Indeed. It was very distracting. Glad to know it was just a setting.

Thanks for that "fix" which is not really a fix but simply a setting which you
adjust to your liking.

When a new version of iOS comes out it is always a good idea to set aside some
time and go through all the items in Voiceover settings to see what might be
new and how changing certain settings make things better for you or not.

Hi Penny,

Go to settings, accessibility, vision/voice over, audio, sounds and haptics, no
item discovered, and turn haptic off.

That should do it.

Hi,
I actually thought this was a new
feature rather than a bug but I could be wrong. Interestingly
however, it doesn't always happen. There seems to be no
discernible pattern to when audio messages give you the
attachment designation and then give you the seemingly new audio
listening screen featuring a play button and a time scrubber
element which I find rather helpful for reviewing such messages.
As I said sometimes it appears and sometimes the audio messages
simply play with a double tap on them and I haven't a clue as to
what governs this. I've also noticed that when either recording
or listening to one of these messages if you have auto lock set
to a timed interval such as 5 minutes in my case whether
recording an audio message or listening it's as if the device
doesn't recognize that you're doing something and it'll lock
itself thus either ending your recording rather unceremoniously
or stopping your playback. It's very strange indeed.
Take good care.

The subject sort of says it. I am curious to hear what major bugs people
are dealing with because I sometimes see statements like "iOS is a mess"
and "I won't upgrade until some of the bugs have been resolved" etc.
I would encourage people also mention what device they use, my current
phone is an iPhone 11. Please furthermore be specific instead of saying
something "I don't like the new Focus feature" since that of course is not
a bug but a new feature and there will always be things maybe one would
wish had stayed as it was.

Also, before you mention the issue where Voiceover doesn't sometimes say
the name of an app in the app switcher when you flick left, try the fix I
read about and posted: go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion and turn of
 Reduce Motion.
If somebody knows of a good reason why Reduce Motion should be on I'd like

Another issue which was mentioned when Applevis released their warning

As I said above, I use an iPhone 11 and this has never happened to me and

Hello Sieghard,

Since you asked, ever since I updated to iPad 15 on my iPad 10.5, VoiceOver
will not use Samantha, Enhanced, unless I manually select it after every single
reboot..

Also, try as I may, I cannot get my iPad Pro to updae to 15.01 either over the
air or via iTunes.

Strangely enough, I can update other devices in my house, including other
iPads, some of which are older models, OTR but not this one.

After extensive troubleshooting I know that the issue is with the install of
iPad 15 but I do not have time to setup the device again.

Now that I think about it, the OTR issue first occured on my iPad Pro with iPad
14.8.

Next is the share sheet, once again no issues whatsoever for me, but apparently
some people say they are having problems.

Lastly, one problem I do come across is that Voiceover mispronounces certain
things, here are two sample phrases which contain the name of the Canadian
province where I live:

The British Columbia government says it's making progress...

British Columbia Buy and Sell

It's almost like Voiceover is saying "The B A R British Columbia", difficult to
exactly make it out and of course if you go word by word it says each word
correctly.
I should mention that I use the North American SIRI female voice and also have
the SIRI male voice installed, I haven't installed Samantha to test this, but
it was not pronounced like this in iOS 14 where I used the same voices.

If you turn the device off and back on again,it will fix that problem. That’s
what worked for me and two others who was experiencing that issue.

My biggest irritation right now is that VoiceOver insists on saying "comma"
before each letter you delete even though there is no comma anywhere in the
text. Almost as irritating to me as the bloody woodpecker noise...

But, your issue with British Columbia must be the strangest pronunciation screw
up yet.
If you write the word British in other contexts, it says it correctly.
British comedy, British food, British accent.

Perhaps Apple has an issue with the number of bars in BC. Ha, ha.

I assume you have reported that to Apple.

But overall, iOS 15 is quite good, just new wrinkles and lots of new settings
to sort out.

Have you reviewed the settings?

Many settings have changed or been added.

I never had a setup like you so I don’t know that it would have changed in such
a minor update as 15.0.1.

Speaking of probable bugs… before on Ios14, I’d have sounds assigned to links,
and to the “Actions Available” wihtin the rotor. Now with iOS15, though I’m
still running 15.0), the sounds don’t seem to play as before! Thus having to
revert back to Voiceover speaking the word “Link” or “Actions Available”. Am I

My biggest irritation right now is that VoiceOver insists on saying "comma"
before each letter you delete even though there is no comma anywhere in the
text. Almost as irritating to me as the bloody woodpecker noise...

But, your issue with British Columbia must be the strangest pronunciation screw

Am I

Yes, the volume fluctuations with Bluetooth speakers existed prior to iOS 15
and it's interesting with the share sheet since just as with the Wallet app I
experience absolutely 0 issues and all works just as it did in iOS 14.

That share sheet issue is a thing. Sometimes it just says activity on the item
instead of telling you messages or mail or what ever. It can take a couple
times to get it to show properly. Next annoying issue is the one when you have
a bluetooth device connected like a speaker. It pumps voice over volume way
high on the phone if that's where you have your audio set to go. That's been a
bug for a while now though.

Obviously, one size does not fit all. Many of us did in fact find annoying
bugs in 15. That annoying haptic on no items discovered was terrible, and my
hey Siri doesn't work on the locked phone, which isn't a biggy, but not a
problem before. And, all the phrases removed from hey Siri might be a big
problem to people with typing issues. Please stop minimizing the problems of
some just because they don't affect you.

The subject sort of says it. I am curious to hear what major bugs people are
dealing with because I sometimes see statements like "iOS is a mess" and "I
won't upgrade until some of the bugs have been resolved" etc.
I would encourage people also mention what device they use, my current phone is
an iPhone 11. Please furthermore be specific instead of saying something "I
don't like the new Focus feature" since that of course is not a bug but a new
feature and there will always be things maybe one would wish had stayed as it
was.

