Re: Questions regarding Uber, or Lift

2017-10-07 Thread Andy Baracco
The answer to pretty much all of your questions is yes. i find that the
services are pretty much the same, in fact many drivers drive for both
services. I find the apps easy to use, but i guess that's a matter of skill
level, self confidence, etc. Yes, you pay with a credit or devit card, and
this info is given when you set the app up. Yes, you can make stops along
the way. Yes, you can schedule a ride for someone else, but it will be
charged to you. With lyft, you choose a tip amount, and it is added to the
charge on your card. I believe that you can tip Uber drivers with cash, if
you prefer.
Each company offers several ride options that vary with your geographical
area. In large cities like L. A. for example, Uber and Lyft both have a
shared ride service which saves you some money if you don't mind sharing the
ride with another passenger. I find that the trips are intuitively
scheduled, so you are not taken much out of your way to pick up and drop off
the other passenger.
In some cities Uber has a service called Access which uses a wheelchair
equipped vehicle, and the drivers receive additional training for serving
folks with disabilities. i do not know if Lyft offers this service.
in some cities, you can schedule rides in advance. I know you can do this
with lyft, not sure about Uber. The web sites for both are very informative,
and will tell you which services are available in your particular area.
There is also a service for seniors called Go Go Grandparent, which allows
you to order these rides by making a phonecall.
This service is offered by Great Call, You can call 855 464-6872 to sign up
and order rides from this service. Note that there is an additional charge
per ride when you use this service.

HTH!

Re: Questions regarding Uber, or Lift

2017-10-07 Thread Marie
I use Uber here in Reno with great success and I have to question the
treatment of their drivers. I have asked almost every driver if they have
any problems with Uber and they say "No". And I tend to wonder if some of
these rumors come from the taxi services who want Uber and Lift gone because
of the competition. The services have certainly taken business away from
them with good reason. Here, the Reno taxis are not as clean, and the prices
are exorbitant so I don't use them but use Uber instead as many others do.
I live outside the ADA area so can not always depend on Para transit so Uber
has made it so much easier for me to get around independently.

The apps themselves are of course free, whether one service is better than
another may depend on your city. In some places the same drivers may drive
for Lift and Uber.
Here in Canada Uber is only available in a few of the larger cities and I
have used it in Calgary and the drivers were always very good, but at one
point we went from our hotel to a mall using Uber and then going back we
used a regular taxi, both times it was in the late afternoon/early evening
when things were quite busy and the distance was not very far, maybe 2 or 3
Km. In that example Ueber was more expensive because of their surcharge
during times when there is high demand and of course there is all the bad
press Uber has been getting because of how they are treating their
employees, their drivers and some of the practices they have employeed which
are unethical to say the least. They are suffering because of this right now
with London having revoked their license and I think there is a chance they
are getting kicked out of Quebec. Vancouver on the other hand is apparently
going to start letting Uber come in this fall, at least that was the plan.

RE: Questions regarding Uber, or Lift

2017-10-07 Thread Lynda Ingraham
Hi Teri,

I recently started using Lyft and like it a lot. I have only had one friver
that I rated less than 5 stars. She received that rating based on poor
navigation skills. She had to make one right turn and drive for 1.5 miles
straight to get to my house. With GPS, she got lost.

Lyft will allow their drivers to accept their tips in cash. As far as paying
the fare, yes, it must be paid through a card.

You can schedule and pay for a ride for a friend on your phone.

Both apps are pretty easy to use. You can put in the pick up and drop-off
locations and then get an estimate. A car will not be sent unless you
specifically tap on the button that says "request ride." I was afraid I was
going to have a car sent when I was getting pricing info. Just be sure to not
press "request ride" unless you really want a ride.

I may be wrong about this fact. I thought that I read the background check for
Lyft drivers is a little more extensive than for Uber. I asked two different
drivers. Both said the background check with Lyft was more extensive. Again,
not positive this is the case.

Re: Questions regarding Uber, or Lift

2017-10-07 Thread Anthony Vece
Hi Terri;

I have no problems with either app.

Once in a while I receive promotions from Lyft for 10 per cent off rides
between 9 a
M to 5 PM with Lyft.

Questions regarding Uber, or Lift

2017-10-07 Thread Terri Stimmel
Hello all,

I know there have been many questions on this list, regarding both of
these services. Unfortunately, I didn't keep up with the threads,
because I don't travel alone. Just a personal choice.

However, now I have some questions about both services.

First of all, is there a difference in the services?

Is 1 better over the other? I know that will be opinion. But sometimes
there isn't anything wrong with this.

Is 1 App easier to use than the other?

Now if I set up 1 of these Apps on my phone, do you always have to pay
with a card?

And if the App is on my phone, can I send an Uber, or Lift driver to
maybe pick a friend up, as long as the charges are set to my card?

Also, will you know ahead of time how much a trip might cost?

What does each App go by, when it comes to pricing?

Any help with any of this would be much appreciated.

Thank you,

Terri
