Well, if there is no known interest in havingAcapela voices on IOS then yes,
the chances are very slim. It seems most of the Voice using community of IOS
users is unaware of the ability to add third party voices to the system, a
process of education and advocacy could cause the company to commit to such a
service.
Getting AppleVis or Living Blindfully to promote the voices that are currently
available would be a good start.

Just to add that you usually need to restart the device to get the voices
on the list. They are just voices so they can be used with VoiceOver.

RE: third party speech for IOS?

2024-02-21 Thread Richard Turner
And, a link to a reference about Apple maybe allowing third party voices on the
OS, and not within specific apps would be helpful.

I doubt this will be for all iOS without Apple incorporating it themselves like
they did with Eloquence.

RE: third party speech for IOS?

2024-02-21 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
I think maybe he was a bit confused and didn't check which list he was
responding to. Voices available for Voiceover on the iPhone are those you found
in Voiceover settings and no others.

What did you install it on please? As I know these are available on android,

I have no idea what you are saying.
This is an iPhone/iOS list and unless I am very mistaken the voices available
to use with voiceover system wide are those Apple offers under Settings >
Accessibility > Voiceover > Speech.

This is for iOS.

You are right, they have voices for Android, Mac and Windows.

I guess that I can disclose that this was in some part my initiative as we were
in talks to implement their voices in my app and I was the first to suggest
them to implement voices directly on iOS when Apple allowed that instead of
distributing through my app. But I think they had to wait till last year when
Apple made developer announcement for this with working project.

As such I was informed to test their voices as soon as it was published on the
App Store.

I think that they don’t still talk too much about it as the level of stability
may need some improvement.

It may be better if they started this through TestFlight, but if you trust them
based on their reputation that they will make this work well I think that final
price will be notably higher (similar to Android) so it may be a good
opportunity to get it at the lower price and use it later.

You just need to install the app with such functionality.

You may need to perform additional actions in the app like
downloading/purchasing of the voice.

At the moment two apps offer such functionality (and the second one is very
recent and still buggy):
https://apps.apple.com/rs/app/espeak-ng/id6444089174
https://apps.apple.com/rs/app/cereplay/id1665705245

RE: third party speech for IOS?

2024-02-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Can you please describe how you installed third party voices on an iPhone which
then were available to use with Voiceover?

There are CereProc voices which are high quality and cost 1$/voice.

I have just installed one of them. They do appear to be of solid quality but
are a bit laggy and buggy.
Still I did try them few weeks ago when I couldn’t make anything out of them so
you can call this a progress.

RE: third party speech for IOS?

2024-02-19 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Yes, you only get what Apple provides, but especially now that Eloquence is
available which a few years ago most of us would have said Apple will never
offer, there really are a lot of voices to choose from and very good ones. Yes,
I know for some that is never enough and the grass on the Android side of the
fence always seems greener to some when it comes to the lack of how open
Android is compared to iOS, but then again that is exactly why I like iOS as
that lack of access to areas of the OS also makes it more secure.

voices, compared to the limited options for iOS.
