Malcolm, you are right. There I go again blaming a beature unfairly just
because I don't find it useful, grin.
Asking Aplle Accessibility to do a screen share will be the quickest way to
figure this out.

If nothing helps, it will be time to call Apple Accessibility and do a screen

Strange iPhone SE 2020 question?

2021-05-21 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
A friend of mine has an iPhone SE 2020 running the latest iOS 14.4.

If he places his finger on the screen and moves left, right, up or down
Voiceover does not announce the apps as he moves through them although the
iPhone does make the click and provide haptic feedback as expected.

The only way he can have apps announced is to flick right and left through them.

Oddly enough, the only apps that are spoken correctly if he places his finger
on them and moves right and left are those in the Dock.

So for example on the bottom row he has:

Phone, Mail, Safari and Music. If he places his finger bottom left and moves
right apps are read out correctly but no where else.

Any suggestions welcome.

Re: SE 2020 question

2021-04-14 Thread Vicky Collins
Oh, I'll use it eventually. It'll be my first iPhone with Face ID, it'll be the
smaller one that I prefer, and the 5 G will be there assuming it gets to where
I live in the next two or three years. And if things happen as they have in the
past when I've delayed activating my phones, the AppleCare doesn't start until
the phone is actually activated. I was surprised at this the first time when I
waited almost a year to activate one of my phones, so I called Apple to confirm.

If you think the original SE is slow compared to the 7, you'll be amazed at how
slow the 7 is compared to the SE 2020, and the 12.

68 percent and I have to charge it at least three times during a 24 hour

Holding volume down and power is how you shut down the newer iPhones and on
that screen in addition to the "tap to power off" button you have a button to
call 9 1 1.

On the 11, I press Volume Up, then Volume Down, then press Power Button. VO
says Power Off, and I double tap. Then to turn it back on I press and hold
Power Button to the count of 10. It takes a few seconds for the phone to come
up.

Hi Vicky,

One thing is for sure, you aren't going to learn about your iPhone 12 Mini by
leaving it in the box.

First of all it would be rare to get a case which is not compatible with
wireless charging these days so no need to take off the case to charge the
phone.
But if you really had to take off the case for some reason and you are worried
you could always just shut the phone off first and then remove the case. I
can't remember if you can still call 9 1 1 if the phone is in Airplane mode,
but that might be another option. Having said this, if you first remove one of
the lower corners from the case I really don't think there is much of a chance
you would call emergency accidentally.

Holding volume down and power is how you shut down the newer iPhones and on
that screen in addition to the "tap to power off" button you have a button to

I've never called 911 with my iPhone 8. I just hold down the power button for
a couple seconds and I slide my finger down until I hear close. I've never
seen anything about calling 911. I've also never heard of holding the down
volume and power buttons at all.

RE: SE 2020 question

2021-04-13 Thread Anne West
I didn’t know that tapping the power button 5 times on the SE calls 911. I do
know that I will never change cases or take one off to put my phone on the
wireless charger does call 911. That happened to me once. The dispatcher
laughed and said it happens often. I was waiting for the sirens screaming up
the hill to my house but thankfully, no one showed up.

Anyway, thanks for the info Richard.

Hi Ann,

Close,
Press the power and the down volume buttons together and you will get a message
with close,
Call emergency services (911) and power off,

You flick to the left to the power off and tap it.

Or the slightly longer but safer option is
Go in to settings,
General and then to the bottom of the general screen and there is a shutdown
option there.

If I ever need to power off my phone that is the one I normally go for.

And next thing I know there is an emergency services operator on the watch

Re: SE 2020 question

2021-04-13 Thread Richard Turner
You will be fine doing it the same old way.
Just be careful not to be squeezing the volume keys while holding in the
power/side switch, I cannot remember if that calls emergency services, but
tapping the power button 5 times I think does.
I have an SE 2020 and I have not called 911 accidentally as of yet.

Its actually a lever or switch, not really a button.
Flip it toward the back of the phone for mute, and toward the front for unmute.

Sounds like you have your mute switch set on mute. Flick the switch to the
other position and the ringer and alert sounds will play. You'll find the
mute switch near the volume buttons on the side of your phone.
