Question, VO gestures vs. regular gestures.

2015-10-10 Thread Jenifer Barr
Hi all.
So, I'm trying to convince an ap developer that vo gestures are
different from regular gestures. I'm trying to tell them that double
tapping on a button doesn't work with VO. They're telling me that the
correct gesture is a single tap, not a double tap. So, is a single
tap a regular gesture that a sighted person would use to activate a
button or something?
Thanks for any help you can give. The developer is the creator of the
"next episode" ap. The button is "favorites" wich would allow you to
add a show to your "watched" or "notify" list.

Besides having the developer turn on voice over, he might also invoke the help
screen with a four finger double tap to see what each gesture does including
executing an icon.
Also, Applevis has a fairly recent podcast tutorial for developers so they can
better understand our needs when developing software.

if the app developer was truly interested, they could turn VoiceOver on and
see, for themselves, what the differences are. And yes, there are differences.

You might impress upon the developer that with VoiceOver, we use a two-step

the screen which is acted on the button with focus.

Direct the developer to the link Richard provided. iOS already has the hooks in

Yes, if you are not using VoiceOver, you just tap once to activate a button.
With VoiceOver, the single tap merely selects it so the second tap is required
to activate the button.

Re: Question, VO gestures vs. regular gestures.

2015-10-10 Thread Aleeha Dudley
Yes, these things are very different. What I would do would be to explain to
the developer that VoiceOver, when it is enabled, modifies the gestures one
would normally use on the iPhone. For example, you would normally just tap one
on something to activate it. With VO enabled, this gesture is accomplished with
a double tap. A tap and hold for a sighted person is the same as a double tap
and hold with VO. Scrolling for a sighted person is done with one finger. With
VO, it is done with three fingers.
I hope this helps.

Re: Question, VO gestures vs. regular gestures.

2015-10-10 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Yes that's right: for sighted people, a single tap activates/opens
while for the us the blind with VO, we need a double-tap.

Re: Question, VO gestures vs. regular gestures.

2015-10-10 Thread Rajmund
Hello,
That's right. When you turn VO off, you don't double tap,, at all, and no beeps
can be heard,, when you move through icons, either. The best thing is turn on
VO, and give them the device, so that they can try it.

Re: Question, VO gestures vs. regular gestures.

2015-10-10 Thread David Justice

if the app developer was truly interested, they could turn VoiceOver on and
see, for themselves, what the differences are. And yes, there are differences.
