RE: Apple acquires Primephonic classical music streaming service to improve Apple Music

2021-09-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I doubt it, but since probably nobody knows right now you have to wait and see
or maybe Google "News about Primephonic" from time to time and see if
MacRumours, 9to5Mac, Tech Radar or whoever else wrote anything about it.

Also, if you have any Sonos gear, several classical music services including
Primephonic are offered, below are their names and a brief description:

Classical Archives: Enjoy unlimited access to the largest collection of
classical music in the world! Expertly organised and curated now on Sonos.
Idagio: Discover classical music in lossless quality (FLAC). Listen to the
latest albums, exclusive releases and playlists created by our expert curators
Primephonic: Navigate the most complete classical catalogue in the world and
listen to hundreds of different recordings from your favourite work.

Keep in mind that these are all paid services, Sonos as far as I know offers
support for the largest collection of services both paid and free, this
includes access to your Audible library, AudioBooks.com, BookMate, Libby as
well as podcast streams, Sirius XM and many more, all in all over 80 services
and the good thing is that they all seem to be accessible through the Sonos app.

Best regards,
Sieghard

down on September 7, and they can get six months of Apple Music for free. Apple
will release a dedicated app for classical music next year that will have
features that Primephonic are familiar with, plus “more added features.”

Re: Apple acquires Primephonic classical music streaming service to improve Apple Music

2021-08-30 Thread Kimberly
I guess I’m curious why, at least according to the article, Apple is going to
be releasing a separate app for classical music? Why is this even necessary?
Why can’t it be incorporated into Apple Music? I am definitely going to be
writing to Apple about this. Thanks for the link to the article, it was very
interesting.

Apple acquires Primephonic classical music streaming service to improve Apple Music

2021-08-30 Thread Mary Otten
This is awesome news in my opinion. As long as Apple doesn’t screw it up, this
could be what classical music fans who don’t want to pay for the Primephonic
subscription, which I did for two years until I couldn’t justify it anymore,
Have been hoping for.

Apple acquires Primephonic classical music streaming service to improve Apple
Music
Macworld.com / Roman Loyola

Apple on Monday announced that it has acquired Primephonic, a streaming media
startup with a focus on classical music. In a press release, Apple says that
users will be able to access Primephonic playlists and exclusive audio content,
and that a “dedicated experience with the best features of Primephonic” will
eventually be available.

Digital music can be challenging to manage on streaming services—the metadata
system for music files was created with popular music in mind. Apple made some
improvements years ago when Apple Music was called iTunes, but it still was
frustrating for classical music listeners. With the Primephonic acquisition,
Apple says it can provide a better experience, with the ability to search by
composer and repertoire, as well as “detailed displays of classical music
metadata, plus new features and benefits.”

Primephonic started three years ago to bring a better streaming experience for
classical music fans.

A note on the Primephonic website seems to indicate that the three-year-old
company saw the acquisition as necessary for it to achieve its goals. “As a
classical-only startup, we can not [sic] reach the majority of global classical
listeners, especially those that listen to many other music genres as well,”
said the company. “We therefore concluded that in order to achieve our mission,
we need to partner with a leading streaming service that encompasses all music
genres and also shares our love for classical music.”

Primephonic users can continue to use the service for free until it is shut
down on September 7, and they can get six months of Apple Music for free. Apple
will release a dedicated app for classical music next year that will have
features that Primephonic are familiar with, plus “more added features.”
