I am already wearing headphone to do my transcription, wearing the iPhone
ones at the same time is something I have done a few times but most of the
time it is uncomfortable, only have done it when I know I am getting a call
soon.

Hi Cait,

Just as a suggestion, did you check what the audio routing is set to in the
Accessibility settings?

Anyhow, I'd rather have it go and stay on the earpiece since I wish Apple
would take out this automatic switching to speakerphone. I see little reason
why a Voiceover user can't tap the Speakerphone button if the call should be
on Speakerphone just like any sighted person. I think overall this automatic
switching to speakerphone causes more issues than what it's worth.

RE: Any problems people have with the iPhone 5C

2013-10-16 Thread Neal Ewers
My wife got her 5C yesterday and I have been helping her set it up. The
speaker sounds nicer than the 5, it gets better battery life on some things,
and works like a charm. The back is a composite material that is very
slippery, so having a case for it is almost a must. It's a tiny bit heavier,
but you hardly notice. I even think the microphone call quality

Is marginally better than the 5, which wouldn't be hard to do.

Thanks all for the help.

RE: Any problems people have with the iPhone 5C

2013-10-14 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Neil,

I don't see why she should have any issues with the 5C, it's basically a 5
in a plastic housing. Any reviews of both the 5C and 5S I read on sites like
Engaged, The Verge etc. have been very positive and if she doesn't use
Voiceover and you really want feedback from other sighted users I suggest
doing a Google search about iPhone 5C complaints or iPhone 5C reviews.
You could also send a message to Rob from the Today in iOS Podcast and ask
if he could ask people in his audience who bought a 5C to call in with their
thoughts on the 5C. The email address is t...@gmail.com. I even suggest to
listen to this weeks Today in iOS Podcast which most likely should be out
later this week since he has only done one since the 5S and 5C release so
there will most likelybe be people calling in with their thoughts, reviews
or concerns. He normally does the Podcast weekly, but it's now been 2 weeks
and since it's likely Apple sends out their invites tomorrow for next weeks
iPad event, I am sure he will have an episode in a few days. I find Today in
iOS to be a very informative Podcast and well worth the listen once a week.

Sieghard

Re: Any problems people have with the iPhone 5C

2013-10-14 Thread Cait and Maggie
I have a 5 C and love it.

the problems I've experienced have been some of those related to voiceover.
these are a different screen sensitivity since installing OS7.x(I get this on
my i pad 2, also), when a call comes in, the phone automatically goes to
earpiece/up to the ear mode, even if I'm holding it away from my face.

Other then the little software things, which I think will even out as time goes
on, the hardware seems nice. The phone is light but not overly so.

RE: Any problems people have with the iPhone 5C

2013-10-14 Thread Neal Ewers
Sieghard and others. Thanks for this. I have actually done a bit of research
since I asked the question. The only differences I could find were.

The case is made of a composite material and is a tiny bit thicker and
heavier than the 5. There are different colors available.

Someone said that the speaker was some how different sounding, but I have
not authenticated that.

Battery life on calls is actually better on the C than on the 5. So the
different battery may account for the extra weight.

In all, it seems to be much the same. I don't know if any of the problems
Cara reported are problems on the C or not, but I have not read anything to
make me think that is true. At least, not yet.

Thanks much all.

Hi Cait,

Just as a suggestion, did you check what the audio routing is set to in the
Accessibility settings?

Anyhow, I'd rather have it go and stay on the earpiece since I wish Apple

why a Voiceover user can't tap the Speakerphone button if the call should be

 I have a 5 C and love it.

the problems I've experienced have been some of those related to
voiceover.
these are a different screen sensitivity since installing OS7.x(I get
this on my i pad 2, also), when a call comes in, the phone
automatically goes to earpiece/up to the ear mode, even if I'm holding it
away from my face.

Other then the little software things, which I think will even out as
time goes on, the hardware seems nice. The phone is light but not overly
so.

 Hi Neil,

I don't see why she should have any issues with the 5C, it's basically
a 5 in a plastic housing. Any reviews of both the 5C and 5S I read on
sites like Engaged, The Verge etc. have been very positive and if she
doesn't use Voiceover and you really want feedback from other sighted
users I suggest doing a Google search about iPhone 5C complaints or
 iPhone 5C reviews.
You could also send a message to Rob from the Today in iOS Podcast and
ask if he could ask people in his audience who bought a 5C to call in
with their thoughts on the 5C. The email address is
mailto:t...@gmail.com t...@gmail.com. I even suggest to listen to this
weeks Today in iOS Podcast which most likely should be out later this
week since he has only done one since the 5S and 5C release so there
will most likelybe be people calling in with their thoughts, reviews
or concerns. He normally does the Podcast weekly, but it's now been 2
weeks and since it's likely Apple sends out their invites tomorrow for
next weeks iPad event, I am sure he will have an episode in a few
days. I find Today in iOS to be a very informative Podcast and well
worth the listen once a week.

Hi, Muy wife wanted to purchase a Verizon contract with the iPhone 5.
She was told they were no longer being sold. So, my question. Are
there thos of you who have the iPhone 5C and if so, have you
 encountered any problems yet.
I was a bit put off by Kara's message earlier, not by Kara, of course,
but by what the message had to say. My wife will not want to spend
that much money anyway, so she will settle for the 5C. But I thought I
would see if anyone who is using it has found any problems with it.
She will not be using VoiceOver.

 Thanks much for your help.

 Neal
