Yes, apparently not really getting much relaxation from his shooting.
Perhaps he should try something like meditation, which really has been shown to
be very relaxing.

Hi Sieghard,

I agree with you to some degree, but before I lost my sight at the age of 23 I
only had a small interest in guns, so to speak. I did some hunting, dove,
quail, & duck, & that was all with a shotgun. I shot my father's .22 caliber
handgun / pistol from time to time, but never in my wildest dreams could I have
perceived what was going to happen after I lost my sight.

I lost my sight in 1981, & somewhere between 1981 & 1988 I had purchased a
handgun for home protection, but in order to be a responsible owner / user
finding a place to shoot was a problem! Well, I learned about an indoor
shooting range that I joined in 1988. Wow! What a rush! Not the rush as in
that I was totally enthralled with shooting, but how relaxed I felt after
shooting. I was always stressed out, & this newly found way of relaxation made
me feel so good! I evem spoke with a volunteer psychologist at the Braille
Institute about how good I felt afterwards, & he said keep it up. What made me
feel so good was the fact that my mind was on nothing else but the shooting!
No blind crap worries,no legal worries, just out & out total relaxation. In
short, I lost my sight from total medical malpractice from an abscessed wisdom
tooth, not anything else! So, for may years I was pissed off at the world, &
this newly found way of relaxation helped reel me back into reality, & in

sea fishing, & now 36 years later I can say I miss my sight, but if this
had not happened to me I wouldn't be the person I am today, & damn happy to be

RE: Announcement: Blind Shooters (unmoderated discussion group)

2017-08-15 Thread Mike Ulrich
Hey Don, what’s the name of that shop/range, and where’s it located at?

Which Ruger to you have? Is it one of those auto pistols with the funky Ruger
designed slide? The old Mob loved those, with the round barrel; as it lended
very well to threading for a be quiet screwed on the end! All one would hear is
the brass clinking on the ground.

I also wanted one of those for sure. I did have a tricked out Ruger 10-22. But
to make something that nice of a badly beat up $50.00 pawn shop P O S took me a
lot of money. But man, it was Bad A for sure.

I miss my guns. Right after I went blind and was staying at my ex step sister’s
house, the day after Hurricane Charlie hit, someone broke into my apartment and
forced their way into my cheap and not too secure, Wal Mart long gun and short
gun lock box. They got away with some very serious firepower, many black guns,
and a whole lot of ammo. The Cape Coral police detectives were a bunch of
idiots. Even though with just losing my sight and going through the whole
emotional thing, I knew these guys weren’t worth a darn.

Anyways, I’d like to get back into guns again.

Don, how are you going about getting your CCW? Back when I got one, when
sighted in 1999, you had to have a reason to carry. At the time I had my own
hot dog cart business, so I just said I had to make daily deposits every day
and have cash on hand at all times.

What’s the deal nowadays; particularly for the blind?

I truthfully have found that the range owners and gun store proprietors are
some of the most creative about access and assisting us wherever needed.

When I bought my 22 Ruger, I also bought some ammo.

I agree with you to some degree, but before I lost my sight at the age of 23 I

Hi Malcolm,
Totally agree!

I thought this list is called ViPhone, and not ViGun.

and to Mike B, who gives his U.s Rant, further down this thread, well first,
let me say, you should moderate your Language!. It doesn’t sound like your Gun
Toting views, has done very much for your stress levels to me.

Maybe you need a different hobby!

All the best, and i hope you don’t shoot yourself in the foot.

Dave.

