Clumsy Work Around For Broken Spectrum TV App

2023-09-23 Thread Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,

After four days of groaning, carping and gnashing of teeth, I played
with the Spectrum TV App for the iPhone and figured out a clumsy but
usable work around for accessing channels.  Here's how it works.

1.  Launch the app and move to the bottom of the screen and double tap
on the home tab.
2.  Near the top is the search field.  double Tap on the search edit
field and the field will open.
3.  Either using the keyboard or the dictation (I use dictation and if I
speak slowly, it usually works quite well) and enter a search term.
4.  Now usually you can go to the top of the screen again and see the
list of results. You can also tap the search button in the lower right
hand corner of the screen and then go to the top and see the results.

5.  One of the results will be your desired channel.
6.  If you tap on the desired result, you are not taken immediately to
Live TV, but you are given a list of options for the channel. Choose
watch in app and double tap that item.  The station will now start
playing live.

Note: you must keep your searches limited to very basic input.  For
example, when I searched on WKBW Channel 7 which is my local ABC
affiliate, I got a zero results return.  If I just searched on ABC, I
got a bunch of results one of which was my local
ABC affiliate.  Now the next time you want to switch channels, you will
see the recent search results in the screen before you enter anything.
You can use the recent search results to more quickly access your most
watched channels--kind of like a crippled version of favorites.

This is clumsy, but at least a usable method until full accessibility is
restored.

Re: Favorites on the Spectrum TV App

2020-06-27 Thread Andy Baracco
Actually, I figured it out. Under settings there is a Favorites button which
allows you to select your favorite channels. Then on the home screen after
launching the app, there is a button called Filter by, where you can choose
which channels you want displayed when the app opens. One of the choices is
Favorite Channels only.

Re: Spectrum TV app - Apple TV

2020-04-29 Thread Ed Worrell
Hello Peter,

Currently there is no way to sort numerically. I have been asking for this for
the last 6 months with Spectrum tech support. To change the way channels are
sorted: navigate to the left and when VoiceOver reads the station channel and
call letters click and hold on the SIRI remote track pad. This will pop-up
options to sort the channels.

I hope this helps.

2020-04-29 Thread Peter Logan
Yeah that is what I thought ..

I’m working with a guy about a couple of issues with AD on one of my local
channels, so I will mention it to him. I already have suggested a couple of
other fixes in the phone/pad app. Irritates me that from a DVR recording you
can’t turn on SAP…but you can CC.

RE: Setting up Spectrum TV app

2019-05-02 Thread Bill Outman
Further update on the Spectrum TV app situation. Apparently I have to have
Internet service through Spectrum as well as television to use the app. It
took three persons on the phone line to finally tell me that, and the phone
system did not recognize my request to speak with the accessibility
department. That was my second stop. Thankfully this was all on one phone
call.

Unfortunately, it is never made clear on Spectrum’s television advertisements
or on the basic info page about the app that Internet service through them is a
requirement. If it is disclosed in the TV ads, it’s in print on the screen,
which of course I cannot see.

So that’s the story on this issue.

Well, it looks like I’ll have to make a call to Spectrum, then. I am presuming
all of us in each apartment have different account numbers even though the
complex is paying for a certain level of service, as in theory you could
upgrade to another level. I could be wrong about this, though.

I actually had a situation where I was suddenly be charged extra for a certain
type of box, and had the box changed so I wouldn’t have that extra fee, and
even got a more user friendly remote. They charged me for that change, though,
which I didn’t care for, so I ended up paying some money to save money.

I am thinking that perhaps you can only set up an account if you are the one
paying the bill.

If the app gets the sign on information from your spectrum modem then you can
only use it when you are in range of that particular modem. That is the way my
husband‘s iPhone is set up.

I set mine up by putting in the user name and password and I can use it even
when there is no spectrum available.

