Re: scanning amazon gift cards
Now in the amazon app I am not finding where I can scan the cards I only find where I have to enter the claim code and fill in a captia just like on the website. Fortunately I discovered I can enter a gift claim code when I am checking out and it will use that gift card for some or all of the purchase price. RE: scanning amazon gift cards
With a gift card the barcode can only be either on the one side or the other. I suggest when you are in the correct place in the app to put the gift card on a table, put the phone on top and line it up so the camera lens is approx. in the middle, then try to lift your phone straight up from the card, probably all that is needed is 4 or 6 inches for a credit size card. Hold it still for a moment and if that doesn't do anything repeat with the other side. If you find it easier you could try it the other way around, put the phone on the table with the back camera facing up after opening the Amazon app and going to the right place, then put the gift card on top of the camera and lift it straight up about 4 or 6 inches. I have done this with Apple gift cards and done it both ways successfully. You can of course use Aira or Be My Eyes if you want to first find out where exactly the barcodes are, e.g. which side and where on the card, e.g. top left, middle, bottom centre etc. Put down all cards either with the barcode side down or up as you prefer and then try the above. I know Aira can take pictures with the regular camera app, not sure if they could actually remotely do these barcodes for you and add them to your system. I guess if you had a membership they could log into your computer remotely and do it for you there after writing down all the numbers first, but that certainly wouldn't be possible in a 5-minute or less free call. Re: scanning amazon gift cards
Hi, Donald. I would suggest, if you have access to these services, using Aira or Be My Eyes. This is especially because of the CAPCHA situation you described. Hope this helps. Buying iTunes gift cards
Okay. I wanted to send a $10.00 gift card via email to a friend and found the order screen totally different than the last time I did it. The lowest amount showing was $25.00 but there was an edit field to enter a different amount. I entered 10 and sent the request. I got a note stating the email was invalid which wasn't. So, called Apple Accessibility. Now you have the details but I'm still wondering if the call center is closed? -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. Hi Donald. I'm glad voice dream scanner worked out for you. I have a large collection of vinyl records and am in the process of ripping them to the computer. RE: KNFB Reader and Gift Cards
If KNFB Reader can't read it then I doubt anything else can. You may have to use Be My Eyes or that other app (can't remember the name right now) which connects you with a real person and then show then the gift card via your phone's camera or, if you have friends or family members with iPhones just call them via Facetime and ask them to take a look. I assume you are trying to get the gift card number? iTunes gift cards do have a barcode and can be scanned with the camera, not sure if others do, but that could be an option if the company where the gift card is from offers the option to redeem the card in an app or online using the camera. Re: Reading Gift Cards
When my husband sent me a picture of the gift cards he'd gotten us for a nearby steakhouse, KNFBReader handled the picture pretty well. It didn't castch the amount of the gift card, but it got the name of the place, and that it was a gift card. I think things would go well if you took a very straight picture with KNFBReader. RE: Blind low vision survey - win Samsung health tracker, Audible gift cards, Saks Fifth Avenue handbag and more
I’d be careful with this survey, there are 4 red flags that went up for me: 1. The survey link is a Google shortened link so no way to know where it will take you 2. The promise of the somewhat strange prizes 3. The fact that where he wrote he can be contacted for questions the email address is given as text with the @ symbol and period written out as “at” and “dot” in order to prevent it from being recognized as an email address one can click on. When I translate the email address the way he wrote it into an actual email address, it is philsoatpcs2...@tc.columbia.edu <mailto:philsoatpcs2...@tc.columbia.edu> which sounds suspicious to me. 4. The email address he is posting from is hidden, but when you extract is from the header it is philso1...@gmail.com <mailto:philso1...@gmail.com> so nothing to do with a University or even the email address he is given where he can be contacted. The websites of Columbia University is www.columbia.edu <http://www.columbia.edu> and the one ofBaruch College is www.baruch.cuny.edu <http://www.baruch.cuny.edu> , one would expect he would have an email from one of these domains. Lastly, I googled this college he mentions and it does exist and is listed as one of 10 senior colleges of the City University of New York, but it’s strange he claims to be with Columbia University and City University. Like I said, I’d think twice before doing the survey or even clicking on the link until Cara or Mark say they have checked into this and it’s legit. RE: iTunes gift cards once again
