case you are incapacitated due to illness or an accident or, hopefully not, if
you pass away which often leaves those left behind scrambling especially if

Hi Richard,

Not in the traditional sense, where you are sent a code by text message or use
a 2 factor app.

But your password database is first behind a master encrypted password. Then
you can also turn on a second layer of protection with a pin.

It also has other security precautions, like lock after so many seconds without
action, and delete database if pin is entered incorrectly a number of times
that you choose.

I liked it because of its simple interface, its total accessibility, and since
it will work both on ios as well as windows.

I did try 1Password, but thought it was just more complicated than I wanted.

RE: Password manager

2022-06-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I know this doesn’t get mentioned as often as others, but I have been using
Roboform for probably over 15 years now and quite like it. It works well on the
computer and the iOS app is also accessible, a few things you have to figure
out and get used to and it’s more that the labelling could be improved a bit,
but it works just fine.
I use it of course for passwords, but also have dozens and dozens of so-called
SafeNotes which are password protected notes and I have yet to find a length
limit for them. If I am on a website with a user name and password field I can
just press Alt + Z and it will auto fill these fields as long as there is a
matching passcard for that website. You can also bring up the system tray,
press “R” for the Roboform system tray icon, press enter and then go to Logins
or SafeNotes and if you have a login for somewhere and select it from the list
it will open that website, fill the user name and password field and log you
in. There are a few exceptions where this may not work, but that is because the
web developer has somehow prevented it.

Hi Richard,

As Chris said in his message, I don’t believe KeePass supports 2-factor
authentication. I’ve never had an issue with it being compromised and even
though I would not use it on Dropbox for a long time, I finally decided it was
safe after using my iPhone more and more and needing a way to sync between my
computer and my iPhone where my passwords were concerned.

I wrote a tutorial on KeePass a couple of years ago and I think you might still
find some useful information in it. I’m still running the same version of
KeePass discussed in the tutorial on my Windows 10 computer. I’ll paste the
tutorial following my signature. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Alan

I'm writing a tutorial on how to use the basic features of the KeePass program
to manage your passwords with your computer. I'm running Windows 7 with Fusion
2019 and using KeePass version 2.44, the most recent downloadable version, for
purposes of this discussion. I will include navigable headings where
appropriate and since I'm sending this post in html format, these headings
should be maintained. This document was completed on February 15, 2020.

Introduction

KeePass is an open source program available for free for maintaining a user's
passwords. This discussion will be about running KeePass on a Windows computer
but my understanding is that it will also run on Linux and Mac OS X. Note the
spelling of the program which appears to be a combination of the words keep and
an abbreviation of password and don't make the mistake I did thinking it's
spelled like a key to unlock something. KeePass is basically a small database
management system where the underlying records are your passwords. A database
is really just a table or spreadsheet of information where each row represents
a record and each column represents a field of data for that record. For
password records, the main fields in KeePass are Title, User Name, and Password
where Title is the item with the password such as NLS BARD account. Be aware
that KeePass has two main versions and various build iterations of each,
version 1.x and version 2.x. I recommend you use version 2.x as I believe it
contains more accessibility and this discussion will be about it.

KeePass Website

The main KeePass website can be found here:

 <https://keepass.info/> https://keepass.info/

The site contains a lot of helpful information and I'd recommend you explore it
to gather what you need. I'd suggest you start by pressing Insert + F7 to
generate a list of links and arrow through them to find your interests most
quickly. You can go to the Downloads link from this list or use the following
link to download the KeePass program:

 <https://keepass.info/download.html> https://keepass.info/download.html

KeePass has both fully installable and portable versions. As you arrow through
the available downloads, you can pick whether you want the installer which
will be an exe file or the Portable version which will be a zip file. As you
know, Portable versions don't add anything to your registry and can be copied
to a flash drive for portability after being unzipped.

Running KeePass the first time

I installed the fully installable version of KeePass a few years back when I
started using it and I have no intention of uninstalling it for purposes of
this overview. Be aware of that so if you experience something different from
my explanation, the reason might relate to this. I will attempt to mirror a new
installation by creating a new KeePass database file that will hopefully yield
similar results to those who are installing it for the first time.

When I pressed Ctrl + n to create an new KeePass database file, I was prompted
to save it with the name Database.kdbx in the same folder of my existing
KeePass database. First time users of the program will probably get different
results but I'd recommend that if you're a Dropbox user, that you save your
KeePass database kdbx file in your Dropbox folder. This will make syncing it
with a mobile device discussed later much easier. You should make note of this
file name in order to make it easier to find in the future. After providing the
database filename and location, you are in a dialog box to create your
composite master key which is your master password to access your KeePass
database. Choose a password that isn't easily cracked but that you can easily
remember. This will be the only password you have to remember going forward
because all the others will be

2022-05-31 Thread Alan Lemly
nfortunately is no longer available
and the second is KeePass Touch which is free with ads or is 99 cents without
ads. KeePass Touch is much better in my opinion because it can be synced with
the same kdbx database used by your computer using Dropbox. With KeePass Touch,
when you sign into the app after turning on Touch ID, you have access to all
your passwords without providing the master password manually. When you
navigate to your password field, you can double tap on the screen to copy it to
the clipboard for easy pasting to another app. KeePass Touch also has a search
feature at the top of its main screen for locating specific entries by keyword.
iOS has other apps that work with KeePass databases but I'm unfamiliar with
their accessibility or cost. I suggest you search the App Store for KeePass and
see what comes up if KeePass Touch doesn't interest you.

