RE: Update on NLS App

2012-05-01 Thread Joe
Maybe it's just me, but I don't know how comfortable it'll be to listen to
NLS books on an iDevice. There's something about hardware, the ability to
physically press buttons to navigate that just seems more convenient than
swiping around a touch screen to pause, jump segments, etc. Yes, I know
there are headphones, but it'd be nice not to have to rely on those to
quickly move about without them. I know, I know. It just takes getting used
to a different way of doing things. Ironically, the Victor Stream has been
the best piece of assistive technology I ever invested in.--Joe

Sounds cool.

If I were the NLS, and I'm most certainly not, I'd hope to have at least a
prototype available for the summer convention season.

Time will tell.

What I've heard recently is that they are still working on an app. I heard
that, at least the initial version, won't allow you to download talking
books directly to the iPhone. You will have to download them on a PC, then
move them over via syncing them, similarly to what was done with the initial
Learning Ally offering.

Rumor has it that they will be demoing it at an upcoming conference for
member librarians.

BlankI would use such an app. I just don't dig out the old players much any
more since I got my I Devices. One day the regular player just arrived at my
door, the one NLS has, but before when I was listening to more bard, I was
downloading and using the booksense or stream.

RE: Update on NLS App

2012-05-01 Thread Michael Malver
For some reason, my victor stream quit working recently.

Rather than pay to get it fixed, I have decided to see what the status of
the IOS app is around convention time. If something is coming out that is
free or low cost, I'd rather by that than spend the outrageous fees human
ware charges to look at Victor Streams simply to determine how much the
repair will cost.

The stream has better battery life, but I'm thinking that given the
versatility of the IPHONE, it might not be worth getting the stream fixed.

Re: Update on NLS App

2012-05-01 Thread Steve Robertson
I enjoy Read to Go and Blio and would deffinitely read nls books on
the I Phone. Even though battery life is shorter, I bought a Phonesuit
Elite case that gives at least another full charge to the I Phone
battery, and that's good enough for me!

For some reason, my victor stream quit working recently.

Rather than pay to get it fixed, I have decided to see what the status
of the IOS app is around convention time. If something is coming out
that is free or low cost, I'd rather by that than spend the outrageous
fees human ware charges to look at Victor Streams simply to determine
how much the repair will cost.

The stream has better battery life, but I’m thinking that given the
versatility of the IPHONE, it might not be worth getting the stream fixed.

I think I would listen to far more books if I had an iOS app.

I've been looking forward to an NLS app for a long time, so the sooner
the better I say!

Maybe it’s just me, but I don’t know how comfortable it’ll be to listen
to NLS books on an iDevice. There’s something about hardware, the
ability to physically press buttons to navigate that just seems more
convenient than swiping around a touch screen to pause, jump segments,
etc. Yes, I know there are headphones, but it’d be nice not to have to
rely on those to quickly move about without them. I know, I know. It
just takes getting used to a different way of doing things. Ironically,
the Victor Stream has been the best piece of assistive technology I
ever invested in.--Joe

Sounds cool.

If I were the NLS, and I'm most certainly not, I'd hope to have at
least a prototype available for the summer convention season.

Time will tell.

What I've heard recently is that they are still working on an app. I
heard that, at least the initial version, won't allow you to download
talking books directly to the iPhone. You will have to download them on
a PC, then move them over via syncing them, similarly to what was done
with the initial Learning Ally offering.

Rumor has it that they will be demoing it at an upcoming conference for
member librarians.

Steve, could you give us a source where you heard this and maybe even where you
heard the rumor. It could be helpful in sorting fact from fiction.

2012-04-29 Thread Wayne Merritt
Just my own speculation here, but I would think that they would have
something to show at the summer conventions, even if it wasn't out by
that point. Time will tell though.
