The funny thing was, wile looking on Amazon for keyboard bag, they had a 10

Alan, I think we're talking about the same case. The reviews indicated
people were taking the keyboard out of the case and then fitting it back
into the case when finished. Many of them said the fit was too tight to
do this easily. This is definitely not the case I want though it does

Hi Lisa, I'm so glad to hear that my podcast helped you make a good
decision. I looked at the case for it from Amazon and wasn't
personally impressed. Of course it's totally subjective and so don't
take my word for it. What I did was get a Targus gadget bag which is
about 10 inches from left to right and it holds my keyboard, my extra
battery pack, various cables, headphones, and anything else which is
on the smaller side. Then when I travel I just put the keyboard in
that and it fits just fine along with the New Trent battery packs,
their cables, my Bluetooth headphones, and a couple of USB sticks and
USB cables. Basically the nerd things I would need on a job or
personal trip. I don't even take my netook any more, which used to be
my default portable solution.

This keyboard is small, but the keys are large enough for someone with

the up and down arrow keys. There are also media control keys, as well
as a volume key at the top of the keyboard. You can turn on voice over

only the top row are different from a conventional keyboard.

I really like this keyboard's feel for the money. I'm considering

Hi, more on this app. I played with it a little more and saw that in
order for it to read, it uses cloud-based TTS reading. So this means
that which ever document you have loaded in the app, it uses data to
send the document to the net and then the TTS voice reads it to you.
So, this is a bit like streaming. I don't know how much data it uses
up with this method, but I don't see it as being a viable source of
reading text files. I also think it only supports txt files, but I
could be wrong on this point. I would still choose to use Voice Dream
Reader since it offers much more features and it doesn't use a
cloud-based TTS to get you that higher quality voice.

Hi, I changed the subject line to be a bit more appropriate to the
topic discussed. In any case, I didn't give those because I said where
you could get it from. I also believe I compared it to the Apple

the cost is currently $29.99.

Hi, the batteries are the same I've used since June 2012 and I've yet to
replace them. Several times I've even forgotten to turn off the keyboard
via the power switch, but it goes into sleep mode and so battery life is
saved. All in all, this is the best Bluetooth keyboard for under $40
I've seen.

Hi. I purchased this keyboard on the basis of Raul's awesome demo. The
price was also a contributing factor. It was under $30 and eligible for

Thanks to the demo, I was able to pair the keyboard with my iPhone
completely solo, and I'm a totally blind tech dork. The only difference
between my experience and the demo was that I had to install the
batteries myself. Otherwise, I'm very happy with my purchase.

This keyboard is small, but the keys are large enough for someone with
big hands, there's a raised dot on the F and J keys, as well as dots on
the up and down arrow keys. There are also media control keys, as well
as a volume key at the top of the keyboard. You can turn on voice over
help once the keyboard is paired and learn the layout that way, though
only the top row are different from a conventional keyboard.

I really like this keyboard's feel for the money. I'm considering
purchasing the case Amazon offers just to extend the keyboard's
portability.

Hi, Raul.

The case I was looking at was the Adore June Keeb selling for around $20 on
Amazon.com. From what I can tell, you have to remove the keyboard whenever
you want to use it. I really want something I can carry the keyboard around
and still use it without removing from the case.

I'm seriously thinking about a messenger bag or something similar to carry

Hi Lisa, I'm so glad to hear that my podcast helped you make a good
decision. I looked at the case for it from Amazon and wasn't personally
impressed. Of course it's totally subjective and so don't take my word for
it. What I did was get a Targus gadget bag which is about 10 inches from
left to right and it holds my keyboard, my extra battery pack, various
cables, headphones, and anything else which is on the smaller side. Then
when I travel I just put the keyboard in that and it fits just fine along
with the New Trent battery packs, their cables, my Bluetooth headphones,
and a couple of USB sticks and USB cables. Basically the nerd things I
would need on a job or personal trip. I don't even take my netook any
more, which used to be my default portable solution.

Lisa, if I understood the description of that case, it's zippered so you
could leave it in the case and when you need it, just unzip the cover and
flip it back over the typing keys. For 20 bucks it's really well made.

