweight
case, but I didn’t know if it would get in the way of scanning a picture.

  Thanks again.

If you don’t like the StandScan, what would you use instead that would give
me the same results?

Any help or advice would be appreciated.

RE: Advice on StandScan Pro

2016-08-19 Thread Richard Turner

HTH,
Richard
