Re: Disney Plus and descriptive audio

2021-01-06 Thread Wayne Merritt
If anyone finds her Twitter account name please pass that along. I'm
not remotely active on Facebook. I searched for her on Twitter and
came up with @mirka_pavlikova, but there was no tweets or hardly any
other information on the profile. For other Twitter users, there is
the Disney Plus main account @disneyPlus. Perhaps mentioning them
would go somewhere.

Be well,
Wayne Merritt

Also if there are some particular you have in mind that you want audio
description from Disney. Let them know. The woman who is in charge of doing
that is active on the Facebook audio description group. She’s a wonderful lady
and very approachable.

Re: Disney Plus and descriptive audio

2021-01-05 Thread John JD Denning
I find this entire thread interesting. I’ve had Disney+ since day one. And one
thing that impressed me and my wife was the faster amount of content with audio
description. Like most of their back catalog actually I have to say I’ve only
tried one that didn’t have audio description but old classics such as Bambi,
and sleeping beauty and then movies from the 60s and 70s and 80s all with audio
description and then Marvel and Star Wars content and I knew if I tried
something it I didn’t have it try it again in a short time and sure enough

Oh wow, sorry no punctuation. I’ve just been doing lots of messages on
WhatsApp. But you get the point I am incredibly impressed with Disney and what
they’re doing and trying to do better all the time. The only other network
that’s really doing that is Apple TV+. Yes Netflix and Amazon have audio
description. A very quality. And not nearly the amount Percentagewise of their
catalog. And Amazon is starting to do synthesized audio description and that is
utter crap. So they’re going for the quantity just not the quality. I want both
I want everything with audio description and a high-quality.

Disney has a lot of old and now new movies,

Remember the old ones in most cases wont have been digitised so they will have
to be working through them to convert them to a digital format and then add in
the likes of the AD and subtitles type features

The newer movies / tv shows are being produced in digital formats so there is
no real delay in getting them on to the Disney service with adaptive features
like AD etc.

So give it time.

Along with Wayne's good info, they have added audio description to a lot of
older films. We watched White Christmas with Bing Crosby last week and I was
pleasantly surprised to find it has audio description.
That movie came out in 1954, long before anyone thought of audio description.
They've done that too with lots of their old animated programs like the
original Peter Pan from 1953 I think.

It is a great service.

Richard, in the U.S.

"You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon
airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep
space, that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was

When Disney Plus first started over a year ago, I called Aira for help.
However, the app has gotten better. When playing a show/movie, go to the audio
and subtitles button on screen, when moving through the screen, find the
English audio description item and activate it.
Note, you will have to be playing a title which has description already for
this to show up. Refer to the Audio Description Project link which was posted
in an earlier message for the full list of titles. However, all Disney Plus
original programming, such as Soul and any other Disney Original show or movie,
will have description.
You may find it easier to enable audio description with the movie or show
paused. When I did this in November 2018, Aira made the change on their web
browser and it was remembered and retained across any devices on my account. I
would imagine this would still be the case today though your mileage may vary.

Good luck,
Wayne Merritt

RE: Disney Plus and descriptive audio

2021-01-04 Thread Richard Turner
Along with Wayne's good info, they have added audio description to a lot of
older films. We watched White Christmas with Bing Crosby last week and I was
pleasantly surprised to find it has audio description.
That movie came out in 1954, long before anyone thought of audio description.
They've done that too with lots of their old animated programs like the
original Peter Pan from 1953 I think.

It is a great service.

Richard, in the U.S.

"You know," said Arthur, "it's at times like this, when I'm trapped in a Vogon
airlock with a man from Betelgeuse, and about to die of asphyxiation in deep
space, that I really wish I'd listened to what my mother told me when I was
young."
"Why, what did she tell you?"
"I don't know, I didn't listen."

2021-01-02 Thread Richard Turner
It is on the Samsung TV though.
You need to get into the settings for Disney plus on the TV.
We have a Samsung TV and later today I hope to have time to go through and get
the steps so I can write them out.
Once it is on, it seems to automatically work on any program that has the
descriptions.
