Apple kills off iPod Nano and Shuffle: USA Today

2017-07-27 Thread M. Taylor
Apple kills off iPod Nano and Shuffle: USA Today

It marks the end of an era: Apple has officially (and quietly) killed off
the iPod Nano and the iPod Shuffle, leaving just the iPod Touch as the only
remaining version of the company's iconic portable music players. "Today, we
are simplifying our iPod lineup with two models of iPod touch now with
double the capacity starting at just $199 and we are discontinuing the iPod
shuffle and iPod nano,' Apple said in a statement. If you click on "buy"
links for the Shuffle or Nano on Apple's websites, you'll receive a notice
that "the page you're looking for can't be found. You can still get to
"support" pages for the discontinued iPods.

The writing has certainly been on the wall for some time, especially with
the features and functions of standalone iPods long part of the iPhone. The
iPod brand is now down to a $199 Touch version with 32GB of storage and a
$299 model with 128GB. Even with the presence of the lower priced Nano and
Shuffle, the iPod Touch has been the most popular iPod Apple sold; Touch
models provide an iPhone-like iOS experience without the phone. The iPod
Touch had been last updated in 2015. The then new iPod Nano is displayed
during an Apple special event at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts on
September 12, 2012 in San Francisco.

The original iPod was not the first portable music player when it debuted in
the fall of 2001, initially as a product that only worked with the Mac. But
it soon helped transform Apple's standing beyond being just a computer
company and set them on the road towards eventually becoming the most
powerful brand in tech. Through the years, Apple has introduced new iPod
designs at various price points, all of which, beyond the Touch models, that
have since been discontinued.

cannot get songs onto iPod Nano

2015-11-28 Thread Paul Ferrara
All, my wife upgraded to the latest iTunes version yesterday; she used to tab
to the actions menu and select “add to iPod”; however, this feature no longer
exists in this menu. Does anyone know what she can do now?

Thank you.

I am sure the minute you will have better speakers, if that matters. Of
course, the touch would be smaller, fit in your pocket. Maybe it's a tough
choice. I really like the mini 2.

actual headphone jack, meaning a very short signal path.

interesting. Have you tried an iPod through some higher-end

Hello Fanus,

The current Nanno is referred to as the Seventh Generation.

Any Apple retail store will be selling only the latest version of the Nanno. I
have one and I love it. VoiceOver works well on it.

Re: Latest iPod nano model

2014-11-06 Thread Fanus

Hello Mark
Thanks for the info. The problem is that here in South Africa are just a few
apple stores and unfortunately the nearest one is about 300 kilos from me.
The local store which does sell apple products tells me that their nano is a
4th generation and they want to convince me that is the latest model. That's
why I asked the question on the list.

Fanus

Hello Fanus,

The current Nanno is referred to as the Seventh Generation.

Any Apple retail store will be selling only the latest version of the Nanno.
I have one and I love it. VoiceOver works well on it.

IPod nano 5th generation not being recognized by windows

2014-09-24 Thread Jen Colley
Hi
I recently got an iPod nano 5th generation.
I’ve managed to connect it once initially to my windows 7 computer.
After that though, upon plugging it in, I get a message saying that windows
cannot recognize this device.
How do I fix this problem so my iPod will always connect.

ipod nano quit

2014-02-24 Thread Robert Doc Wright
Yesterday iTunes seem to recognize my ipod nano 5th gen just fine. Even to
the point that it stated that I had successfully synced 8 music files. When
I ejected it I heard voice over. Yet, when I connected it to my Bose sound
doc I heard nothing. when I reconnected it to my pc and turned iTunes on it
claimed that the ipod had to be restored. I started the process and after an
hour I could not tell that anything had happened. So I disconnected it
again and now it is not being recognized. does the nano have a reset button?

If we can't look at ourselves, and ask, why? then where does the learning
start?

new iPod nano setup

I mentioned the other day getting an iPod nano; it is here so:

1. Does it have a home button that allows for turning on VO right away; if
not, does it need to be set up using iTunes?

2. If vo can be turned on automatically, will the device walk me through its
setup?

3. Which folder do I move music to in iTunes so it will synch with the nano?

Thank you.

new iPod nano

2013-11-30 Thread Paul Ferrara
All, soon we will be getting an iPod nano; I have a few questions.

1. Does the nano have a home button that allows you to turn on voiceover from
the start, or must it be plugged into a computer to turn VO on?

2. What folder to you move music to in iTunes so that the iPod will recognize
it?

3. Are there any other things I should know before the nano arrives to save
from having issues later, tips, tricks, things to watch out for? Even if you
think it’s trivial, go ahead and tell me. If I know it already, it’s
fine—better sure and safe than ignorant and sorry.

Thanks.

Re: iPod nano 7th gen

2013-05-25 Thread Alan Paganelli
I don't have a Nano 7 but I do have a Nano 5 that I got for Christmas in 2010.
It's a 16 GB model and I only use it for music playback and FM radio listening
in a Logitech docking station we use in our motor home when traveling. The
Nano 5 is tall and slim kind of like a throw-away cigarette lighter. Although
it doesn't have Bluetooth, it does have a click wheel. It is handy for music
listening because as fast as you can spin your finger in a circle, it can
scroll that fast through song titles. It has a search capability but it is not
accessible. The Nano 5 does talk but it uses small wave files to announce each
item so there may be 400 MB of small wave files. I found them 1 day and could
play them on the computer and you hear Samantha saying the song title etc. For
use in a dock it can't be beat but they only go up to 16 GB in storage. Even
the new ones limit it to that 16 GB but I don't know for sure about the Nano 7.
Still, for music listening, they are really handy to pull out of a pocket and
plug in. I would suspect that with Bluetooth it's even easier because you can
use a head set that can connect to 2 devices. If you have an iPhone, you can
use the Nano for music listening and your phone's battery power can be used for
other things.

Re: iPod Nano

2013-01-28 Thread Alan Paganelli
I have an iPod Nano fifth generation. Although it has voice-over, it isn't
voice-over like it is on the iPhone etc meaning a screen reader. Instead,
it records short wave files to describe what it needs to and it does not
support copy and paste unless you go through iTunes and the changes are not
made until you next sync your Nano because the wave files need to be created
to announce your changes. If you don't like Samantha, you can also use
which ever voice your screen reader such as window-eyes or jaws uses. I
just have this mental picture of this little voice inside my computer
talking into a microphone! Yes I know that doesn't happy but with out
enough coffee in the morning I get a little crazy.

For example I can set audible timer to announce the elapsed time every

Why need a timer, as you have this facility in the fitness application on your
I pod Nano. All you do, is go into the fitness application, choose running, and
time out of the other options there. When you are ready to start on your tread
mill after selecting the options, then every five minutes, you will be alerted.
You have to set these options in the sport kit.

Re: new iPod nano

2012-10-21 Thread John Panarese
I have one. No, it's perfectly doable. VoiceOver is available to you. I
have paired my Bluetooth headphones without any issues and use them. It's a
simplified interface compared to the iPad or iPhone, but it's still fully
accessible.

 Hi all,
i am considering getting the new ipod nano. i'm wondering if anyone here has
purchased one. i know you can connect to bluetooth speakers but given that it
does not have an external speaker, i guess this can be a little more
challenging for voiceover users. and connecting to bluetooth headphones would
 be virtually impossible.
 just looking for feedback.
