Here in Chicago, BMO Harris Bank offers the ability to withdraw cash
using an iPhone or android phone. I am not a customer of this bank and
do not know how accessible the bank’s app is to perform this task.
Unfortunately, the most sophisticated functions available on talking
ATM's today are not on this bank’s iPhone app. The blind end user must
utilize a talking ATM. Chase seems to have the most access to the
 advanced features.

At chase, people can deposit checks without an envelope and the
machine reads the amount on the check, even if it is handwritten. The
check can be deposited without inputting any amount as this is
captured by the ATM's scanners. Also, cash can be deposited without an
envelope and the ATM recognizes the denominations of the paper
currency and presents them to the end user in audio for approval. The
latest functionality is that the ATM stocks all bill denominations
except the $2 bill. The blind end user can use audio to select the
denominations of the bills to be withdrawn. The ATM does not mix
denominations for the audio user. Bills of the same denominations are
dispensed at the same time until the entire amount is withdrawn. To
summarize, you may be able to withdraw cash using the iPhone app from
some banks. It is unlikely though that you can specify that you want
four $100 bills for a withdraw of $400 instead of all $20 bills.

I figured as much that Chase might not take Capitalone 360 for ATM deposit.
I had heard that Allpoints was working on deposit acceptance though.

RE: Do you use ATM to cash your money?

2015-08-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi,

I am just curious regarding the accessibility of ATM machines in other
countries. Here in Canada pretty much all ATM machines now have a headphone
jack and as soon as I plug in my headset they start talking and guide me
through whatever task I want to do with voice prompts. The only time the
machine is not accessible is when I forget to bring a headset and since I
usually have my iPhone and Apple Earpods in my pocket this is rarely the case.

How is this in the United States, New Zealand, Australia and some of the
European countries? I know there are people from all of these places on the
list.

RE: Do you use ATM to cash your money?

2015-08-05 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,

There are still quite a few of the older ATM’s around my area in Florida that
are not accessible. No one bothers with them though anyway because around here
everyone is afraid of skimmers. Skimmers have been a really big problem in this
urban area the last year or two even in grocery stores. I think I used an ATM
once in the last five years. I either get cash back at the grocery store which
will give me up to $50 when I get groceries or I go to the bank which I do
about twice a year when I have a buildup of checks that are about to expire. I
know many people still need cash for various reasons so I am not a typical
individual but I am either fortunate enough to never need cash or fortunate
enough to never need cash. Sometimes I can’t decide either, smile!

I don't think there is an ATM that would use Apple Pay out there, but it is a
good idea we should suggest to Apple some how. I don't see why it couldn't be
technically done except for the fact that ATM's need a pin. I do primarily get
my money out of them though when I do need cash.

Yep, that's been my experience in Canada as well. Even the newer machines
that have gone to touchscreen interfaces still have the headphone

My only complaint is that the volume is initially very low. That would

Re: Do you use ATM to cash your money?

2015-08-05 Thread Eileen Misrahi
My question to you are: If in the future the ATM companies may opt for touch
screens, where will this leave us?, Will we be back to square one like several
years ago when the NFB sued Diebold?, and What was the companies response in
regards to accessibility if they choose to proceed with touch screens? All I
can say is that the POS machines in various types of establishments have become
less accessible. I can swipe my card, put the pin in, but the ability to select
cash back and to accept the amount of purchase is not accessible because these
options are on a touch screen. This makes me once again dependent upon others
to complete my transaction.

To answer another post about the ATM machines in the US, all of the banks that
I need to perform a transaction with have headphone jacks. For the most part, I
don’t have any problems using the machines if I do elect to use them. Since
most computer software in the ATMs are still on XP, I usually go into the bank
to do all of my banking or at home with online services. At least at home, I
can control the security aspect as best as I can.

great because we all know exactly how to use it. The company will not
introduce flat screen ATMs in the U.S. any time in the near future
because of current requirements in the ADA that need to be changed

What's a skimmer?