2013-03-19 Thread Alan Paganelli
Raul, I have a question about the Amazon basics Bluetooth keyboard sense I
ordered mine. It won't be here until Monday because I chose free super
saver shipping. What I'd like to know is, when the keyboard is connected to
my iPhone, will I still have the screen active as well? In other words, if
I touch the screen of my iPhone will I still hear voice over? I'm sure I'll
get the hang of the keyboard after a bit but wile I'm learning it it would
be nice too if I can also open let's say email via the phone and use the
keyboard just to type in text in an email message.

My reason for buying it was so that I can do email wile traveling.

Thanks for this great little keyboard recommendation. I really didn't want
to shell out allot of money for a keyboard that will only get limited use.
This should fill my needs rather nicely.

It actually looks pretty good. I was able to scroll to a certain part
of
the text and double tap it. The speech began reading from that point.
I
have not yet connected my dropbox account to it or added other
things.

So the only experience I have so far is with the sample text. I
switched
between two different voices and it all seems fine. I wonder what the
catch is or what the limits are considering that it is free. I notice
that it only has a 3.5 rating in the App Store. Perhaps I should go
read
the comments to see what others have said. However based on the
initial

impressions this app does look rather promising.

Re: Amazon Basics Bluetooth keyboard question - Was Re: Question to Raul

2013-03-19 Thread Alan Paganelli
Funny you mentioning your netbook. When I'm traveling in the motor home I
take both my laptop and my netbook. The laptop has a battery life of over
12 hours so it's good to watch a movie or two when we're not plugged into
shore power and I use the netbook to read and reply to email. After
listening to your podcast about the keyboard I thought wow, this might just
let me leave the netbook at home. Do you have any idea of how long the 2
batteries last? I know my only other experience with a wireless keyboard
was with a infrared keyboard and the batteries lasted forever.

Hi. I purchased this keyboard on the basis of Raul's awesome demo. The
price was also a contributing factor. It was under $30 and eligible for
that ever popular Super Saver Shipping.

Alan, I think we're talking about the same case. The reviews indicated
people were taking the keyboard out of the case and then fitting it back
into the case when finished. Many of them said the fit was too tight to do
this easily. This is definitely not the case I want though it does sound
like it would protect the keyboard.

Hi

The touch screen behaves similarly regardless of external keyboard. Only
difference is that there is no keyboard in the text entering screens by
default but you can turn it on by the eject key on the keyboard or turnign

Raul, I have a question about the Amazon basics Bluetooth keyboard sense I
ordered mine. It won't be here until Monday because I chose free super saver
shipping. What I'd like to know is, when the keyboard is connected to my
iPhone, will I still have the screen active as well? In other words, if I
touch the screen of my iPhone will I still hear voice over? I'm sure I'll
get the hang of the keyboard after a bit but wile I'm learning it it would be
nice too if I can also open let's say email via the phone and use the
keyboard just to type in text in an email message.

My reason for buying it was so that I can do email wile traveling.

Thanks for this great little keyboard recommendation. I really didn't want
to shell out allot of money for a keyboard that will only get limited use.
This should fill my needs rather nicely.

Re: Amazon Basics Bluetooth keyboard question - Was Re: Question to Raul

2013-03-18 Thread Lisa belville
Hi. I purchased this keyboard on the basis of Raul's awesome demo. The
price was also a contributing factor. It was under $30 and eligible for
that ever popular Super Saver Shipping.

Thanks to the demo, I was able to pair the keyboard with my iPhone
completely solo, and I'm a totally blind tech dork. The only difference
between my experience and the demo was that I had to install the batteries
myself. Otherwise, I'm very happy with my purchase.

This keyboard is small, but the keys are large enough for someone with big
hands, there's a raised dot on the F and J keys, as well as dots on the up
and down arrow keys. There are also media control keys, as well as a volume
key at the top of the keyboard. You can turn on voice over help once the
keyboard is paired and learn the layout that way, though only the top row
are different from a conventional keyboard.

I really like this keyboard's feel for the money. I'm considering
purchasing the case Amazon offers just to extend the keyboard's portability.

