Re: Suddenly Gmail messages are not being deleted from the server
I have the same sort of problem but a little different. I use gmail on firefox and I have to checkbox and press delete and then do it again to actually delete emails. Not sure why this is. Hi, I have the same settings as you do however under Outlook 2016 it is not working as advertised; and like I said Microsoft has been able to duplicate the difficulty as was reported. Christopher, Your analysis is absolutely correct. Gmail attaches labels to each message. When you move a message into a folder, a label is attached to that message. When you look at a folder, you're looking at the messages that have that label attached to it. Gmail is not making copies of your messages. When you delete a message, the trash label is added and all other labels are removed. The all mail folder simply lists all of the messages on the server regardless of what label is attached. Nothing is copied into the all mail folder, and it has nothing to do with archiving messages. When a message is marked for deletion, you'll see it in the trash and all mail folders and it'll be removed from the server in about 30 days. If I go into my trash folder, I only see messages that are about five weeks old. I have older messages in my all mail folder because I have older messages moved into different folders. Like I said, this is based on my experience and my reading of the Gmail help pages. If I'm wrong, I'd love to be corrected and pointed to some more information. RE: Suddenly Gmail messages are not being deleted from the server
Hello Kimberly, There are a great number of reasons why your messages are no longer being synchronized. In short, you will have to begin a troubleshooting tour that, step-by-step, eliminates possibilities, one-by-one. The first step is to remove and restore your Google account on each client. While this may sound overwhelming, in truth, it is not. First, make certain that you can see all of your folders and mail items on the web version of gMail. Please note that I am not suggesting that you delete your gMail account on the web; what I am referring to is only your various mail clients that access the web server. On your iOS device, simply deactivate your gMail account by toggling it off. Then reboot your phone and toggle it back on. Effectively, you will do the same thing in outlook. Hopefully, this will resolve your problem. >From time-to-time I have to do this with various email accounts as they, for >whatever reason stop syncing with the web server. As for the particulars on how to do this in Outlook, this will depend upon the version you're currently using. A quick search on Google can get you all the info you need to know. If doing this does not work, then you can proceed to the next step in the process. The real test is to discover which of your clients is not syncing correctly. You can quickly determine this by first deleting a message in your client, then logging into the web, and seeing if that item remains in your Inbox. If it does, then you now know where the problem is. I have had an extremely exhausting day so please forgive any typos in this post. Good Luck and keep us posted.