My only complaint about the app is that I like to use the live TV tab to pick
what to watch. I have not found a way to turn off the video sound so that I can
hear the voiceover reading the other choices. Very aggravating but usable .

RE: Setting up Spectrum TV app

2019-05-01 Thread Bill Outman

Setting up Spectrum TV app

2019-04-27 Thread Bill Outman
Good morning.

I finally got the courage to explore the Spctrum TV app after reading some
encouraging comments about it from previous posts on this list.

Can I set it up from within the app, and what information will I need to
provide? Do I need to go to the web site and is that process doable?

Re: Spectrum TV App

2019-01-05 Thread Jim Fettgather
Hello, the only way I have now found to silence the sound while Live TV is
playing is to activate one of the other tabs on the bottom of the screen, such
as Guide.
At least for me, with the iPhone in portrait mode, this silences the audio.
Not the best solution, but it seems to work every time.
Thanks.

I recently signed up for the Spectrum app and find it fairly easy to navigate.
I love that I can pick my favorite channels and then see what is currently
playing on each in a list.

I also like that I can choose a program on my phone and then choose to play it
on the living room TV!

What I can’t figure out is how to make the app stop playing a choice. When I
go to a tab for example Live TV, it immediately starts playing the audio from
some station, probably the last one I was watching. I can go through the list
and if I choose something it will replace the audio I hear from the previous
one. But it won’t go silent. Even when I choose to play it on the living room
TV the phone still keeps playing the audio and it is a second or so off from
the audio from the actual TV.

I have been using a work around of closing the app in the app switcher when
watching on the TV but want to know how to silence the app.

Thousands of programs, and they are very very easy to find and to play

Hello, you are indeed correct that while watching live TV, you can switch to
the secondary audio channel.

I have not found a way to do this while watching a program from the DVR, nor
have I found any fast forward controls.

I’m using the latest Spectrum app on an iPhone with IOS 12.

There is a bit of a problem with the guide.

You can easily scroll through the guide for any given channel, then tap on
network schedule for that channel.

The programs are listed, but Voiceover does not announce the times of the day
that programs are airing. It just simply says Time,, the name of the program,
but then if you elect to record the program, the times are then announced
correctly.

I like the app pretty well, but there some definite improvements that could be
made.

Thanks.

wondering as if you are doing “on demand”, there isn’t normally a SAP channel
for that .. which is another topic all together …

It just simply says Time,, the name of the program,
but then if you elect to record the program, the times are then announced
correctly.

I like the app pretty well, but there some definite improvements that could be
made.

Thanks.

Hello,

Looking at moving to Spectrum from Direct TV. Had a couple of questions
relating to the IPhone and IPad apps for Spectrum …

I know you can watch live TV with the app, and understand that you can also
switch the secondary audio…is this correct? Also, as far as watching recorded
stuff from your DVR, are you able to switch the audio there .. and are you able
to rewind and fast forward?

Thanks for any assistance …

RE: Spectrum TV App

2016-08-30 Thread Rob
I am sure it is like all other cable providers in that you have to have an
account subscription with the provider to use the app.

The merger of Time Warner and Charter will take several months if not years to
roll out to all areas. I am very sure you will know when Charter services come
to your town.

Hmmm, can anyone get this, or is it like Time Warner where you have to have
Charter to have it. Can Time Warner customers get this thing yet? I know their
app has gone backwards in accessibility in that I can't get on demand to play
any more from ios. This solution might be better.

Subject: Spectrum TV App

Hello,

Has anyone had any experience with this app? I just recently subscribed to the
Spectrum Stream which is Charter’s answer to Sling TV. The app is pretty
accessible, and with at least TBS it has the ability to swap to the Spanish SAP
feed and get video description. It doesn’t seem to be able to do the same for
the local networks. So, trying to find out if it’s Charter not doing this in
the app .. or my local channels not passing it on. Just wondering if anyone
else has used this app and if they are getting the DVS feeds ..

Thanks ...
