You probably did a split-tap. Split-tap does the same action as double-tap.

Steven, I'm not aware of any changes, but then I only have an IPhone 5 and
not a 5s.

It could actually have been a split tap unless you only touched the phone with 
1 finger.  This would be the same as a double tap.  As far as I know, nothing 
has changed as far as answering.
