Tomek, the creator doesn't know quite why Amazon does it this way either.
When you follow that link, then double tap on "all buying options" and then on
that page there is a link for "fopydo" double tap that and the add to cart
button will show up.
Good luck,
Richard

Hi,

Thank you for this, I found it. Now, the only option I have is to add to list,
I don't see the usual option to add to cart. Strange. Anyone else having this

I searched for "book reading aid" in the Amazon app and got this:
Fopydo Book Reading Aid for the Blind and Visually Impaired
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019RDEB4G/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_iBNZwbKBEWAFJ

I think if you search for "book reading aid" on the full web site, you will
probably find it as well.

The StandScan Pro is a cardboard box with lights in the top that folds down
nicely, if a bit flimbsy.
It is a bit tricky to set up, but works fine for standard sized documents, and
some people scan books with it successfully though you have to hold the book
open.
It costs about $39 plus shipping I think if you get the power bundle which
comes with both the 12 volt battery pack and a 9 volt battery pack plus the
included AC adapter.
The Fopydo stand plus book reading aid does not have lights, so depends on
either room light or the flash on the phone. It is designed so the foam pads
can hold the book open. Also, the stand can be adjusted in height to allow for
longer documents, even legal sized pages, and therefore also larger books. The
material it is made out of is more durable than the StandScan.
The combination of the stand and book reading aid costs $35 plus $5 shipping.
HTH,
Richard

Re: tips on using KNFB reader

2016-02-24 Thread Richard Turner

Richard

Just to add to Anne's comments, whether it is the best solution for you is
rather subjective, but I think it is the best overall solution and it also
happens to be the least expensive.
If you have no interest in scanning books, then the stand by itself is the way
to go. It is $12.00.
The full name is "Fopydo Scanning Stand for the Blind. You can get it via
PayPal through the fopydo web site: www.fopydo.com
Or, through Amazon where there is a $3.00 shipping charge. I don't know if he
charges shipping when you go through his site.

Hello Paul,

Whether the Fopydo is the best choice for your needs is a matter of personal
choice.
The Fopydo does not have its own lighting, but it folds away neatly, is very
adjustable for height and works with any smart phone. It’s by far the best
solution for reading books.
The StandScan Pro has its own lighting, folds away neatly, works with any smart
phone but is somewhat limited in the size of paper that will fit inside it.
The Giraffe Reader is the smallest and lightest of the stands, but is made to
fit a specific iPhone and is very limited as to the size of paper that works
with it.

These are the stands I own, and for me, the Fopydo is my favourite.

Cheers,

Anne

Re: tips on using KNFB reader

2016-02-24 Thread Anne Robertson

Cheers,

Anne

Thanks Anne for your very helpful observations about this item. If I only read
documents and pieces that are only a few pages or less, and not books, will the
stand be sufficient? Is it still the best item for this kind of reading?

Hello Sandy,

The book reading aid is the device I’ve been wanting for as long as I’ve had
OCR on the iPhone. I can sit in an armchair with the Fopydo on my lap and a
book open in front of me and read comfortably. The StandScan Pro needs to sit
on a firm base, and there’s nothing to hold a book open properly.

These days, I hardly ever use a flatbed scanner since the Fopydo and the iPhone
are so convenient to use.

So, in my opinion, the Fopydo with Book Reading Aid is the best scanning and
OCR solution.

Cheers,

Anne

hi Anne,
just wanting your opinion here: I have a stand scan pro and find it very usable
portable et cetera, but because people seem so happy with the book reading aid
of the foPydo device, I am considering purchasing it. do you think the book
reading aid is so good that it outweighs the fact that there is no lighting
provided with this stand? I don't wish to purchase extra things unless they
will provide me with increased functionality. so, in short, is the book reading
aid plus stand a deal breaker?

Hello,

for it, or do I have to purchase the stand again? I am not sure if the book
reader is sold separate, or if it is bundled with the stand.

Lighting isn't the factor that it used to be because KNFB reader has the
capacity to utilyze the camera flash or the flashlight.

Does the Fopydo Stand have built in lights?
Just asking because I know light can have a big effect on OCR results.

Thanks,

Hello Dionipher,

The easiest way to get good results every time with KNFBReader is to
buy the Fopydo stand with Book Reading Aid. It holds the phone in
exactly the right position for the book or sheet of paper, and the Book
Reading Aid holds the book open so that you can scan both pages at
once. You need to set the Document Type to Multiple Columns when
scanning books.
The Fopydo is lightweight and folds almost flat. It’s easy to carry in
a backpack and quick to assemble.

Cheers,

Anne

No, the one you want cost $35. I saw the one for $12 as well. That's not the
right one. You want the book reading eight.

Re: tips on using KNFB reader

2016-02-22 Thread Anne Robertson
The Fopydo stand wasn’t originally designed for blind people so it looks modern
and is made of modern materials. The Book Reading Aid was designed for us and,
in my opinion, it’s the best solution for reading print books.

I wish this kind of thing had existed forty years ago when I was doing my
degree, but back then, iPhones, and even laptop computers, were the stuff of
science fiction.

Cheers,

Anne

2016-02-22 Thread Harry Bell
It is simple, lightweight and functional. Not at all naff! Thin cream plastic
cardboard-like base and upright and shelf, all held together by thin chrome
hooks. Not expensive-looking but functional. Don't try sitting on it as it is
not ultra-sturdy! Harry

Does the Fopydo Stand have built in lights?
Just asking because I know light can have a big effect on OCR results.

Does the Fopydo Stand have built in lights?
Just asking because I know light can have a big effect on OCR results.

Hello Dionipher,

The easiest way to get good results every time with KNFBReader is to buy the
Fopydo stand with Book Reading Aid. It holds the phone in exactly the right
position for the book or sheet of paper, and the Book Reading Aid holds the
book open so that you can scan both pages at once. You need to set the Document
Type to Multiple Columns when scanning books.
The Fopydo is lightweight and folds almost flat. It’s easy to carry in a
backpack and quick to assemble.

Cheers,

Anne
