Thanks in advance for any assistance.

No, the problem is not with your iPhone. The problem is with the Apple
Mail/Gmail interface. For some reason, Gmail does not push to the iPhone, no
matter what your settings are, except when mail is open on the phone.

 Hi Alan,

Unless you have set up your mail account to check manually or at certain time
intervals, notifications should come regardless as to whether the mail app is
running or not. Go to Settings, Mail, Contacts and Calendar and make sure you
have set up your mail account to fetch mail with Push. This will use a bit
more battery, but I don’t think it’s all that bad, I have 3 accounts set up

didn’t notice much of a difference as far as battery was concerned.

2014-01-22 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Kay,

Simply open the Mail app, make sure you are backed out of any accounts to
the main screen of the Mail app.

Now find VIP in your accounts list, make sure you swipe right once where
Voiceover will say More Info for VIP and double tap on this.

This will be your list of people which you added to VIP, if you never added
anybody this will of course be empty.

There is an Add button, double tap it and select who you want in your VIP
list from your Contacts, that's all.

It also points out right in this area that you can set custom alerts in
Notification Settings under Mail, VIP.

Take care,

RE: VIP Inbox Notification Followup

2014-01-21 Thread Alan Lemly
Sieghard, thanks for your comments but even though I have my mail app
settings set to push, my VIP notifications don't notify me until I open the
mail app. I tested it tonight by having my VIP person send me a message and
it clearly did not notify me until I opened the mail app. I guess I need to
explore further to see how to get it to notify me the way I want.

Hi Alan,

Unless you have set up your mail account to check manually or at certain
time intervals, notifications should come regardless as to whether the mail
app is running or not. Go to Settings, Mail, Contacts and Calendar and make
sure you have set up your mail account to fetch mail with Push. This will
use a bit more battery, but I don't think it's all that bad, I have 3
accounts set up with Push and when I once set them to fetch mail only once
every hour I didn't notice much of a difference as far as battery was
concerned.

Regards,

Sieghard

Thanks for the help pointing me to the VIP Inbox to get notifications about
emails from specific contacts.

I guess I'm still a bit unclear how these notifications work as compared to
text notifications so I have a followup question. I was hoping to be
notified when I get a message from my VIP contacts in the same way I am when
I receive a text message. But my VIP notifications don't occur until I
launch the Mail app. Is there a setting I need to tweak to get notified even
when the Mail app isn't running or is what I'm wanting not possible?

Thanks in advance for any assistance.

RE: VIP Inbox Notification Followup

2014-01-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Alan,

Was your phone locked or unlocked when you tested it? I assume you will have
to go to Settings, Notification Center, Mail, then select the VIP account
and make sure you have selected to include it in Notification Center and
also that it shows alerts on the lock screen. You may also have to enable
Voiceover to speak notifications on the lock screen in Voiceover settings,
but I'm not sure if that is necessary or not.

Regards,

Sieghard
