But how really do you press the side button?

I know what you’re saying but you would really have to press that side button
to make the phone talk.

But yeah turn the volume down,

Or get some headphones

Hi,

Since I updated my phone, an older SE, when I mute the phone with the side
switch, it will vibrate as usual when a message or alert comes in, but it also
speaks exactly what's coming in on the screen rather than remaining silent as
before. Any place I need to change a setting to make it mute VO like it used to
when the phone is muted?

Thanks.

Yes, sorry - I should have said the 3 finger double tap just turned off speech
not Voice Over. When wanting to silence my phone while in a meeting or class,
this plus flipping the mute button to mute is all I need do to not be
interrupted. I like the fact that the phone will still vibrate letting me know
I've gotten a call or text that will need to be checked later.

I find the easiest thing to do to silence one’s phone is to first flip the
switch to mute then do a 3 finger double tap to turn off voice over. I find
this much easier than changing a setting. When out of the meeting, simply do
another 3 finger double tap to turn voice over back on & flip the mute switch
to unmute.

People can't contact you with Do Not Disturb on if you disable the feature
where a call which is repeated within 2 minutes it let through, but of course
you also have to make sure you don't allow Emergency Bypass for some people.
This is much easier now in iOS 15 because if you really want a Focus where
nothing comes through you can create one and call it something like "Church" or
"Total Silence" or whatever and really turn off everything.

RE: muting phone, VO & IOS 15.1

2021-10-04 Thread Carolyn
I do that too, but the three-finger double-tap turns off Speech, not VoiceOver.

I find the easiest thing to do to silence one’s phone is to first flip the
switch to mute then do a 3 finger double tap to turn off voice over. I find
this much easier than changing a setting. When out of the meeting, simply do
another 3 finger double tap to turn voice over back on & flip the mute switch
to unmute.

It also sounds like the VoiceOver setting to speak all notifications is on.

Go to Settings, Accessibility, VoiceOver, Verbosity, and turn off Always Speak
Notifications.

The other options are very good as well.

Hi,

Since I updated my phone, an older SE, when I mute the phone with the
side switch, it will vibrate as usual when a message or alert comes in, but it
also speaks exactly what's coming in on the screen rather than remaining silent
as before. Any place I need to change a setting to make it mute VO like it used
to when the phone is muted?

Thanks.

2021-10-04 Thread CJ & AA MAY
Whilst talking abut the phone, recently mine has become quite temperamental.

As you know, if you hold the phone to your ear but then draw it away, it goes
into speaker mode but recently when going into or out of this mode, I seem to
lose connectivity for a few seconds.

Yeah I don’t blame you. I tend to mute my phone, turn off the speech and turn
on screen curtain on my phone. I just find I have the best privacy that way.

Thanks.

Vicki

Re: muting phone, VO & IOS 15.1

2021-10-03 Thread Wendy Lin
Yeah I don’t blame you. I tend to mute my phone, turn off the speech and turn
on screen curtain on my phone. I just find I have the best privacy that way.

2021-10-03 Thread Simon A Fogarty
You could go in to notifications and turn them off for things that are
appearing on the lock screen.
That’s probably the safer option other than turn vo off or down in those
situations.

Thanks.

Vicki

2021-10-03 Thread Carolyn
In church this morning, I muted mine, but also turned off Speech, because stuff
that appears on the screen will be announced, as long as Speech is on.
