Re: The oddest thing

2013-06-09 Thread David Chittenden
Several months ago, I did 30 of the reboots in a row. I got the problem to
strike twice during those 30 reboots. The problem is extremely rare, and Apple
has not yet been able to reproduce it. It does not happen on every iPhone. My
iPhone 4 never had it happen. So, for this one, it is an extremely obscure
little bug.

Re: The oddest thing

2013-06-07 Thread Don Breda
Yes I did and it wasn't. This has happened to me a couple of times now and its
not fun. One cause I believe was the installation of firee2. That app has
caused me to lose voiceover more times then I can count with only configure
universal access in iTunes to restore voiceover. Haven't used firee2 in a good
while though and this happened for no apparent reason I can see. Strange I
know. Don

2013-06-07 Thread Patti Johnson
Hi Sieghard.
Thanks for the suggestions.
I did plug in a headset; no sounds.

I tried the three finger double tap, nothing.
The other day when I was doing something the voiceover kept cutting in an
out so it makes me think there is something really wrong with the phone.

Hi Patty,

A couple of things you can try:

Plug in a headset and check if you hear Voiceover. If you do then your
Voiceover volume got turned down to 0.

If that is the case, make sure your phone is unlocked with the headset
connected, then unplug the headset and do a 2-finger swipe up. This will
start reading the content on your screen starting at the top, now repeatedly
push the volume up button and you should be able to turn your speaker volume
up again.

If you don't hear Voiceover volume using the headset either, try a 3-finger
double tap which turns speech on/off. This is different from turning off
Voiceover with a triple click home and you may have accidently muted your
speech this way. You normally do hear the Voiceover clicks if speech is
muted this way and you said you don't hear any of that so I assume this is
not what happened although, as Mich pointed out, your mute switch may also
have been moved which would mute those sounds. For the phone to be unmuted,
the mute switch has to be in the forward position (towards the screen), if
you push it back and mute it, there will be a short vibration, you will not
get that vibration if you pull it forward again.

Good luck,

Sieghard

I thought everything was fine.

The phone was working till yesterday afternoon, when I was out. I had been
out a couple hours or so with my phone in my purse.

My friend and I stopped somewhere to get her some lunch, and I stayed in the
car. I took the phone out of my purse while she was inside placing her
order, and realized it was not speaking.

I thought, well maybe we are in an area with no signal, and figured once I
got it home and on its charger again speech and sounds would come back.

Well they haven't. I only get the sound when I lock the screen, reset by
pressing home and power, which I haven't done much of that; and I hear my
chime clock on the phone when it goes off.

Nothing else, not even the little blips you hear when your unlocking the
screen or going through apps. I tried restoring the phone through itunes,
nothing. I tried the triple tap on the screen and with the home key,
nothing.

It's a mystery, for sure.

Anybody got any thoughts?

RE: The oddest thing

2013-06-06 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Don,

When this happened, did you try to see if Voiceover was there with a
headset? I don't think I ever had Voiceover quit on me to the point where I
had to do a restore via iTunes to get it back as it mostly is an issue of
the volume going to 0 and this seems to happen more often if you use a dock.
There are different volume controls internally for the external speaker, a
headset or when it is plugged in to a dock and I've seen it where Voiceover
was fine when the phone was on the dock and as soon as you took it off there
was nothing because Voiceover volume for the external speaker had dropped to
0.

Regards,

Sieghard