Hi Reggie, Just open the app store, put focus on the “Featured” tab at the bottom left of the screen (where normally the Phone icon is when you are on the home screen), now flick left 3 times and you’ll be on a button called “Send Gift”. Here is what you see on the screen that opens: A “To” button, double tap on that and enter the email address of the person you want to send the gift to. This is a bit of a strange field because double tapping the To button pops up the on-screen keyboard and you can enter the email address, but you can’t actually see it until you are done and press the Return/Enter button on the virtual keyboard. If I entered my own email address, it would then say “To siegh...@live.ca <mailto:siegh...@live.ca> ” instead of just “To”. The second button is “From” and it should already have your name in it. Then is a message field with a 200 character maximum, so you could type something like “Merry Christmas, enjoy this little gift” or whatever. Next you have several values to choose from, there is a $20, $30 and $50 option or an “other” choice where you could type in a custom amount, this field works properly and a numeric keypad pops up where you can enter the amount. If you select one of the amounts that are listed Voiceover will say “Selected” after you double tap on it. Next is a heading called “Send Gift” and underneath a button which says “Today”. If you double tap on this it changes to “Other date” and you can select a future date from a picker, there is a picker for month, day and year at the bottom of the screen and you can flick up with one finger to pick a future day. Since we are in December and you can’t pick a day in the past the month picker cannot be changed unless you first change the year from 2015 to 2016, at that point you can select any month and day in 2016. flick up/down to adjust Once you are done with all that double tap on “Next” Now you can choose a theme, if you touch at the bottom in the middle above the home key you find a page picker. You can flick up and change it, for me it had 7 options, if I touched the middle of the screen after changing it it would tell me a description of the theme, e.g. Purple Background with a green present or “Holiday” or “Winter”. Select you theme and double tap next again at the top right of the screen. Lastly you now have a summary of everything, it shows the To address, the name, your email address, the theme and amount and you can now double tap on the “Buy” button at the top right and your credit card will be charged. Remember two things: 1. You can only send a gift to somebody who uses the same app/iTunes store as you, e.g. if you are in the US you can only send a gift to somebody else in the US who uses the uS app store. I am in Canada and I couldn’t sent you a gift because you are not using the Canadian app/iTunes store. 2. Any gifts you send are charged to the card on your account even if you yourself have a gift card balance. RE: iTunes gift cards once again
Sorry, forgot one thing, after you tap on “Buy”, you have to confirm and tap again “Buy Now” and enter your Apple Id password just like when you buy an app. If you have 2-step verification enabled, you may also have to enter your confirmation code which you can have sent to you by text message or to another iOS device if you have one registered. Re: Discounted iTunes gift cards on eBay today only
Hi Robin, I got an email from eBay informing me of this deal. I have an account with them, and they have my email address. So, like it or not, every day I get an email from them. Mostly, I ignore those things. But this one mention of the iTunes deal right up front. So I went and bought one. Interestingly, I had to use my iPad as I could not get the thing to add to my cart when I tried my iPhone. I've no idea why. RE: gift cards
Hi Lori, Just about every store you can think of sells iTunes gift cards. 7 Eleven and other convenience stores, many supermarkets, many sdrug stores and of course all the big electronics stores like Best Buy as well as department stores like Target, Wallmart and so on. Who just happens to have them on sale is another story and you just have to check around. I just got four $25 gift cards here in Canada for 20% off, so I only paid $80 and that was at Costco. I asked my friends who live near a Costco in Vancouver and who shop there a lot to check if they still have the deal because my staff just gave me a $50 iTunes gift card as a Christmas gift and if I bought another $100 for $80 I could buy the lifetime version of Seeing eye GPS which I believe is $240. I would have then only paid $160 for that in actual money. Of course for $140 I can get two 3-year subscription packages and who knows what is out there in 6 years. But loading up on 20% off iTunes credit is always a good deal as you often see 10% off deals, but the 20% off deals don’t happen too often. Re: gift cards
Hi Sieghard, Thank you. I will have to check into the iTunes gift cards. Once I purchase the iTune gift cards, how do I use them in purchasing the KNFB Reader? I hope that doesn't sound like a stupid question. I never used iTune gift cards to purchase something in the app store before so this will be new to me. Thanks. Re: gift cards
What you're actually looking for is discounted gift cards; the price of KNFB Reader is going to stay the same. Not sure how you hunt around all the big chains for discounted cards, not found them in the UK yet, though not looked very hard either. - Original Message - From: Lori Dent loriand...@ohiohills.com To: viphone@googlegroups.com Sent: Monday, December 22, 2014 4:47 AM Subject: gift cards Hi all, I was just wondering where do I go to find gift cards to purchase? I want to purchase the KNFB Reader. If I can purchase a gift card , thenmaybe I wouldn't have to pay the full price of the KNFB Reader. Has anyone paid full price for their KNFB Reader? Prizmo vs KNFB Reader and how iTunes gift cards can save you $20
