I always wait until the point one release before upgrading to a full
numbered iOS version. Many fewer surprises and headaches that way.

My issue with the audio messages is that you use to could tap audio,
then it gives you the option to start the recording. That is no longer
a thing it auto startsrecording. Still wish we had the option to skip
to an audio message when listening back.

The issue too, is that not everybody has this issue; I'm lucky to be counted
among these! Apart from when hocusing the status bar kind of in the middle, in
order to 3-finger up or down for notification or Control Center, iOS17 is
working great on an iPad 9th Generation, and on this iPhone SE 2nd Generation!

Re: Any reasons to not upgrade to iOS 17?

2023-09-26 Thread Wayne Merritt
I like my experience so far on iOS 17. The extra vibrations take some
getting used to, but I found that I liked the extra feedback. My
double tap speed was affected a little, but I changed the amount of
time VoiceOver waits for the double tap gesture at the bottom of VO
settings, and things are working much better. I also like that I can
choose whether to be notified by sound or vibration, or speech when a
new notification comes in. Having VoiceOver automatically read back
the notification in 16, when it was done speaking the selected item,
worked good. However, I like now that it just plays a sound and has
the vibration, but doesn't interrupt what I'm doing. Then, if I want
to see what the notification was, I can check the status bar or go to
the notification center.
The one thing I will say that I don't like in 17 is the emoji
keyboard. In 16, when I switched to the emoji keyboard when writing, I
was able to view my 30 most recent emojis used. Now, there is text on
the far left of the emoji keyboard which talks about stickers, and
then the recent emojis start about halfway along the keyboard. What I
don't like is there does not appear to be a way to dismiss or close
the sticker message, and that it moves the existing emojis over. I
contacted Apple Accessibility a few nights ago to let them know.
Through a screen share, the agent was able to see my issue. Though he
acknowledged it, and understood there was no way to close the message,
he could not give an estimation of when it would be fixed. I suggested
there could be an option in the Messages Settings to close or show the
stickers item, like there are now toggles in iMessage to turn on or
off different iMessage apps. I asked if he would pass my feedback to
the team which handles that aspect, and he indicated he would. I can
live with the change, but it does seem odd that there are close or
dismiss buttons in many other places throughout iOS but not with
stickers.
There may be a few things which are annoying, but over all, I have no
regrets since updating. I think that iOS 17 makes the over all feel
and experience a lot smoother.

All the best,
Wayne

a daily basis, nothing to worry about.

The difference with audio messages now is that you need to stop and send the
recording rather than it automatically sending like in iOS 16.

You may not like the feel of the double tap, as it feels different somehow,
which I can't explain, but to me it is different than what I was accustomed too
in my earlier iPhones from iPhone 4.5 and higher, actually since 2013 in
October.

I agree that the double tap feels different and sometimes I don't even
get done what I'm trying to do.

RE: Any reasons to not upgrade to iOS 17?

2023-09-26 Thread Feliciano Godoy
iOS 17 hasn't broke accessibility for me with the exception of the change with
audio messages with the native messages app. If you don't use audio messages on
a daily basis, nothing to worry about.

The difference with audio messages now is that you need to stop and send the
recording rather than it automatically sending like in iOS 16.
