Re: extra plug adapter

2015-07-22 Thread 'RobH.' via VIPhone
I'd say one of the key things, is use the original charging lead, even if in an
outsider usb charger. Don't trust the cheapest
ones, one failed and fried an iPad Mini once. It was a new Mini, and got on to
Apple to tell them the new Mini didn't seem to work,
so they replaced it. Sometimes, it's good to keep trap shut.

I'm so glad this topic came up because I am having some charging issues. I
have a couple clarifying questions. Looking at the
Anker desktop model on Amazon, I was reassured that this device supports Apple
products. Based on an earlier comment in this
thread, that was a concern. The particular model I pulled up in my search
noted that there was a newer model that supports Iphone
6. I am still on an iPhone 4. Do I need to factor this in when selecting a
USB device charger? I will upgrade my phone at some
point this year and do not want my charger to be obsolete, if possible. Also,
does it matter what W value is in the product
description? On this particular search, it referenced a 40W desktop model and
an 18W wall charger.

Finally, if the issue is actually with my cord, what is the most economical way
to replace it? I accidentally broke my spare in a
vacuuming accident. grin

Hi Fazil,

I was going to send this directly to you since it's not exactly iOS related,
but then I thought others on the list might find it
useful if they want to post a long link especially since from time to time
somebody posts something where the link gets wrapped to
multiple lines, spaces are inserted and so on.
Shortened URL's are also useful if you want to post a long URL to Twitter or
other site where messages are restricted to a certain
number of characters.

URL shorteners work by creating a so-called 301 redirect which links a long
webpage URL to a shortened version which is created by
the URL shortener.

There are several URL shorteners out there, Tiny URL, Google and Bitly are just
3 of the more popular ones. They basically work the
same way, you go to their respective websites, find the edit box where you
paste your long link which of course you first have to
copy to your clipboard, then there is a button to shorten it. The result is
then displayed, you can copy it to your clipboard again
and paste it into an email or post. The websites for the 3 services I mentioned
are as follows:

Google: http://goo.gl
TinyURL: http://www.TinyURL.com
Bitly: http://www.Bitley.com

Hi Fazil,

I agree with Allen regarding Anker products. They seem to be well-made and get
very high ratings on Amazon across their product
range of external batteries, cables or travel and car chargers.
I also have their 2-port model which is plugged in behind the bed so my wife
and I can have our iPhones plugged in at the same time
and it works as it should.
Since you are in Canada, below are direct links for Amazon.ca for their
Dual-port and 4-port travel chargers and also for the 5-port
family/desktop charger. The first two are just plugs without any cables which
plug directly into an outlet just like the Apple USB
wall plug. The 5-port desktop charger has a cable so it can sit on a desk or
table where it's accessible and you plug it in to the
wall outlet nearby with the cable. Since the Amazon links were quite long and
would have most likely wrapped over multiple lines
which sometimes makes them not work, I used the Google URL shortener to avoid
this:

I like the Anker products, too. I have one that plugs into the wall and has

sale months ago for $18 and just saw it for $18 again a couple of days ago.
They have ones with more ports, too.

Lori, everybody today needs to recharge something that requires a USB port.
In almost all new homes being built today, usb charging ports are included
right in all wall outlets. There are one to two electrical outlets and
several USB charging ports.

Walmart stores, bestbuy stores and just about everybody else carry charging
devices. These new outlets plug right in to a standard wall outlet. They
provide maybe 1 electrical outlet and 3 or 4 USB ports for charging your
devices. They actually aren't all that expensive either. They run around
ten dollars. With everybody needing more and more charging ports the
demand will only grow. The little cube thing you got with your iPhone only
has 1 USB port. Check out Walmart, Target, etc. You should have no problem
finding a salution to your USB shortage.

Thanks much, Alan.
I'm ashamed of my ignorance, what search phrase should I type on a store's

Thanks!

Lori, everybody today needs to recharge something that requires a USB port. In
almost all new homes being built today, usb charging ports are included right
in all wall outlets. There are one to two electrical outlets and several USB
charging ports.

Walmart stores, bestbuy stores and just about everybody else carry charging
devices. These new outlets plug right in to a standard wall outlet. They
provide maybe 1 electrical outlet and 3 or 4 USB ports for charging your
devices. They actually aren't all that expensive either. They run around ten
dollars. With everybody needing more and more charging ports the demand will
only grow. The little cube thing you got with your iPhone only has 1 USB port.
Check out Walmart, Target, etc. You should have no problem finding a salution
to your USB shortage.

Re: extra plug adapter

2015-07-20 Thread Lori Dent

Hi all,

I went today to Radio Shack and bought their plug adapter that plugs into a
standard wall outlet that has two USB ports so that I can charge several
of my bluetooth devices like my bluetooth headset or my bluetooth speaker
or even my mophia juice battery pack all at the same time.

This 2 port adapter only cost 21 with tax. They didn't have the 4 port
adapter so I got the 2 port adapter and this will work for me for what I
have . I might at a later time purchase another 2 port adapter. Take care.

Hi Allen P,

Thanks for your message about the USB port adapters. I went to Radio Shack

RE: extra plug adapter

2015-07-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Fazil,

I agree with Allen regarding Anker products. They seem to be well-made and get
very high ratings on Amazon across their product range of external batteries,
cables or travel and car chargers.
I also have their 2-port model which is plugged in behind the bed so my wife
and I can have our iPhones plugged in at the same time and it works as it
should.
Since you are in Canada, below are direct links for Amazon.ca for their
Dual-port and 4-port travel chargers and also for the 5-port family/desktop
charger. The first two are just plugs without any cables which plug directly
into an outlet just like the Apple USB wall plug. The 5-port desktop charger
has a cable so it can sit on a desk or table where it's accessible and you plug
it in to the wall outlet nearby with the cable. Since the Amazon links were
quite long and would have most likely wrapped over multiple lines which
sometimes makes them not work, I used the Google URL shortener to avoid this:

Technology