All the Chase ATM's I've come across have been accessible via the headphone

in this urban area the last year or two even in grocery stores. I think I
used an ATM once in the last five years. I either get cash back at the
grocery store which will give me up to $50 when I get groceries or I go to
the bank which I do about twice a year when I have a buildup of checks that
are about to expire. I know many people still need cash for various reasons

Yep, that's been my experience in Canada as well. Even the newer machines that
have gone to touchscreen interfaces still have the headphone jack.

My only complaint is that the volume is initially very low. That would
definitely give some people problems.

I don't think there is an ATM that would use Apple Pay out there, but it is a
good idea we should suggest to Apple some how. I don't see why it couldn't be
technically done except for the fact that ATM's need a pin. I do primarily get
my money out of them though when I do need cash.

In the U.S., at this time, all A T Ms have raised keys. The company
that manufactures most A T Ms has them with touch screens and they
have speech if you have head phones.
There are touch screen A T Ms in many other countries.

Eileen, the touch screen I tried at the NFB convention used head phones and
speech. There will not be touch screens in the U.S. until there can be
clarifications in the ADA. I didn't find it hard to get money using the touch
screen and speech.

A skimmer is one of those devices that criminals cleverly slip over the card
slot so that as your card is inserted, they capture the data from it, and the
machine still lets you do your transaction. I'm not sure how they get rid of
that problem. I would think that could drive innovation to doing things
app-based to get the card out of the equasion.

I don't think there is an ATM that would use Apple Pay out there, but it is
a good idea we should suggest to Apple some how. I don't see why it couldn't be
technically done except for the fact that ATM's need a pin. I do primarily get
my money out of them though when I do need cash.

I never knew about that part before. Another thing I do is to put my left hand
above my right hand when entering the pin so that the number pad wouldn't be in
view of any camera these skimming devices have.

Yep, that's been my experience in Canada as well. Even the newer machines
that have gone to touchscreen interfaces still have the headphone jack.

My only complaint is that the volume is initially very low. That would
definitely give some people problems.

Could I deposit with the Chase machines into a bank account that isn't with
Chase? I do have access to an iPhone app through my bank that does mobile
check deposit, but getting the picture of the check is a real bear. I can
upload from the website too, but they don't like what comes out of my HP
all-in-one when it comes to scanned images. I even verified with my dad, and
he said those do look better than the phone, but nobody knows what the
secret is to getting them accepted because the automation rejects it with a
generic error.

I have experienced this as well. The volume is so low that with back ground
noise, it is hard to hear it.

Romans, 8:1 and 2. Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who
are in Christ
Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me
free from the law of sin and
death.

Yep, that's been my experience in Canada as well. Even the newer machines
that have gone to touchscreen interfaces still have the headphone jack.

My only complaint is that the volume is initially very low. That would
definitely give some people problems.

I don't think there is an ATM that would use Apple Pay out there, but it
is a good idea we should suggest to Apple some how. I don't see why it couldn't
be technically done except for the fact that ATM's need a pin. I do primarily
get my money out of them though when I do need cash.

Hi folks,

The subject line says It all.

Is there any ATM that uses NFC technology?

What's a skimmer?

All the Chase ATM's I've come across have been accessible via
the headphone jack and a real keypad. I try not to go to ATMs outside of
my bank, because of the Charges.

Thanks,

Ari

Hi,

There are still quite a few of the older ATM’s around my area in
Florida that are not accessible. No one bothers with them though anyway
because around here everyone is afraid of skimmers. Skimmers have been a
really big problem in this urban area the last year or two even in
grocery stores. I think I used an ATM once in the last five years. I
either get cash back at the grocery store which will give me up to $50
when I get groceries or I go to the bank which I do about twice a year
when I have a buildup of checks that are about to expire. I know many
people still need cash for various reasons so I am not a typical
individual but I am either fortunate enough to never need cash or
fortunate enough to never need cash. Sometimes I can’t decide either,