I find it rather strange that we are discussing guns and shooting on an Apple

The link between Apple and guns is rather tenuous unless your name is William

I agree with you to some degree, but before I lost my sight at the age of 23
I only had a small interest in guns, so to speak. I did some hunting, dove,

that I was totally enthralled with shooting, but how relaxed I felt after
shooting. I was always stressed out, & this newly found way of relaxation made
me feel so good! I evem spoke with a volunteer psychologist at the Braille

Re: Announcement: Blind Shooters (unmoderated discussion group)

2017-08-14 Thread Mike B.
Hi Sieghard,

I agree with you to some degree, but before I lost my sight at the age of 23
I only had a small interest in guns, so to speak. I did some hunting, dove,
quail, & duck, & that was all with a shotgun. I shot my father's .22
caliber handgun / pistol from time to time, but never in my wildest dreams
could I have perceived what was going to happen after I lost my sight.

Not the rush as
in that I was totally enthralled with shooting, but how relaxed I felt after
shooting. I was always stressed out, & this newly found way of relaxation
made me feel so good! I evem spoke with a volunteer psychologist at the
Braille Institute about how good I felt afterwards, & he said keep it up.
What made me feel so good was the fact that my mind was on nothing else but
the shooting! No blind crap worries,no legal worries, just out & out total
relaxation. In short, I lost my sight from total medical malpractice from
an abscessed wisdom tooth, not anything else! So, for may years I was
pissed off at the world, & this newly found way of relaxation helped reel me
back into reality, & in short, made me a better all around person! From
shooting I graduated to deep sea fishing, & now 36 years later I can say
I miss my sight, but if this had not happened to me I wouldn't be the person
I am today, & damn happy to be who I am!

So, all the people around the world that think that all the United States
citizens are gun nuts are wrong! Y'all read too much crap & have developed
wrong opinions on what you read, & not by actually knowing! Most of the
people I know don't own guns, & don't know the 1st thing about them!
American fascination with guns, as Trump would say, FAKE NEWS, & he would be
right! If other countries had the same fredoms as American citizens have,
you would probably be singing a different tune, but since you don't, quit
judging us by the crap you read, & try getting to know the people you
criticize! I for 1 am damn tired of being judged by people that don't know
shit about Americans, except for tcrap they read & don't take the time to
develop their own opinion based on knowledge rather than heresay! How often
do you hear Americans talking shit about all the rest of y'all?! You don't!

I'm not a damn bit sorry for what I just wrote, so don't expect an apology!

Take care. Mike. Go Dodgers!

Hopefully all you blind shooters won't take offense, but when a bunch of
Americans talk about shooting I think it's pretty clear that they mean
primarily guns. I really find the fascination most americans have with guns
fascinating, no other country in the world is that crazy about guns.
Anyhow, I'll leave it at that and before all of you gun lovers start yelling
at me I should point out that I have nothing against hunting and sports
shooting, after all, I have an outdoor and hunting store and sell a couple
of hundred firearms a year myself, I loved to shoot before I became blind at
the age of 16, but I don't personally shoot and just don't see a point in it
just as I don't see a point in driving a car along at a slow speed where
somebody sitting next to me can tell me to pgo a bit left or a bit right or
whatever and of course as a Canadian coming originall from Germany I find it
baffling why a normal citizen would want to walk around packing a gun, I'm
very glad that this is not possible here and feel a lot safer for it.

Hi All,

My apologies for the cross-post - I’ll make this quick.

Considering that my recent iOS app posting for Where to Shoot prompted some
good discussion and ideas and also private notes to me with questions about
shooting, I have started the Blind Shooters Google Group.

This is an unmoderated email list and is meant for all topics around shooting
as a visually impaired / blind person.

Here is the link for those interested in joining.

Thanks all, see you there and please have a great rest of your weekend!

Cheers!

Subject: Announcement: Blind Shooters (unmoderated discussion group)

Hi All,

My apologies for the cross-post - I’ll make this quick.

Considering that my recent iOS app posting for Where to Shoot prompted some
good discussion and ideas and also private notes to me with questions about
shooting, I have started the Blind Shooters Google Group.

This is an unmoderated email list and is meant for all topics around
shooting as a visually impaired / blind person.

Here is the link for those interested in joining.

Thanks all, see you there and please have a great rest of your weekend!

Cheers!

Cara
