RE: Using an auxiliary camera with apps like Seeing AI or BeMyEyes

2021-09-24 Thread Richard Turner
Hi Sandy,
I agree, that would be nice. I know someone who records YouTube videos with a
cheap version of a GoPro type camera, but it only allows access through that
camera’s app; nothing else can use the camera.

Apple would have to allow the phone to access alternate cameras just like it
does now with keyboards.

My wife made me a prototype of an iPhone holder that you wear around your neck
and have the phone at the breastbone level or so, it was made out of heavy,
clear vinyl.
That way, it is protected from the rain and could work. It would just need
some higher level customization than what she can do to really make it
perfectly functional.

Such things already exist in one form or another.
NaviLens is definitely getting much more advanced and I’m starting to figure
out ways to use it in my house for labeling items.

Good luck,

Richard

thanks you two,
I shall contact the various app developers, but thought, just in case, someone
who may have already done this or at least tried it. some of these cameras
allow you to stream live, via your phone. so, I am hopeful… I have been trying
to promote Navilens, here in Ireland. however, for some people, the sort of
holding the expensive iPhones out, and available to be pinched, is a
showstopper. I can see lots of advantages to linking a small wearable camera to
the phone and the apps on it, so I shall persevere.
Thanks, Sandy PS, we don't have a I RA here in Ireland yet.

I doubt that unless the app supports the app that comes with the wearable
camera.
How about getting a holder designed to hold the phone with the camera facing
out.
Cane Travel/mobility instructors have been using various ones for a long time.
Plus people using AIRA etc.
Some are just a lanyard you wear around your neck that are clear or have a
cut-out for the camera and you wear them at about your breastbone level.
There are also wearable mounts that are like putting on a harness, that hold
the phone about a foot out from your chest.
I do not have any particular brand names, but search the web, Amazon, etc., and
you should find something with the words hands free lanyard, or hands free
phone mount, ... good luck.