RE: Amazon Basics Bluetooth keyboard question - Was Re: Question to Raul

2013-03-18 Thread Richard Turner
I'm not Raul, but this is my favorite keyboard.
It is about 10.5 inches wide, 4.5 inches front to back and less than a half
an inch thick at its thickest point.
It takes two triple A batteries that come in the box, but a little hard to
find.
I really like the feel of the keys when typing. I have reasonably large
hands and yet it is very comfortable to type on.
If you've seen the Apple keyboard, it is about a half inch smaller in each
direction, yet has more keys. One of the bigger pluses for this keyboard is
that it has the option key on both sides of the space bar, which helps with
some of the VoiceOver keystrokes.

It is regularly $45, so if it is still on sale for basically $30, which will
qualify for free shipping, I'd say go for it.

Raul's podcast apparently explains the pairing steps, so I won't go into
that here.

2013-03-18 Thread Lisa belville
Hi. Yes, he pairs the keyboard with his phone, which was an iPhone 4s, I
think. The steps weren't that much different between the 4 S and the iPhone
5. I've only had to pair it one more time after the initial pairing, but I
think that's because the keyboard was off and I thought something else was
wrong, so had the phone forget the keyboard and repeated the pairing. Ever
since then, it's just fine.

The only draw back is that when it gives you the pairing codes, you need to
be farily quick at tapping in the numbers or the pairing will fail and
you'll need to begin the paring process again to generate a new set of
numbers.

Yes I've had that issue, it doesn't give you much time to type in the paring

Hi. Yes, he pairs the keyboard with his phone, which was an iPhone 4s, I
think. The steps weren't that much different between the 4 S and the
iPhone 5. I've only had to pair it one more time after the initial
pairing, but I think that's because the keyboard was off and I thought
something else was wrong, so had the phone forget the keyboard and
repeated the pairing. Ever since then, it's just fine.

The only draw back is that when it gives you the pairing codes, you need
to be farily quick at tapping in the numbers or the pairing will fail and
you'll need to begin the paring process again to generate a new set of
numbers.

I'm not Raul, but this is my favorite keyboard.
It is about 10.5 inches wide, 4.5 inches front to back and less than a
half

an inch thick at its thickest point.
It takes two triple A batteries that come in the box, but a little hard
to

find.
I really like the feel of the keys when typing. I have reasonably large
hands and yet it is very comfortable to type on.
If you've seen the Apple keyboard, it is about a half inch smaller in
each
direction, yet has more keys. One of the bigger pluses for this keyboard
is
that it has the option key on both sides of the space bar, which helps
with

some of the VoiceOver keystrokes.

It is regularly $45, so if it is still on sale for basically $30, which
will

qualify for free shipping, I'd say go for it.

Raul's podcast apparently explains the pairing steps, so I won't go into
that here.

Hi Lisa, I'm so glad to hear that my podcast helped you make a good
decision. I looked at the case for it from Amazon and wasn't personally
impressed. Of course it's totally subjective and so don't take my word
for it. What I did was get a Targus gadget bag which is about 10 inches
from left to right and it holds my keyboard, my extra battery pack,
various cables, headphones, and anything else which is on the smaller
side. Then when I travel I just put the keyboard in that and it fits
just fine along with the New Trent battery packs, their cables, my
Bluetooth headphones, and a couple of USB sticks and USB cables.
Basically the nerd things I would need on a job or personal trip. I
don't even take my netook any more, which used to be my default portable
solution.

Hi Richard, and for the record, it was due to your glowing reports on
this keyboard that I ended up getting it in the first place. So, thank
you for that recommendation. Before getting this keyboard I was using
the StowAway folding keyboard, and I didn't think anything coud beat it.
Actually I still think it's better in some ways, but the problem is that
they are no longer made, and this keyboard was dropped a couple of times
and 2 of the keys were starting not to work very well. The letters L and
K sometimes wouldn't type, and you gotta have that L in your life. So, I
checked out different BT keyboards and finally landed on the Amazon one.
Sure, it doesn't fold, but that's not an issue for me.
