ringtones not playing
Hi all. I used one of the apps that was discussed here a few weeks ago. It was the 1500 ring tones free app. i downloaded them and did file sharing in itunes and got the tones on my phone. I wanted to change the new mail alert sound that I have so I went in to settings and selected the one I wanted. The problem is that the old alert keeps playing. Hi Rebecca, Mail alert sounds also have to be changed in Settings, Notifications, Mail. This is the case because if you have more than one mail account setup you can set different alert tones here. Thanks for that suggestion. That got me back to experimenting a bit. Didn't seem to matter although I thought at first it did. I put in the country code at the beginning of a contact I had deleted and recreated. However, I did that to one I didn't create and it didn't seem to make a difference. I did notice though that the hint on a contact ringtone says double tap to indicate a type. So, Before I went down and selected the ringtone, I went to the heading ringtone and double tapped that. Then when I selected a custom ringtone it played. It worked once but so far not the second time but at least it worked once. Interesting to me is the fact that all my contact / custom ringtones used to work just fine and I'm not sure just when that changed. Thanks for that pointer. I wonder if it has to do how you have the phone number entered in your Contacts. I guess an easy way to find out is to check how Voiceover announces a caller you want to assign a ringtone to. For example. Assume you have somebody by the name of Jack Miller in your contacts and Jack's phone number is 202-555-1234. Now, get Jack to call you and see if Voiceover says Call from Jack Miller or if Voiceover says Call from 202-555-1234. I think if it says Call from 202-555-1234 this might be the problem. contact ringtones not playing - revisited
I did a bit of researching in the archives today and a bit more on Google but did not find an answer to the issue of contact ringtones not playing instead of the default. Has anyone found any resolution to the problem? I can assign a ringtone to default and it plays nicely. If I put something else in as default and assign the first ringtone to a contact it does not play when I receive a call from that contact. I still get the default.
