Re: Question about Voice Dream Reader capacity
Shannon, When your phone is connected to iTunes on your computer, under the file transfer area, voice Dream Reader does have a file that you can save to your computer. I have never saved this file and then reimported it back into voice Dream reader. I think it is a backup of your library. I have never had any of my books disappear from voice Dream Reader. You might consider deleting the app and reinstalling it after you backup your voice dream reader library. You might consider starting a new email conversation on this list asking about backing up and restoring your voice Dream Reader library via iTunes. I’ve never done it and so it might be best to ask to make sure that it will work. Re: Question about Voice Dream Reader capacity
Yes, I recall that originally it was necessary to copy that library database manually but I think an update a while back rendered this unnecessary. I too have a large library of books on VDR and would hate to lose them so I would also appreciate confirmation from one of the experienced list members about how to back up that library via iTunes so a new device could be restored from that backup with all books present and correct! Question about Voice Dream Reader capacity
Hello, all. I’m using Voice Dream Reader on an iPad mini running IOS 8.3. It works well for the most part, but I’ve noticed something strange happening from time to time. I use dropbox to add files to the app. Periodically, I’ll add a file and it will be there for a day or so. Then, I’ll add another file, and a file that was previously added will disappear from the list of files. I’m not sure why this happens. Is there a limit to the number of files the app can hold? If not, does anyone know why this might be occurring? Shannon -- The following information is important for all members of the viphone list. All new members to the this list are moderated by default. RE: Question about Voice Dream Reader capacity
Shannon, I've not experienced your issue on my iPhone 6 running iOS 8.3. I'm unaware of any limit to the number of files Voice Dream Reader can hold other than the practical limit set by the capacity of your device. Files that you add to Voice Dream whether from Dropbox or the other services it supports are actually downloaded into your device so should remain there unless your device runs out of space. have you played with the sort order setting within Voice Dream to see if files you thought were no longer there might be ordered differently from what you expected? If you continue to get unusual behavior from Voice Dream, you should write Winston as Richard suggested. You might also consider uninstalling and reinstalling the app but this might require you to reload all your files again so you should make sure you have a recent backup before doing this. Also, the latest version of Voice Dream is 3.7 and you might consider upgrading if you're not already using it. RE: Question about Voice Dream Reader capacity
Is the file still there on Dropbox? I'm not sure if Voice Dream Reader actually stores those files or is just accessing Dropbox. If the file is removed from Dropbox and then disappears from Voice Dream Reader that would explain it. I have over a hundred books in Voice Dream, and had not had any files disappear, but most of mine are from Bookshare. If the files are still there on Dropbox, then I'd suggest writing supp...@voicedream.com and see what Winston says. Thanks to both of you. If the problem persists, I will write to the developer. Is there a way to back up the data on Voice Dream, or would I just elect to back up and later restore my whole device? RE: Question about Voice Dream Reader capacity
Shannon, I don't know of a way to back up just your Voice Dream data. I know when I've changed phones and restored an encrypted iTunes backup to my new device that all my Voice Dream books were restored. I did have to re-download my purchased Voice Dream voices, however. Good luck and we'll keep our fingers crossed that your problem does not persist.
