Thanks, Kelly. So with regard to the screen on the 15 Pro, how is it for
typing. I’m probably one of the few people who still tap taps with one finger
on the keyboard, and after all this time with this phone, I’ve gotten fairly
good at it. so I’m just curious about the size of the screen and how long it’s
taking you to adjust, unless of course you’re using braille or an external
keyboard.

RE: Pro vs Max

2023-09-25 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
The screen on the 15 Pro and your XR is the same 6.1 inches. Of course your XR
I am pretty sure still has an LCD screen whereas the 15 Pro has an OLED screen.
As for actual size, the iPhone 15 Pro is slightly smaller due to the fact that
nowadays the bezzels are smaller which allows you to put the same size screen
on a slightly smaller phone.
This is also indicated by the percentage of screen-to-body ratio which is part
of the information below:

iPhone XR
Screen: 6.1 inches, 90.3 cm² (79.0% screen-to-body ratio)
Body: 150.9 x 75.7 x 8.3 mm (5.94 x 2.98 x 0.33 in)
Weight: 194 grams (6.84 oz)

iPhone 15 Pro
Screen: 6.1 inches, 91.3 cm² (88.2% screen-to-body ratio)
Body: 146.6 x 70.6 x 8.3 mm (5.77 x 2.78 x 0.33 in)
Weight: 187 g (6.60 oz)

iPhone 15 Pro is smaller than the XR by the following measurements:
Height: 4.3 mm (that is right in between an eighth of an inch and a quarter
inch, to be exact it is very close to 3/16 of an inch.
Width: 5.1 mm which is even slightly more of a difference in width, still not
quite a quarter of an inch, but fairly close and it would be noticeable.
Thickness: same/no difference
Weight: 15 Pro is 7 grams lighter, that is sort of like 2 teaspoons of salt and
you would be hard pressed to notice that.

2023-09-25 Thread Kelly Ford
Hi Mary,

The screen on this 15 Pro is pretty much, the same as it was as far as size on
the 10 R. For me, who does most of my typing with the touch keyboard on the
phone, it has been the same as typing on the iPhone XR. Those really been no
change in the experience, so no time to adapt.

As I mentioned, part of the driving factor for me, upgrading, was planning for
next year‘s releases. I didn’t want to find myself in the case of feeling
compelled to buy the iPhone 15 Pro next summer, just to use the new operating
systems, knowing there’d be a new model of the phone out in a few months at
that point.

Mich,

I upgraded from a 12 Pro to a 14 Pro.  My reasoning was that there
wasn't really anything I needed on the 15 model.  yes, it has a better
camera, but for the purposes of OCR and general photos it didn't matter
to me.

It is a bit thinner than my old 12 Pro.  coming from an iPhone 8 the 14
would be a huge improvement.

Oh, and my carrier gave me $700 off on my trade in, so I have just under
$300 for the 14 Pro, which I will probably pay off long before the three
years is up.

Even paying taxes, you're still getting a good deal and the 14 will be
able to take updates for several years.

Also, the lightening cables still work with it, though I did have to get
a USBC charging brick.

what I am doing. Once you really start to break these phones in the
battery doesn't last as long because your doing everything on it. I

Hi Mary,

I went with the newer phone now, because as I understand it next summer, I
won’t be able to update to the next version of iOS and if that’s going to be
the case, I decided I would get the newer model as early as possible because I
like to run test versions of the next OS release.

I will say the one other thing that I have noticed in how I use my phone that
is faster is the results of dictation being processed if I use the phone
dictation feature for text input.

I am generally someone who likes to keep my existing phone until I’m no longer
able to update the operating system. I had used my iPhone 5S until I bought the
10R.

I am told that pictures from the 15 are visually noticeably better, but I don’t
really have a way to quantify that. I mean, yes, I understand the megapixels
and such as far as the technical specifics. I don’t know yet, if that
translates to more detail when using the various artificial intelligence
services to describe photos.

Interesting. I also have a 10 r with which I am quite happy. But I was thinking
about getting a 15 pro because it’s a lot newer and I thought it might have
better performance better battery life and the better camera. But, Kelly, based
on your comments, I’m thinking about not bothering.

2023-09-24 Thread Kelly Ford
I appreciate all the replies here.

I did go with the iPhone 15 Pro and have been using it since Friday. I chose
the Pro in large part because I prefer the smaller size. That said, so far I’m
really not noticing meaningful differences in most tasks between my iPhone 10R
and this 15 Pro. Apps might launch a bit faster but VoiceOver performance when
moving between items is about the same and add-heavy web sites with videos that
play muted by default still seem to bring VoiceOver to very problematic web
performance.

I’m not saying any of this to be critical and it is too early to know about
battery performance.

The reason I stick with the smaller model is that it fits where I need it to
fit. I think that phones are getting way to large, almost as big as tablets.

I was doing the same thing until I decided to upgrade to the 15 Pro. I so wish

I realize you asked about the 15.
I had to update in February as my 11 pro couldnt hold out nine months!
I opted for the 14 pro max though a larger screen then the pro.
I am so glad i did as i get 14-16 hours on one charge!
This is texting mail constantly whatsapping facebook phone calling and
using my hotspot with the braillesense!
Hope this helps!

Battery life on the 15 Pro is
23 hours, 29 on the Max.

Hi Kelly,
Like Robert stated, the larger models get much, much better battery life.
Before purchasing my beloved 14 Pro Max, I always carried a charging cable with
me, when out for a day. With the Pro Max, I never, ever worry about running
out of power in a day, even when using GPS navigation for hours at a time. The
phone is amazing.
I would think that the battery on the Plus models would be as good as the Pro
Max but cannot personally confirm this as I do not own a Plus model.

I had to update in February as my 11 pro couldnt hold out nine months!
I opted for the 14 pro max though a larger screen then the pro.
I am so glad i did as i get 14-16 hours on one charge!

Hm I don't even get 2 days with my max. When I got it I got about 16
to 18 hours, but now I still can get through 12 or 14 depending on
what I am doing. Once you really start to break these phones in the
battery doesn't last as long because your doing everything on it. I
read I watch youtube, and do a bit of social media. Along with my
banking and gps. So I am never complaining about more battery life.

Hi,

I got an iPhone 14 Pro this past summer. I don’t use the battery as heavily as
some of you, but I routinely get two days on one charge, so I think the odds
are good it would last through a whole day if I did use the GPS extensively for
a day. I’m not doubting that the battery life on the Max is better, just saying
it’s surprisingly good on the regular Pro as well.

Best,

Chiming in here, I had the 14 pro. I guess it depends on how much you use the
phone. But I normally got two days out of each charge. But if you listen to
music a lot or use GPS, it can drop your battery pretty quickly. I'm playing
with a program called transcriptionist which can transcribe audio like a
podcast into a txt file. And it is a battery hog.

I tend to use my iPad mini for listening to podcasts at home.

out of power in a day, even when using GPS navigation for hours at a time. The
phone is amazing.

I would think that the battery on the Plus models would be as good as the Pro
Max but cannot personally confirm this as I do not own a Plus model.

Kelly
I realize you asked about the 15.
I had to update in February as my 11 pro couldnt hold out nine months!
I opted for the 14 pro max though a larger screen then the pro.
I am so glad i did as i get 14-16 hours on one charge!
This is texting mail constantly whatsapping facebook phone calling and using my
hotspot with the braillesense!
Hope this helps!
