Re: HP air laser jet printer

2020-11-06 Thread Joe Orozco
If you look around Amazon, people have found hacks to trick the
printer into bypassing the message you are out of toner. Look under
the user reviews for some of the HP models. It's a common problem. The
workarounds might require a little sighted assistance if you can't
make out the lights on the printer. It's horrible that manufacturers
find creative ways to squeeze people out of money.

Hello Kitty,

I cannot be absolutely certain but I am relatively confident that the printer
in question is not a duplex model.

Funny thing, I have a duplex laser printer in my office and, aside from testing
the feature, I don't think I've ever elected to use it.

Also, the printer in question is just that, a printer. I am not a fan of
models that combine a printer with other tech such as a scanner.

In my office I have printers, Scanners, and faxes, and all of them are stand
alone units. I prefer individually functioning units because they are less
likely to require the use of a touch pad or an LCD display.

Goes to show how different people's needs and expectations are. I would
absolutely never buy any printer any more which doesn't offer automatic duplex
printing.
I often have to print an invoice or other document where after we are done it
goes in the shredder again because we only keep electronic records.
But it's still easier for a sighted person to work of a paper invoice where
they can check off items as they find/unpack them especially if it's a larger
order with many items and in that case being able to automatically print double
sided saves a lot of paper.

Hello Deidra,

You are absolutely correct. Even though, as blind and low vision people, we
have come a long way in terms of technology independence, when it comes to
certain tech, such as inexpensive laser-printer setup, having sighted
assistance, even if only once, can really make a difference.

Just to let you know, I set this up to print off my iPhone as well as my
Windows PC. Setting up on the computer was not a big deal. You have to download
some software which only takes a few minutes. The set up is uncomplicated and
quick. If you follow the instructions step-by-step you will get where you want
to go. No doubt it went quickly because I had sided help.

Here is the post including Mark's description with the link at the end.
I found this old post from Mark Taylor about an HP Laser-jet and thought it
might give you another option.
Original Post:
Subject: Here is a Very Good AirPrint Laser Printer that I am Now Recommending

Hello All,

I purchased the HP LaserJet Pro M15w Wireless Laser Printer (W2G51A) from
Amazon and I absolutely love it.

It has all of the features I require including the ability to insert standard
mailing envelopes into the sheet feeder as a custom slot.

In order to use this printer, as an AirPrint, printer, you must download the
free HP Smart app, once. You use the app to configure the printer for use on
your network. This is to say, the app facilitates the ability to enter your
network password, etc. As I said, you only need to do this once as, once done,
all Apple devices can see the printer on the network and you may print to your
heart's content. The app is 100% VoiceOver accessible.

The printer is the tiniest laser printer I've ever seen. It uses a mini-toner
cartridge so it's perfect as a portable laser printer.

Oh, this is not a color laser.

Even when printing photos, it takes less than 10 seconds for the unit to start
printing. When printing documents, the unit begins printing almost
immediately. Of course, this is my experience, your milage may vary.

>From what I can tell, most of the negative reviews about the unit, on Amazon,
>come from Windows users.

To be clear, you do not need to install any HP software on any of your Apple
devices in order to use the printer, save the HP Smart app, on one device, to
configure the unit. For you more advanced users, the printer has its own web
server so you can log directly into the unit via a web browser, should you wish.

Although the unit ships with a USB cable, for use with Apple devices, it is not
necessary.

Now, in full disclosure, I have not used the printer with a Windows device.
>From what I can tell, the process of configuring the unit is more complicated
>on Windows but I cannot speak to that.

The printer costs approximately $110.00 USD.

As for unpacking the unit, it would probably be best to have a sighted person
handy as un-taping the various parts could be challenging for an inexperienced
user. The only assembly is to unpack the toner cartridge and preparing it for
installation.

There are only 3 hardware buttons on the unit that are flush with the surface
but one can certainly put tape on them to mark their location.
Also, the unit makes a definite sound when plugged into the wall so there can
be no doubt as to when the unit is powered up.

Okay, here is the URL for the printer on Amazon.

2020-11-04 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Deidra,

I am so sorry that your first unit was a dud. I applaud you for hanging in
there and getting a good unit. A lot of people would have moved on to another
model but, as you have discovered, this little printer is well worth the money.

I just unpacked and setup a new unit for a friend, earlier this week.

My original unit, the one upon which I based my recommendation, continues to
work like a champ.

You know, I would have felt absolutely terrible if you had been disappointed.

One thing about this new generation of inexpensive laser printers is the fact
that they are made from extremely cheap parts with very little quality
assurance.

I will definitely have to remember to include such caveats in my next
recommendation (smile).

Hello all,
I wanted to say that the email that Richard forwarded about a laser printer
originally recommended by Mark lead to my purchasing one. It has the smallest
footprint of any LaserJet printer out there I do believe and that was something
I was looking for. And it only prints in black which was also all I was looking
for. The first one got returned because the rollers would not grab the paper,
And according to the HB tech that was somewhere overseas over a bad connection
determined after fussing with it for about an hour that the sensor must’ve been
broken. That printer got returned. Setting up the second one that was sent as a
replacement work just fine. The HP website however is a pain as Is gettingis
getting through to a live person. You have to have a case, and some of the
questions don’t address what’s actually going on with the printer. They may
mention all kinds of different colored lights except the one on your printer
that just so happens to be flashing. I had cited help with this. At any rate
also after I was getting messages saying they said it was complete on both the
iPhone and my PC it then said it could not locate printer and all these sorts
of things. So double messaging. The latter being totally in accurate. When
attempting to print anyway it printed just fine. So now I have a nice little
$108 printer here that works and it’s really all I needed.
Thank you Richard and Mark for the recommendations.

2020-11-04 Thread Richard Turner

HP air laser jet printer

2020-11-04 Thread deidre muccio
Hello all,
I wanted to say that the email that Richard forwarded about a laser printer
originally recommended by Mark lead to my purchasing one.

Deirdre
