Re: a question about focusing and thermostats and washers and stoves.

2013-06-17 Thread Alan Paganelli
I know what you mean. I like how for example the water temperature button
makes different pitched tones to let you know which one you've selected and if
you just take the default settings you can't go to far wrong. I like the
normal wash setting too. I have tried the normal setting on the dryer but it
left some clothes very slightly damp so I have changed those. Talking goggles
does pretty good at reading the display for me but it's a bit of a pain having
to play around with it. It's not the fault of the app though. The machine is
not perfectly stationary either and I'm sure that effects it too but still, it
works if your willing to mess around with it.

Again, somewhat off topic, but I have one of those new machines and I don't
care what it says. I just wash everything at normal cycle and my wife has never
complained, at least about my washing. My machine also beeps a different tone

Sometimes there just is not an app for that and it's easier to find an

Re: a question about focusing and thermostats and washers and stoves.

2013-06-15 Thread Alan Paganelli
We have one of the new washers and dryers. I couldn't believe they were 22
hundred and that was with a thousand knocked off because they were on sail. I
have to say that they were well worth the money. I do our laundry once a week
on Mondays and have been doing so for years. An average laundry day use to
take around 14 hours from start to finish. Today I can do it in about 8 hours.
I save 6 hours and the washer uses a fraction of the water it use to. The
clothes are dry in a fraction of the time they use to take.

The washer and dryer both have advanced sensors that can determine how long it
will take for each load. Of course for those who insist on doing it the old
way it will do that as well but it will take longer and waste more water and
energy. So, I use the normal wash and the sanitize setting on the dryer. It
uses a bit of water to make steam and uses that to keep the clothes wrinkle
free. Even I can get the clothes coming out free of wrinkles.

I know that all this sounds off topic. The two machines have full displays
showing your chosen settings and how long it will take to finish the load in
hours, minutes, and seconds. If the sensors determine it will take less time
then normal it will subtract time. If more time is needed, more time is added
although I've never seen that happen.

Ok here's the part making it on topic. Because time may be subtracted from the
display I use talking Goggles to read the display for me. It does require some
fooling around with as far as moving my iPhone 4 closer or pulling it back or
moving it up or down but in the end, 9 times out of 10 I can get it to read the
time remaining to me in hours or minutes in 1-H 22-M remaining. Our gas stove
is so old, I think it came over on the Mayflower. grin Digital desplays were
not even thought of then. LOL! Most people still rubbed two sticks to make
fire.

Hope that answers the question.

I think it also helps a lot to ask a sighted person to take a look and
explain to you where exactly the temperature is displayed.
Furthermore, on some thermostats the screen goes to sleep and you have to
push a button to wake it up, then the temperature may be displayed for a
while before it goes off again. Knowing all of this really helps in
understanding how to best take a picture.
