HI Mark,

We don't have an Apple store locally. so had to go into our local vodafone
store. but no they didn't!.

The main reason was, because I had my find my I phone feature enabled, he
said he couldn't book it in for repair.

The long and short of it is, he was only going to give me their own android
phone, to give me phone access for the 3 to 5 days mine would be in the
workshop.

Best regards,

Del

So off to the store with broken phone in the morning!.

Hi Del,

How long has it been where it is showing the Apple?

Also, did you do a few preparations before installing? Here are the steps
you should always perform:

1. Make sure all your apps are updated.
2. Bring up the app switcher with a double press of the home key and close
all apps.
3. Connect to iTunes and, if you sync media and/or apps, do a Transfer All
Purchases and a Sync, then do a backup. If you don't usually connect to
iTunes to sync music or apps, at least do an iCloud backup.
4. As a minimum, power down your phone completely, wait 30 seconds and
restart it. Possibly even better is to go to Settings, General, Reset and
tap on Reset All Network Settings. This will tell you that all your
network settings will be set to factory default, you have to confirm and
then this will be done and the phone will reboot. Keep in mind that doing
this will require you to reconnect to your WiFi network and you will have to
make sure you know the password to do so.
5. Now go to Settings, General, Software update and update iOS.

As Jonathan pointed out, if your 4S is really stuck and hasn't come back
after a couple of hours, then connecting your iPhone to a computer with
iTunes is the only way to fix it.

Sieghard

  Hi Del,

Did you have the phone plugged in while you were doing the upgrade or did
your battery die during the upgrade? I can't remember if it allows you to even
start an update if your battery is low, but if it does and your battery dies
in the middle of it then this could definitely cause problems.

Hi Del. You may have to force the phone into DFU mode. To do this, after
connecting the phone to iTunes, hold down the Home and Power buttons together
for about six seconds, then release the power button while keeping the Home
button held down until iTunes detects the phone in DFU mode. This should take
about another 10 seconds.

Hi Del, you'll probably have to connect your phone to Itunes. The phone
is likely to come up in DFU, Device Firmware Update mode, and give you the
chance to restore the software.

Sieghard

I have heard several people say not to update a 4S and others have said it's
okay to, so I am not sure if it was a good idea or not for you to update it.
They say the processor of the 4S is not fast enough to run IOS 8.

Hi all,

I tried to update to IOs8 this evening, and it seemed all was going well.
until such times the phone needed to switch off and reboot to install the
software update.

Since then, I can't get the phone to load anything at all.

the only thing it will do is show the Apple as it usually does before
voiceover and such loads.

So question is: has anyone any idea as to what could be causing this
problem. and any suggestions on how to remedy the situation.

Just for your reference I'm using an I phone 4 S.

Hi Del,

Did you have the phone plugged in while you were doing the upgrade or did
your battery die during the upgrade? I can't remember if it allows you to
even start an update if your battery is low, but if it does and your
battery dies in the middle of it then this could definitely cause problems.

Hi Del. You may have to force the phone into DFU mode. To do this, after
connecting the phone to iTunes, hold down the Home and Power buttons
together for about six seconds, then release the power button while
keeping the Home button held down until iTunes detects the phone in DFU
mode. This should take about another 10 seconds.

Hi Del, you'll probably have to connect your phone to Itunes. The phone is
likely to come up in DFU, Device Firmware Update mode, and give you the
chance to restore the software.

RE: Phone refuses to load.

2014-09-28 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Del,

If it still shows the Apple logo then I would say there is power to the
phone. Did you try what Jonathan suggested? Here are instructions both for
recovery and DFU mode. Both are similar but there are some differences. I
would try recovery mode first and if that doesn't work try DFU mode:

If you can't update or restore your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

You can put your iOS device into recovery mode, then restore it using
iTunes.
You might need to use recovery mode to restore your device in these cases:
. iTunes doesn't recognize your device or says it's in recovery mode.
. You see the Apple logo onscreen for several minutes with no progress bar.
. You see the Connect to iTunes screen.

Learn what to do if you see the progress bar onscreen for several minutes.

To put your device into recovery mode, follow these steps:
1. Turn off your device and leave it off.
2. Plug in your device's USB cable to a computer with iTunes.
3. Hold down the Home button on your device as you connect the USB cable.
Keep holding down the Home button until you see the Connect to iTunes
screen.
4. When you see this screen, release the Home button. If you don't see this
screen, try steps 1 through 3 again.

When your device is connected, iTunes will open. You'll see a message saying
that iTunes has detected an iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch in recovery mode.
Use iTunes to restore your device. Restoring in recovery mode will erase
your device. If you previously synced with iTunes or iCloud, you might be
able to restore from your backup.

Putting your iPhone into DFU mode

1. Connect your iPhone to the computer and open iTunes.
2. Press the Sleep/Wake button and Home button on the iPhone
simultaneously and hold for exactly 10 seconds.
3. Release the Sleep/Wake button while continuing to hold Home for an
additional 10 seconds. A black screen will appear on your iPhone. iTunes
will recognize the device and display this message: iTunes has detected an
iPhone in recovery mode. You must restore this iPhone before it can be used
with iTunes.

Good luck,
Sieghard