Also, before you mention the issue where Voiceover doesn't sometimes say the
name of an app in the app switcher when you flick left, try the fix I read
about and posted: go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion and turn of Reduce
Motion.
If somebody knows of a good reason why Reduce Motion should be on I'd like to
hear it and while I don't necessarily disagree that Voiceover should read the
app names even with this turned on, turning it off is a fix/work-around for now
especially if it doesn't have any other consequences.

Another issue which was mentioned when Applevis released their warning prior to
the iOS 15 release about the bugs they experienced or heard about is the one
where the Wallet app crashes when you flick through your cards/passes. I am
very curious to hear how many people have this problem. As I said above, I use
an iPhone 11 and this has never happened to me and I tried it also by turning
on Voiceover on my wife's iPhone 11 Pro and it also works fine.

Re: I find iOS 15 to be one of the least buggy upgrades in a long time, what are the more significant bugs you still experience?

2021-10-02 Thread Joshua Hendrickson
Hi to all. I updated my iPhone to 15.01 or whatever the newest update
is called. It was kind of a dumb reason, but I couldn't delete a
couple of Siri voices with 14.8 so I had no choice. I personally
can't see any improvement between 15.0 and the newest update, but this
is just my opinion. If you are looking through your voice over voices
in Siri, and find South Africa, a lot of the voice over voices
completely can't say South Africa at all. The word is a jumbled mess.
I haven't experienced the delete issue that Richard talked about. I
did notice, that Siri doesn't work that well if my iPhone is locked.
Also, don't try and download any new Siri voices at the present time.
It won't work. I was messing with my iPhone all day yesterday and
talking with apple accessibility. I finally got a very nice lady that
actually knew what the heck was going on, and she told me, it wasn't
my iPhone, but apples servers. Like I said at the beginning of this
message, I wouldn't have updated to 15, then the newer version if it
hadn't been for me wanting to delete some Siri voices.

I have an iPhone 7. From what I can tell, there’s not much benefit for
those with 6s and 7 iPhones. I am used to waiting until November or
December to upgrade so major problems are fixed. Others can have the
grief, particularly when I am not getting big changes with an older
device.

Interesting, I have not experienced that on this 13 Pro.
That would be irritating for sure.

That share sheet issue is a thing. Sometimes it just says activity on
the item instead of telling you messages or mail or what ever. It can
take a couple times to get it to show properly. Next annoying issue is
the one when you have a bluetooth device connected like a speaker. It
pumps voice over volume way high on the phone if that's where you have
your audio set to go. That's been a bug for a while now though.

British comedy, British food, British accent.

Perhaps Apple has an issue with the number of bars in BC. Ha, ha.

I assume you have reported that to Apple.

Sorry, I realize I don’t do the same things on my phone that someone

having that I wasn’t seeing myself. I wish I’d taken the time to state
that in my post.

I remember the horrible bugs I faced with an earlier version of IOS
where I basically had to restart my phone every time I hung up on a
phone call or restart VoiceOver every time I replied to an email
message, and how frustrating it was to have people dismiss those
issues because they weren’t seeing it themselves. I ended up giving
Android a try because those bugs were so frustrating and it took six
months to get one fixed and two years before the other was addressed.

That being said, I do think people need to look at the bugs in a new
version of IOS and how they use their phone to see how much they’ll be
impacted by those bugs. They’ll also need to weigh this against the
new features they may also be able to take advantage of in a new

annoying bugs in 15.  That annoying haptic on no items discovered was

Sorry, I realize I don't do the same things on my phone that someone else does,
so I never meant to minimize the issues anyone else was having that I wasn't
seeing myself. I wish I'd taken the time to state that in my post.

I remember the horrible bugs I faced with an earlier version of IOS where I
basically had to restart my phone every time I hung up on a phone call or
restart VoiceOver every time I replied to an email message, and how frustrating
it was to have people dismiss those issues because they weren't seeing it
themselves. I ended up giving Android a try because those bugs were so
frustrating and it took six months to get one fixed and two years before the
other was addressed.

That being said, I do think people need to look at the bugs in a new version of
IOS and how they use their phone to see how much they'll be impacted by those
bugs. They'll also need to weigh this against the new features they may also be
able to take advantage of in a new version of IOS.

It's almost like Voiceover is saying "The B A R British Columbia", difficult to
exactly make it out and of course if you go word by word it says each word
correctly.
I should mention that I use the North American SIRI female voice and also have

it was not pronounced like this in iOS 14 where I used the same voices.

Maria, try this with Hay Siri. Ask Siri a question. Then ask her what you want.
On the second try, Siri has worked for me on Hay Siri in more than one
instance.

I just downloaded 15.1, and like with 15, when it was ready, Bluetooth was on.
I had my hearing aids on, so I knew right away. I did not have it on, when I
downloaded and installed either update, and I prefer that it not happen. I did
check things in settings that were changed with some recent updates, but
thankfully, I did not find any setting tampering other than Bluetooth. If
someone did not have hearing aids, it could be days before they could realize
this.

In one update, it took me a while to figure out what had happened. AWhenever I
was out of the house, I couldn't get Siri to do anything, said I was off the
Net. Finally I checked in Settings, and I was off the Net, got back on, and all
was well. I think that is an unnecessary problem and am thankful it happened to
me now rather then when I was first using an iPhone.

I find iOS 15 to be one of the least buggy upgrades in a long time, what are the more significant bugs you still experience?

2021-10-02 Thread Sieghard Weitzel

Best regards,
Sieghard
