That's a matter of opinion. I didn't buy the book or CD, but I got along just fine coming from windows to the mac. I also know people who did buy it, and say they learned more on their own. So hey, to each their own. 75 bucks is a little steep for a book that most people who are not scared to try new things, can learn on their own. Re: Jumping in with using a Mac
Hello all. Sieghard is actually correct. When I posted my message I meant for it to only go to the Mac list. I have been reading messages on the iPhone and had viPhone on the brain. After I saw that a little bit ago I felt really bad because coming from a moderator I wouldn't have wanted to see someone else do this either. So with a hand slapping on myself, let's bring this topic to a close and discuss the Mac on the Mac list. On a side note I do appreciate the congratulations and the various suggestions on how to best proceed. However it does belong on the Mac list. --- Sent from Raul's iPhone - (832) 554-7285. Re: Jumping in with using a Mac
I agree with Eric. The key in learning very different things is in understanding concepts. One can take the concept of time and learn for example stop watches, calendars, time zones, etc. To some extent The concept of an operating system is to use it as a springboard to accomplishing various tasks. For example, once you understand the concept of cut, copy, paste, and or editing in a word processor, it doesn't matter whether one is using MS word or WordPad. Again, there are many ways to get from Washington to Florida including biking, bus, train, car, plane, etc. One need only understand and work with what they have to accomplish their goal. Then again, the person who insists on walking because its easy and free will have lots of unnecessary difficulties IE: some solutions are better than others. I will also add that for many of us, as blind individuals we've had to think out of the box for many years, so developing techniques for accomplishing tasks will not be all that much of a stretch. In other words, to some extent, many of us who have applied him or herself are probably much more creative than the average sighted person--in my opinion of course. Re: Jumping in with using a Mac
Raul, enjoy your new computer adventure. Your post brings up a large question: If one were to decide to start using a Mac, how would one go about learning it? In the case of the iPhone, it seems to me the process is easy: get an iPhone, read the VoiceOver documentation on the Apple site, read Anna Dresner's book, talk to fellow users, and start tapping. How would one approach the Mac? What kinds of documentation are useful, and where does one find this documentation? Which Mac does one start with? Craig On 4/6/13, Raul A. Re: Jumping in with using a Mac
Wow Raul, that's awesome news! You'll love using the Mac. Yeah, there is a bit of a learning curve but that's to be expected no matter what you use. And once you're experienced enough, you can install Windows on it like I have with mine and have the best of both worlds with one computer. -- Shawn Sent from my White MacBook using SamNet -- You received this message because you are subscribed to the VIPhone Google Group.
