The code has not been removed, but totally rewritten. Every thing will work as before. You will just notice some small changes. New update to Voice Dream dropping drop box and bookshare?
I saw a disturbing bit of text in the description of the newest update to voice dream reader. It said something to the effect that all code referencing the accessing of external sources such as drop box and Bookshare had been removed. What in the world does that mean? If, indeed, drop box and Bookshare have been dropped, that is a horrible retrogression in the quality of the program. hi, just installed latest update today, and as usual is owrking fine when downloading books from dropbox, just tryed it out. so it's working fine for me. HI. wondering if anyone has tried the latest voice dream update? The what’s new says something about web restrictions due to iOS? Deidre, You have several options for listening to music on your iPhone. Since you asked about Voice Dream Reader with Dropbox, based on what Christopher posted and your reply, it sounds as if you've done what's needed to get the music files uploaded to Voice Dream. Once that's done, they should be listed with your other files on the All Items screen in voice Dream. I'd suggest you might just want to listen to your music using Dropbox. When you navigate to the Dropbox folder containing your music files using the Dropbox app, double tapping on one of the song files will open a screen and the song should start playing from within the app. There is also a play button and a progress bar at the bottom of the screen that opens. Since the files are already in Dropbox, you shouldn't need to upload them into Voice Dream to listen using this approach. If you are like me and not dependent on iCloud, you can simply back up your phone to your computer. I do this using an encrypted iTunes backup but also have iTunes set to automatically backup to iCloud. The iCloud backup is not as extensive as the iTunes encrypted computer backup and it also necessitated that I purchase a bit more iCloud storage since the 5GB provided free was not enough to backup my phone. I opted for the 20GB of iCloud storage which is $.99 a month I believe. I do prefer using iTunes for managing my music on my phone since it is easy to sync and maintain playlists and iTunes is Apple's blessed software for managing content between a computer and an iDevice. However, since I don't believe the folder location for your iTunes library can be a Dropbox folder, you'll have to keep duplicates of your music if you want to have it in both iTunes and Dropbox. Granted, the Dropbox duplicates are in the cloud. Finally, you might consider looking at an app like Tonido. This app allows you to access all the files on your computer using your iPhone and in effect using your own computer as your personal cloud storage. just remember, if you use this approach that you're responsible for keeping your own backups since there would be no cloud safety net. Tonido is nice because it has its own built in music player so that when accessing music files on your local computer with it, you're able to listen to them from within the app. The version I use is accessible but I got it a while back and have only updated it one time. Alan Wow, a lot to think about. I'm sick though so finally quit doing anything on the main computer or in Voice Dream. I'm not sure I like the sounds of operating or sharing what is on my computer from the iPhone. It sure would be convenient though since for example, I'm sick today and it's more comfortable to use the phone to do things than sit in front of the computer! So now there is one more great app as part of Voice Dream. H. btw, I tried to subscribe to this list using another address, the one that I use on the phone, and couldn't find the dash that would go before subscribe! Hello As those who are reading my posts know, I'm sorting through operating the 6 as well as reading about and trying to figure out how to use given apps. Since I hadn't read anything in depth on creating a playlist from my music library and moving it t the phone, I copied a bunch of music into Drop Box which comes up in Voice Dream. I'm not clear how Voice Dream works though I read the help file - only once. What is the best way to see everything in Drop box without having to look at that list of things that comes up when you open the app? For example, it says Folders, my folders, and other things but to get to Drop Box and Bookshare, you have to hit on the Add Tab. Is there a way to bypass that and have everything showing when you open up VD? Is that how the folders can be used? I'm having reading the Dresner files because I can't seem to get it to keep reading and hitting on net item means file. Something is set to 60 minute intervals but I can't see where to set it to just keep reading until I pause it. When I went to VD settings in Settings, it was empty, there was nothing to set and I believe that is due to the fact that there are options you can choose from within the app itself. I notice that people often send links to the links that are to podcasts on particular apps using vo. Someone sent a good one on downcast last week. Me again... What is happening in Drop Box with the music mp3 files is that when I hit on a song title it says download? When it finishes downloading all I have left is an ok button. From there I can't seem to activate anything. Then when I go back to the song title it asks to download the same song again. I do not understand this at all. All the songs have been uploaded and are up to date in Drop Box on the main computer, and I left the phone on all night, so what am I missing here? Chris Ok, but why after it says a song is downloaded can I not play it right there after hitting the ok button? Where does it put it? I'll try adding to favorites or maybe there is an option/tab for adding a particular song to a playlist. There is a Home button and if I remember correctly the scrub does not always work in Drop Box either. Am I correct in concluding that if I copy what I want to transfer using I tunes would simply keep it right there on the phone until I delete what I want to delete. I guess iCloud is not the way I want all the files loaded or stored. Do I really need I Cloud if I back up using the computer? Hi, You first have to go in to settings, tap on Dropbox and enter your dropbox details. After you have done this, Dropbox will show up in the add window. Hi, If you install Dropbox on a new computer, everything in your Dropbox folder will be copied to it automatically. If you are finished using Dropbox on your former computer, go to your account on the Dropbox website and unlink that computer from Dropbox. Then you can delete the folder without deleting your files from Dropbox. voice dream and drop box
Hi all, I have the voice dream app. On the voice dream ap underaccounts there's drop box and others. What I want to know is do I need to double tap on the drop box and sign up for drop box with a email address or do I get the drop box app for free? I don't have drop box and I want to learn how to use drop box on my voice dream. Is there a difference between the two? I want to put Lions documents from my computer on my voice dream in drop box I also would need help on how to use drop box because I never used it before and voice dream. Thanks for any help. Hi Lori, It really depends what you want to do with Dropbox. If you want it on your computer, I would suggest going to www.dropbox.com and installing Dropbox. YOu'll create a Dropbox account in the process. Then get the Dropbox app from the app store so you have it on your phone. Sign in using the same email address and password you created for the computer. Then choose Dropbox in Voice Dream Reader. I don't know whether you can create a Dropbox account from your phone, if you aren't planning to use it with a computer. If not, there's probably a way to create one on the website.