Hello List, Reading about Prizmo and KNFB Reader, I thought I point out that for those who are considering KNFB Reader but want to save a bit of money, this weekend would be a good time. I just listened to the Today in iOS Black Friday edition where Rob goes over all sorts of deals you can get starting in a couple of days, and among many others, a lot of the large chain stores like Target, Best Buy, Sam's Club and so on offer iTunes gift cards at discounts of 15 to 20%. This means you can pick up KNFB Reader for $80 instead of $100. Even if you don't need to buy an expensive app, it's always nice to have $25 or $50 of iTunes credit especially if you can get it for 20% less and to use it for something you want down the road. Having said that, if any of the Canadian list members come across a 15% or 20% discount please do post about it. Right now 7 Eleven offers a 10% discount on $50 iTunes gift cards, but I'm hoping to find a 20% deal somewhere. Best Buy Offering Crazy Discounts on iPhone5S/5C, Gift Cards for Old iPhones
Hi all, First, I'm sorry, but this is only Best Buy, so is probably only for the United States. Best Buy is offering insane deals right now: an iPhone5 gets you a $200 gift card, a 4S $150, and a 4 $100. Then you can get a new 5S for $100, or a 5C for $50! When we went today, my sister did this, and she got an additional $15 for the phone charger, plus $35 for renewing her Verizon contract. She got rid of the iPhone4, and walked out with an iPhone5S an Otterbox Defender case, having paid $8! If you're not holding out for the iPhone6 this fall, and you have an upgrade with Verizon or the other one Best Buy supports (Sprint, I think) take this opportunity! It only lasts until Sunday, though. -- Have a great day, Alex Hall mehg...@icloud.com -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. Re: redeeming an iTunes gift cards
No. your gift card will get used up first. And, if you add a second gift card it will only be added to what's left of the first gift card etc. So in my case, I got a 25 dollar gift card so I typed that in. Then I got a second gift card for 50 dollars. Even though I used 2 bucks of it when I added in the second card it just showed 73 dollars. To some it up, any credits you have will be used up first. When there are 0 left and you then buy something, then the credit card will get tagged. HTH PS: sometimes, you can find a 50 dollar card for 40 dollars right there in the Walmart store. That's a really good deal I think. A question about expiration of gift cards; Follow-up: 287304164
Hello Joanne and others, Below is the reply I received from Apple regarding the expiration of iTunes gift cards. My assumption was confirmed, promotional gift cards (those you sometimes can buy at a discount) have an expiry date after which they cannot be redeemed any longer. However, once redeemed which means once the balance of the card has been applied to your iTunes account, that balance stays there until it is used up even if you don't do anything with it for 10 years. In short, if you are given a promotional gift card or buy one, don't let it sit around where it might get lost or expire. Just redeem it and put the amount on you raccount, it's like money in the bank and it's there for you to use it whenever you want. My name is Erick and it's my pleasure to assist you with regard to your concern for today. I understand that you would like to know if redeemed gift cards on your account will expired or only the card that has not been redeemed. I do recognize the urgency and importance of getting this resolved and I will be happy to look into this for you right away. Sieghard, in an effort to assist you I have reached out to an iTunes Store Senior Advisor who has informed me that once the gift cards have been redeemed on your account, they will stay there until they have been completely used. They will not expire even you didn't use them for years. However, on the other part, gift cards that haven't been redeemed yet on any account are the ones who will expired. I hope this information has been helpful. If you have any questions or concerns about anything I have covered in here, please reply directly to this message. I'd love to find out how this works out for you and I look forward to hearing back from you. Thank you for being an Apple customer, and have a nice day! $50 Canadian iTunes Gift cards for $40 at 7 11 - promo ends today
Hello Canadian List Members, I apologize that I didn't post this before, but I only learned about it this morning. 7 11 has a promotion on $50 itunes gift cards which ends today at Midnight and I assume it is Canada wide. I don't know if American 7 11 stores have it. The promotion is 20% off which means you get $10 off a $50 iTunes gift card paying only $40. I have only once come across a better promotion when Safeway had $50 itunes gift cards for $37 about a year and a half ago. I picked up 3 of them, $120 gives me $150 credit which means I can now buy the 3-year subscription for the Seeing eye GPS app and basically get it for $104 instead of $130. And, just for the fun of it, I briefly share how I found out about the promotion. Ever since the Seeing eye app came out I have been checking with Safeway, Shopper's Drug Mart and even asked friends in Vancouver to keep an eye on promotions at Costco or Best buy. This morning I stopped in at Shopper's Drug Mart to get a drink and one of the ladies who work there came up when I was at the till and said Hey, Sieghard, you asked about iTunes gift card promotions last week. I was at 7 11 last night and noticed they had this promo on their $50 cards. I called 7 11 and they confirmed that it was still on but this was the last day. Well, I guess it helps if you look like Brad Pitt when it comes to the ladies remembering who you are! OK, I was just joking, but it does help if you live in a town of 6,000 where you are the only blind guy with a very good looking 90 pound golden retriever/black lab guide dog. Hope maybe somebody will read this in time who is ready to go and grab a deal. Regards, Sieghard -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group. Re: iTunes gift cards different from other countries?
