Exactly that’s what I’m afraid of! But too would you guys change the battery
on a 5S, to use it as an IPod of sorts? If so, could this phone be set up

You can but I'd suggest putting a sim in to get it setup and then removing the
sim again,

I normally suggest getting a blank or old no longer working sim so the

should not ever plug this phone into power until this is resolved.

I have an iPhone 8 with no sim card. I use it with all of my apps except I can
not make an outgoing call. I can only text with people that have idevices,
but, other than that, everything works perfectly. i can answer calls, but,
just not make them. My husband has an iPad, and he can make and receive calls
on it while on wifi. I often wonder why that is not the case with an iphone
with no sim.

RE: Using and setting up iPhones without Sims?

2020-08-29 Thread M. Taylor
Hello Gerardo,

Please do not continue to use a phone with a swollen battery. Doing so is
extremely dangerous. I cannot stress this enough.

If you go to Google or Yelp and search for cell phone repair, depending upon
where you live, you will find several local repair shops that can easily remove
the battery from your phone and, in many cases, replace the battery. About a
month ago, I had a swollen battery removed from one of my older phones for a
cash fee of $30.

A swollen phone battery, even if the screen continues to function, can explode
at any moment; trust me, you do not want this to happen.

When I discovered that one of my phones had a swollen battery, I placed it in a
huge box and put it on my back patio, overnight, until I could get it to the
shop, the next day.

My point is that, no matter how much you depend upon your phone, it is not
worth any injuries that could be the result of a chemically imbalanced battery
that could result in an explosion.

Some people think that some things are not a big deal; that is, until they are.

Be smart and do the following:
1.
Power down the phone, immediately.

2.
Place it in a large container so that nothing can press down or fall on the
phone.

3.
Place the container in an isolated location.

4.
Locate a professional who can safely remove the damaged battery from the phone.

Mark

2020-08-29 Thread Richard Turner
I did that.
No battery replacement, but after resetting it without a Sim card I was able to
use it like an iPod.

See what the battery replacement will cost and I'd double check with Apple to
confirm you will be able to set it up as a WiFi device if you get a new battery.

Re: Using and setting up iPhones without Sims?

2020-08-29 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Exactly that’s what I’m afraid of! But too would you guys change the battery on
a 5S, to use it as an IPod of sorts? If so, could this phone be set up without
a Sim card inserted?

Re: Using and setting up iPhones without Sims?

I would speak with Apple about this and see if a battery replacement
might be possible. You don't want that battery exploding on you for
sure. That could be highly dangerous and might even start a fire. You
should not ever plug this phone into power until this is resolved.

Using and setting up iPhones without Sims?

2020-08-29 Thread Gerardo Corripio
Can one set up and use an iPHone 5S without a SimCard inserted in? This phone
is deleted and restored to default, however the screen is so swollen that it’s
sometimes difficult flicking, double-tapping and others. If I had enough money,
I’d buy myself an IPOd touch at least for the purposes of multimedia
