RE: Performing tasks on iPhone, while taking part in a phone call.

2021-05-03 Thread Christopher Chaltain
This happens on my PC when using Teams. I assume that Teams is trying to keep
sound from the meeting from going back out over the air. This is nice since I
don't have to worry about my screen reader coming through when I'm on a call
through Teams, but my voice does break up if I'm talking when my screen reader
kicks in. this happens whether I have head phones on or not. I'm not sure if
Apple is trying to do the same thing to keep voiceOver from bleeding over onto
a call.

These days, I only do calls on earbuds. I regularly do other things when on
hold with a company. I've found that VoiceOver talks over the person and
hearing what they are saying and VoiceOver is difficult for me. Perhaps this is
because I have a hearing loss, but VoiceOver to me is very loud when it speaks
over top of the other caller. When using Facetime, there is a lot better
balance when listening to VO and the other person.

Hi, Carolyn. You can do this, but it is tricky. I usually use a headset as
has been suggested. I also try to adjust the volume of voice over so there's a
way to hear both the speech and the caller. Sometimes it helps to use a male
voice if speaking to a female and vice versa. You should be able to do all of
the things you listed while on a phone call. I've gotten texts before, and
depending on the volume, the Voice over usually drowns out the person's
speaking. Like I said, it does take some practice.

RE: Performing tasks on iPhone, while taking part in a phone call.

2021-05-01 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
As long as I am somewhere where having the call on speakerphone doesn't bother
anybody it is not difficult to just take the phone away from your ear which
causes the call to go to speakerphone (as long as you haven't disabled this
feature). Then just swipe up from the bottom just like you would when you want
to go from any app back to the home page, you can then open the Messages app or
Contacts or any other app and do whatever you want to do while you are talking
to the other person on speakerphone. I have never had anybody ask me what I am
doing which means the microphone does not seem to pick up Voiceover, but if you
find it distracting to have both the caller and Voiceover on speaker you can of
course use a headset except then you have both the caller and Voiceover on the
headset which to me is no different than having both on the external speaker.

RE: Performing tasks on iPhone, while taking part in a phone call.

2021-04-30 Thread Carolyn
The reason for wanting this is I have a friend with a stage 4 brain tumor, and
she keeps calling me for our friends' numbers. Now that I know I can go into
Contacts, that will be good. Right now, she has a pretty hale and hearty voice,
only she talks so fast and has such a strong Massachusetts accent that we all
have a hard time understanding her. Anyway, that will make it easier for her,
me not having to call her back. Thanks for the help, guys.

RE: Performing tasks on iPhone, while taking part in a phone call.

2021-04-30 Thread Carolyn
I'm not big about call on speaker, but I am big on earbuds. I have three pair
of Apple ones - in computer desk, by living room chair, and in purse. I'm way
more likely to leave home without my American Express card than my earbuds.

Probably most of you don't remember the AMEX commercial - don't leave home
without it!

You will not be able to dictate a text, but you can type one and of course read.
If you look up a contact, and you want to text it to the person, you can simply
select share contact and then message and select the person you are talking to.
If you just want to give them the phone number, you would have to just tell
them unless you want to go through the steps to copy just the number and then
create a text and send it that way.

It is too distracting to me to have the call on speaker while doing this.

BTW, you cannot have the phone near your ear while you do this as the screen is
not going to react unless you pull the phone away from your head.