Android

I have only very limited experience with Android but I did install the KeePass
Droid app which was free on a Moto X4 phone. I did nothing more than install
the app so can't offer any instructions on its use.

Re: Password manager

2022-05-31 Thread Chris Chaffin

Password manager

2022-05-31 Thread jkt4960
Good morning,

What's an accessible password manager for both PC and IOS. I have my 3rd gen
iPhone SE with me always but any real computer work I do is with my PC and
JAWS. My current password system is getting pretty ugly so I need to find a
solution.

Thanks for your help,

Joe

RE: Looking for a password manager

2020-06-25 Thread Alan Lemly
Teresa,

You can download KeePass for your computer from this website:

https://keepass.info/download.html

Following my signature, I'm pasting an overview I wrote a few months ago about
using KeePass.

Alan Lemly

I'm writing an overview of how to use the basic features of the KeePass program
to manage your passwords with your computer.

The main KeePass website can be found here:

  https://keepass.info/

The site contains a lot of helpful information and I'd recommend you explore it
to gather what you need. I'd suggest you start by pressing Insert + F7 to
generate a list of links and arrow through them to find your interests most
quickly. You can go to the Downloads link from this list or use the following
link to download the KeePass program:

  https://keepass.info/download.html

After providing the
database filename and location, you are in a dialog box to create your
composite master key which is your master password to access your KeePass
database. Choose a password that isn't easily cracked but that you can easily
remember. This will be the only password you have to remember going forward
because all the others will be housed in KeePass to recall as needed. Type in
your master password and tab once where you'll land on a checkbox that is
checked to hide the password value using asterisks. Tab again to reenter your
master password. Tab once which takes you to a Show expert options checkbox
which you should leave unchecked. Tab again which takes you to a Help button
which you can tab past to the ok button which you should execute. You will be
taken to a create new password database dialog box which is multi tabbed with
tabs for General, Security, Compression, Recycle Bin, and Advanced. Each of
these tabs contain settings for the password database but accept for the
General tab discussed below, the defaults are fine and can be ignored. You will
be located on the General tab when you first enter this dialog in the database
name text box. I would recommend leaving this text box blank and

I like the idea of being able to sink this for PC and iPhone.
How do you get KeePass on your PC?
Thanks, Teresa☺

Re: Looking for a password manager

2020-06-25 Thread Alan Lemly
Maria,

You should stay with KeePass on your Windows computer and get KeePass Touch for
your iOS device. KeePass Touch is still in the App Store and only costs 99
cents for no advertising. It works great and if you have Dropbox, you can keep
your KeePass database there which allows your database to be synced between
your computer and iDevice.

1Password is good on the iPhone, and they do have a 1Password app for
the PC but I think there is a subscription cost involved if you use it
on multiple platforms. I have used the 1Password iOS app for several
years and have found it very useful and accessible. The free version
will let you track log-ins, secure notes, identities, and credit cars.
There is a $10 in-app purchase which lets you enter other categories,
like wireless router information, specific passwords, driver's
license/state ID information, and other things. Anytime I create or
update a password, I will go into 1Password and enter that
information.

RE: Password Manager

2017-05-15 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I have been a Roboform user for probably 15 years, maybe even longer. I don’t
have any Android devices, but it does work well with both Windows and iOS, I
can do passwords, bookmarks (not protected with a password) and either password
protected or not passprotected SafeNotes. Roboform also has a Contacts option,
but I don’t use it, you can enter all your personal info such as credit cards,
bank accounts Social Insurance Number etc. if you wish and it can also
auto-generate passwords.
The newest version has some sort of feature built in where you can specify a
person to have access in case you die and also to share passwords via email
with somebody else, but I haven’t tried this yet.
And yes, it does have 2-factor authentication.

Sieghard

Hello,

I am looking for a good password manager that works cross-platform, preferably
one with some sort of an online option... This takes away a small amount of
security, however is more convenient. I do not wish to sync databases with
Google Drive. Also, it should be accessible on multiple platforms such as
Windows, Android, Mac OS, and iOS. It should also have 2fa as an option. I have
been using Lastpass, however it has seen some accessibility regressions in
Firefox recently. Any thoughts? Even if you aren't sure if one would meet my
needs, what do you use as a password manager, or are you reliant on iOS
keychain?

