Beware Bluetooth Upon Updateing to iOS 7.1.2
Hello Everyone, Upon updating to iOS 7.1.2 from 7.1.1 on my iPhone 5 S, I noticed that my Bluetooth radio was reset to, ON, despite being set to, OFF, just before updating. Hi Mark, Bluetooth is turned on by default on any version of iOS 7, this is true if you upgrade or do a factory reset and has been so since iOS 7.0 was released. Yes, this is now the default setting. It is for those with disabilities who require switch access for accessing their iOS devices. Unlike you, if Bluetooth is accidentally switched off, they cannot get it turned back on without assistance. It is far easier for you to turn Bluetooth off again. Switch Control was Re: Beware Bluetooth Upon Updateing to iOS 7.1.2
Heard of this Switch Control and sounds very fascinating. I don't think we as VO users can use it though. It's designed for severely motor impaired users who need special ways to access an iOS device, a switch device being one of them. Obviously these devices require bluetooth so this needs to remain on for them to work. Actually, switch control and VO can work together. You would not wish to do so, however, because switch access is inherently rather slow. Re: Switch Control was Re: Beware Bluetooth Upon Updateing to iOS 7.1.2
Well, I turn on my Bluetooth display about 90% of the time, so I didn't even notice. That is a great point about the switch devices. It makes me wonder about how often sighted folks think about turning VO on and off with triple-click-home. Icertainly don't see signs of Apple flagging on accessibility features as some have charged. Quite the opposite. :) Teresa We're made of star stuff.--Carl Sagan On Jul 1, 2014, at 5:16 AM, Gmail englishride...@gmail.com wrote: I would imagine this is also great for deaf-blind users who access and iOS device solely through a Braille display. Re: Switch Control was Re: Beware Bluetooth Upon Updateing to iOS 7.1.2
Switch control cannot be activated until a Bluetooth switch device has been paired with the iOS device. Switch control causes a scanning box to move from one item to the next on the screen. When the correct item is highlighted, the user taps the switch which activates the highlighted item. When the highlight is not moving, tapping the switch starts the highlight. I set switch control up for a blind person with severe CP. A head switch was used. An iPad was mounted to the wheelchair. A basic communication board app was loaded and locked on the iPad. The person uses the switch to control what the iPad says so he can ask for what he wants and basically communicate how he is feeling. For those with higher cognitive functioning, switch control can control all of the functioning of the iOS device. As I said before, access is typically rather slow. I don't think we as VO users can use it though. It's designed for severely motor impaired users who need special ways to access an iOS device, a switch device being one of them. Obviously these devices require bluetooth so this needs to remain on for them to work. It is for those with disabilities who require switch access for accessing their iOS devices. Unlike you, if Bluetooth is accidentally switched off, they cannot get it turned back on without assistance. It is far easier for you to turn Bluetooth off again.
