RE: Beware, Wi-Fi Assist

2015-09-30 Thread Merv Keck
Hi,
This has always been a well-publicized feature of IOS 9. Apple has never
attempted to hide it and makes it very simple to toggle it on and off. I always
knew it was there since the day it first appeared, however, I ignored it even
though I spend a large amount of time on the fringe of my router's coverage
area. I finally checked my cellular usage one night when I noticed I had been
kicked onto my data plan even though I was in my apartment in the middle of the
night and saw that I was already up to 2.1 GB of data used about halfway
through the month. Usually I am at about 300 MB for the entire month. So I just
turned it off.
I am in a unique position where I actually have a cell tower about 300 yards
from where I am sitting so I can get bumped off my router to which I am pretty
far away quite easily.

I was somewhat concerned about WI-FI assist. My wife and I share a bucket of
15 gigs between her iPhone 4, my iPhone 5s, and both our iPad Airs. Fifteen
gigs between us seems to me to be plenty. Do I need to be concerned if I leave
WI-FI assist turned on or am I probably ok?

Re: Beware, Wi-Fi Assist

2015-09-30 Thread Kerri G
I forgot about it and I do not have a data plan unfortunately. Anyway, it’s
ridiculous to assume that Apple enabled this feature by default just to be in
bed with phone companies. Yes, I read that somewhere.

vital unity. Hate destroys a man's sense of values and his objectivity. It
causes him to describe the beautiful as ugly and the ugly as beautiful, and to

correcting everything that stands against love."

Wi-Fi Assist

2015-09-28 Thread Dixie
A new feature of IOS 9 may be causing you to unintentionally
use much more data.
http://qz.com/510329/you-might-want-to-turn-off-this-new-ios-9-setting-if-yo
u-dont-have-unlimited-data/

How to disable Wi-Fi Assist
1. Go to settings
2. Go to cellular
3. Go all the way to the bottom to Wi-Fi Assist
4. Hit the button to disable it.
