HQ Voices on the iPad
Hi, am I correct that there are no HQ voices on the iPad? I have the 4th generation model and don't see the option to make the switch. Thanks for any info. RE: HQ Voices on the iPad
No, you are not correct, actually. My hq works fine on my 4th generation. You need to let the voice download in the background while the device is plugged in, on wifi and locked. Glad to hear I'm wrong. I didn't see the option to use Compact Voices, so I assumed the feature was not available. Re: HQ Voices on the iPad
I think the HQ voice has to be downloaded first before the option shows up. Is this a new device or have you just updated it? The HQ option should show up after it's been on line long enough. Ok, after the device is plugged in what do I do to get the hq voice? Do I go into iTunes or what? What exact steps do I take? Re: My observations on the clarity of the HQ voices on the iPad and iPhone was RE: VoiceOver Compact Voice On/Off
After having tried the hq voice on my IPod 3rd gen and my IPad 1, I had given up on it. I just got an IPhone 4s and am quite pleased with how the HQ voice works on it. Response is snappy, not sluggish. It doesn't cut out or miss syllables or break up in any way as it did on the other devices to greater or lesser degree, especially the IPod. It must be dependent on the processor and/or the amount of ram. Not sure how much ram the 4S has, but I think it is the same as my IPad 1, so perhaps it is just the processor difference. Re: My observations on the clarity of the HQ voices on the iPad and iPhone was RE: VoiceOver Compact Voice On/Off
It has been my experience that the high-quality voices on the iPhone and iPod are similar to a lot of the SAPI voices on a Windows computer. You need more CPU and more memory in order to take advantage of these voices fully. In addition, because they are high-quality voices, they usually do not sound as good at faster rates. This is just my opinion. -- Raul A. Re: My observations on the clarity of the HQ voices on the iPad and iPhone was RE: VoiceOver Compact Voice On/Off
Hello Phil/. The best test would be a little more than what you suggest. First off, it should be the same text as you say. Second it should be demonstrated on an iPhone, iPod Touch, and an iPad. Third, it should be at rate 40 or 50 for both voices, and then at rate 80 for both. I could do the iPhone and iPod Touch part, but since I don't have an iPad, I couldn't do a full comparison. -- Raul A. Gallegos Tip of the day: Never have a heart attack while playing charades.