Thanks.

RE: Password Manager

2017-05-15 Thread Alan Lemly
I like KeePass for managing my passwords on my Windows 7 computer and its
companion Mini KeePass on my iPhone 7. That's spelled k e e p a s s. It's not
as automated as others since you have to manually share the passwords file
between your computer and your iPhone. I do this with iTunes but you can also
do it with Dropbox. I'm just not a fan of placing my password files in the
cloud even if they are encrypted.

The below How-To-Geek article isn't from an accessibility standpoint but it has
some good comparison information on password managers:

https://www.howtogeek.com/240255/password-managers-compared-lastpass-vs-keepass-vs-dashlane-vs-1password/

Good luck.

Windows, Android, Mac OS, and iOS. It should also have 2fa as an option. I have
been using Lastpass, however it has seen some accessibility regressions in
Firefox recently. Any thoughts? Even if you aren't sure if one would meet my
needs, what do you use as a password manager, or are you reliant on iOS
keychain?

Thanks.

Password Manager

2017-05-15 Thread Nimer Jaber
Hello,

I am looking for a good password manager that works cross-platform,
preferably one with some sort of an online option... This takes away a
small amount of security, however is more convenient. I do not wish to sync
databases with Google Drive. Also, it should be accessible on multiple
platforms such as Windows, Android, Mac OS, and iOS. It should also have
2fa as an option. I have been using Lastpass, however it has seen some

I use 1Password and it works well. Though there are paid subscriptions and a
$10 in-app purchase, I am still using the free version of 1Password. It does
all that I need. It is very accessible with Voiceover. If you have a Touch ID
capable device, you can also use your Touch ID to unlock the app.

Good luck,

If you click Forgot my Password, you will next be asked to enter your
Apple ID which would be theemail you used when you signed up and you will
then be asked to click next to reset your password.
After you click Next, you have the following 2 choices:

 Reset your password
You can change or reset the password for your Apple ID account by providing
 some information.
 Select your authentication method.

Email authentication: To access your information, we will send an email to
the address(es) on file for you.
Answer security questions: To access your information, you will need to
answer the security question(s) provided when you originally created your
 Apple ID.

The 2 choices, email authentication and answer security questions are radio
buttons, select the one you want and click Next.
Since you said you didn't get an email I suggest you try the second method,
of course you would have to remember the answers you provided.
I think it's likely that maybe you used a different email, but only you
would know that (or not) *smile*.

If this doesn't work you might want to call Apple and see if they can help
you. They might be able to reset it by asking you about the credit card on
file for verification or something like that, but that's just a guess.
If you don't know your security questions and are able to gain access in a
different way I highly recommend you change the security questions and
answers to something you can remember. You can just go to the above link
once you are able to log in and do that.
There also is a place where you can specify an alternative email address,
maybe you did that and the password reset email was sent to that?

I think nowadays with so many passwords, security questions and answers and
so on there is great value in good password programs. I personally use
Roboform Everywhere. It costs me $20 a year (I think it's $75 or something
like that if you prepay it for 5 years) and this stores my passwords on the
secure Roboform server. Here you have a user name (not your email, but one
you choose) and a password to log in and you also have a Master Password
which you use to unlock passcards or SafeNotes in the Roboform application
on the PC or in the app on the iPhone.
The app is very accessible, but you can't automatically copy a password to
the clipboard, but you can show/reveal the password once you put in your
Master Password and then just use the new 3-finger quadruple tap to copy it
 after Voiceover reads it.
The app also has its own browser and you can auto login from the app this
 way.
I also very much like and heavily use the SafeNotes feature where I have
dozens of Notes with answers to security questions, log-in information,
credit card numbers and so on. If you just want to write down anything
that's not sensitive information you can just uncheck the Protected box
and the note will be stored without the need for the Master Password.
Of course all my Passcards and SafeNotes and Bookmarks (another feature) do
sync between all my computers and the iPhone.
If I install a new computer I just download the program, enter my
credentials during the installation and 30 seconds later all my information
 is there.

I know there are other such programs but I have been using Roboform for many
years and in this case for me it's one of those why fix it if it ain't
 broke things.

 Regards,
 Sieghard

Of course all my Passcards and SafeNotes and Bookmarks (another feature) do
sync between all my computers and the iPhone.
If I install a new computer I just download the program, enter my
credentials during the installation and 30 seconds later all my information
is there.

I know there are other such programs but I have been using Roboform for many
years and in this case for me it's one of those why fix it if it ain't
broke things.

Sieghard

Did you check your Junkmail folder? The password reset email might be in

Hi, I forgot my Apple ID password, what can I do about it? I tried to put
in
my Apple ID in the forgot password link, and I chose to have the system
email me the reset instructions, but I haven't gotten them yet
