I had the same machine with the same issue you mentioned. Despite multiple repairs by HP over 1year, they were unable to resolve the issue, passing the blame on to my OS. So I got a Lenovo L3 & the experience has put me off HP. I just retired the HP Envy I had for years and replaced it with an HP Laptop. I went with it primarily because I liked the price point, and I was happy with my HP Envy, a lot happier than the Dell's we use at the office. I also go with a 15 inch laptop to get the full sized keyboard, but also use an external keyboard almost exclusively. Not sure if you're asking about specs or not, but I've got an I5 processor, 8G of RAM, and a 256G SSD. I use it pretty much the same way you do, and I find it performs just fine. Yes, I did that and also had my computer guy update all the drivers, nothing seemed to fix it.