Hi, Yes, you can also do apps. Sent from Brett's iPhone On 04/01/2013, at 2:35 AM, Sieghard Weitzel siegh...@live.ca wrote: Hi Maria, When you send a gift card using the “Send Gift” option on the iPhone it states right there that gift cards can only be redeemed in the country in which they were issued. I assume that is because of exchange rate differences and different prices for apps and media. I guess you could try and set up a new Apple Id using the United States as your country and then redeem it. If you buy music with the gift card you can download it and then go back to your regular Apple Id, since music is DRM free it should be no problem. I don’t think you could do apps since they are tied to a specific Apple Id. Re: Redeeming gift cards with the new iTunes
Very good point, and to be careful as it's like a sandwich, I scratched off the complete thing, number and all once. And be sure it was a sealed one when bought; without that, it is probably used already and shouldn't have been sold. I know some loacal store keepers got sued for doing this to lottery cards. gift cards??
Hi, I have been trying to purchase gift cards this week. I have been toitunes and apple multiple times. Sometimes I get to where you can buy cards but you don't get the choice of buying what you want. ie. they have $50 and I only want $20. I was able to do fine with this until itunes 11 came along, I'm needing some suggestions now from those who are doing it. Thanks in advance. Re: Redeeming gift cards with the new iTunes
I had problems with my iTunes gift card but was successful doing it on the iPhone. The following advice from a recent email helped a lot... “the Redeem button is there on the iPhone in the App Store at the bottom of the screen. He forgot to mention that you have to first select the “Featured” tab which is the one on the far left. I find it easiest that once I select it, I make sure I touch it again, then swipe left and 2 or 3 swipes should put you on the redeem button.” I also discovered that I had typed the number on my computer when my husband read it out loud to me and thus I got a V and B mixed up on the code. Well, good news!!! At least I hope. (smiles) Apple is going to credit my friend's card for the amount within 3 business days. He then is going to go to a store and get an iTunes gift card and send me the number. I was transferred to 3 people, and at first they did not want to change it. Re: Apple store gift cards
I just did a google search and it took me to the page where you buy iTunes gift cards. It says that the cards may be used for the iTunes store, app store, mac app store and iBooks. So apparently they work for everything except the actual Apple store purchases. Below I am pasting a link which takes you to the page under the Apple store which explains about the two different gift cards. I found this by going to apple.com, pressting the store link and pressing the gift cards link. I hope this settles any remaining confusion. http://store.apple.com/us/browse/home/giftcards -- Cheryl May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable to You, Lord, my rock and my Redeemer. It was a birthday/Christmas present, but he sure didn't know anything about Apple products, and I'm still learning. Think I am going to start looking ffor cards in stores. Re: Apple store gift cards
That simply means you have to redeem it by purchasing something through the online Apple Store. You enter the number and pin at checkout. An iTunes gift card is entirely different and is bought through the iTunes Store. Re: Apple store gift cards
Oh! amazing, so thanks for this and sorry for the confusion I must be causing; didn't know they did it that way; seems an almost pointless way, and like I said, to think you can buy themoff the local store now. I mean the supermarket down the road type store! Now if the sender had done that and sent you the gift card number, instead of doing all that online thing! Still, like the man below suggests, you can login to the apple online store then and buy the right thing there, if you can get around the site successfully and it is clear what it is it's selling you. I don't do well with Apple sites, which is why I posed a possible warning. After thinking about it a little more, and noting the Apple number came up a few times, call them, they should be able to fix this. They're digging themselves into a hole by making this unnecessarily complicated. Re: Apple store gift cards
Ok, I'm going to guess that Gift number is the one we want; and though not done this, the pin would be confirmation you got the real card; but for sure Gift number sounds the most useful and promisng. The Redeem2 button as previously described is still going to be the path to use it. Ok, just hcecked in there and iti s actually termed - gift card or download code: So apart from the dimmed Redeem button, that is the one you will press when you have put the number in, all I had was the text field for that code, no input field for a pin. So got to be worth a try. Will be interesting to see if that Prizmo and box idea can scan in the number for you to use off it. There's going to be a rush for Prizmo and boxes at this rate. Gift Cards
Hi, how would I go about adding a gift card to my iTunes account, and when going to purchase an app, how do I get confirmation that credit has been withdrawn from that gift card as opposed to my credit card? Hi, The add a gift card link in the IOS app store is at the very bottom of the featured window I believe.
