The main issue I experience right now is that particularly in the Weather Office app which I use here in Canada, Voiceover sometimes goes silent as if you were to do a 3-finger double tap, i.e. you still hear the clicks and tones when you swipe, but there is no speech. I then have to turn Voiceover off and back on with a triple press of the side button. Apart from that everything is actually amazingly stable and I have a feeling this will be a decent initial release. In fact, the issue where if you use a Siri voice for Voiceover you sometimes get this little hickup where it seems Voiceover restarts and focus goes to the top of the screen seems to be gone. Yes, the first public beta is in fact developer beta 3 so typically at least 5 more and often 6 means in total there will be at least 8 or 9 beta releases. There will be a new beta release at most every 2 weeks, sometimes even weekly. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Dennis Long Sent: Sunday, July 16, 2023 4:24 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: IOS 17, is it worth it? You can, but it's not quite so deasy when you upgrade to a new major software release. If you don't have a backup from iOS 16, but you have one from iOS 17 then downgrading means you can't restore from the iOS 17 backup. You also have to use a computer to downgrade. -Original Message- From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of lenron brown Sent: Sunday, July 16, 2023 9:54 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: Re: IOS 17, is it worth it? One thing you have to remember is that if you put iOS 17 public beta or any early public beta on your primary phone that you have to be willing to expect problems. This could be small stuff, but it could also mean that certain apps you use crash and are unusable until the developer updates them or something in iOS 17 is changed. It May mean more battery drain and this is certainly something I have read about in connection with iOS 17. Another issue some people seem to experience is that the Messages app is very sluggish. Also, ifyou do go ahead you should be willing and able to send feedback to Apple when you run into an issue so they can look into it and if you feel it concerns a particular app you should also contact the developer of the app to let them know. One thing I heard about for Voiceover users is that drag and drop currently does not work; this seems to have been fine in the first developer betas and may possibly have only been introduced in this first public beta release although once again, it may not be an issue for all users. You can’t go back isn’t entirely true. It is a bit of a pain. It can be done but it isn’t as simple as resetting your phone. From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Peter Logan Sent: Friday, July 14, 2023 1:48 PM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: IOS 17, is it worth it? To expound upon this some, the drag and drop issue still exists with the 3rd. developer beta. Also there are some things with Siri cutting off and not completing things. I’ve also had issues with alarms and such being silent even though volume is up and the mute switch is o not on. Also, I agree .. that as with most of the betas the battery life is poor. Re: IOS 17, is it worth it?
Sieghard, I appreciate your high moral standing and certainly you may consider to switch from Apple devices if you don’t like that. Apple is still known for Mac vs PC guy campaign that must be extremely dodgy by your standards, as it went much further in being nasty to competitors, comparing to that I only quote facts. Just like in the previous thread I haven’t said a single thing on my app until someone started to either talk dirty on me or to promote another app with false facts. On the other hand it is great if it works on your device. It doesn’t on mine. And just to say that I still think that this is helpful information for someone who wants to use the beta. And your opinion on me and my campaign wasn’t. Let’s try to stick to the topic if that is possible. RE: IOS 17, is it worth it?
I would definitely move up to 17 when it comes out, and I'd always say IOS updates are worth the upgrade, including for VO users. As Sieghard says, whether you want to try a beta or not is more dependent on whether you want to participate in the beta process than getting access to any new features. In other words, I don't think you should join a beta just to get fixes or new features. You should only do it if you want to be part of the testing process for these features. -- Christopher (AKA CJ) =>÷ Chaltain at Outlook, USA From: viphone@googlegroups.com On Behalf Of Sieghard Weitzel Sent: Friday, July 14, 2023 9:55 AM To: viphone@googlegroups.com Subject: RE: IOS 17, is it worth it? Hi all, I read an article by Kim Komando about the public beta being out now. She obviously didn't talk about any accessibility aspects of 17. I am just wondering if 17 is worth the upgrade or not for VO users. I haven't used betas in IOS before but was kind of toying with the idea this go round. Have any of you tried it yet? Is there anything in 17 worth our serious consideration? Thanks. -- Dan Beaver (KA4DAN) USA -- The following information is important for all members of the V iPhone list. Re: IOS 17, is it worth it?
I'll still make sure my iPhone is as up to date as possible. I've got a 13 pro max, and when 17 comes out, I'll up date it.
