Re: no success with Google goggles

2016-01-08 Thread Monica Jones
I might have to try this app again, but when I did have it, I couldn't get
it to read at all. I'll have to get it back and see if I find it better.
Once in awhile, I might get it to detect a letter but that was about it. I
did test in good light.

Hi,

I just downloaded Talking Goggles again after not having used it for a while
and when I used it in video mode on a package of Knorr Chicken Broth, it
read out "Chicken" almost right away so it does appear to still work. Also,
I just looked it up on the app store and according to what it says there it
was last updated on August 13, 2015 and the current version is 2.1. Not sure
why some people have reported there is an update today unless there is an
update in the US app store and it may not yet show up in the Canadian app
store. Fort hose who had an update, can you check the version and what it
says in the "What's New" section? The /August 13 update only has one fix:

it may not it was indeed updated here is what it says for the "What's New"
section for the latest update from :

"Resolved an issue with the spoken voice."

Best regards,
Sieghard

no success with Google goggles

2016-01-06 Thread Robin Christopherson
Christina

It’s Talking Goggles you want and not Google Goggles although I wouldn’t be
surprised if it used the same engine. Talking Goggles is the one that will
automatically read out what it recognises. It does need light but you’ll see a
Flash button at the top of the app screen so try toggling it for better results
if it isn’t doing well. I have had mixed results with packaging but find that
it usually ends up recognising something (either a logo, picture or some text)
on one of the sides - enough to tell me what the package, tin or CD is at
least. It isn’t as good as KNFB Reader, for example, for text recognition but
keeping it in constant record mode and just holding things underneath it for a
few seconds is such a nice way to have some feedback that I find this app
invaluable and definitely has its place. For info I’ve used it on a 5S and a 6S.

Thanks, Robin
