2016-01-04 Thread Joe Orozco
Hi, can anyone recommend an accessible means of recording audio from
Skype calls on the iPad? Thanks in advance for any help.--Joe

Re: I'm stumped with listening to audio on the NFL Mobile app.

2016-01-04 Thread SoonerAnnie
Ditto!!! I wonder what happened all of a sudden when I couldn't get any games
yesterday! Fortunately, I was able to listen to the Eagles' last game via their
app, and was also able to get the Rams on the Pro Football app, but really
wanted to listen to the national broadcast of Vikings-Packers game last night.
Fortunately, we were able to get it on a local radio station, but hopefully
they can fix this mess before the playoffs begin! Ugh!

Here's the phone number for nfl.com

2016-01-04 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi.

Sounds like several of us are having problems accessing the audio feeds of the
NFL Mobile app. If anybody wants to call up nfl.com and let them know there's
a problem, here's the phone number

407-936-0867

As I said in a prior message, I've called the number, and I did get through,
but it was after being on hold for over 2 hours. I have other things going on
today, so I can't call them right now. If nobody else has called, I'll phone
them either tomorrow or Wednesday.

Uses of Workflow App?

2016-01-04 Thread Alan Lemly
Congratulations to Workflow for winning the AppleVis Golden Apple award for
the Best iOS App of 2015. I believe I've got a pretty good conceptual
understanding of this app which seems synonymous with macros in Excel or
keystroke macros in the earlier days of the personal computer. What I'm
having more difficulty with is coming up with how to practically use this
app on my iPhone so I thought I'd ask what others who are using it on this
list are using it for.

Thanks for any comments you're willing to share.

Re: Instant pot multi use appliance with accessible iPhone app

2016-01-04 Thread Penny Reeder
Thanks, Mary. My daughter and son-in-law cook perfect steel-cut oats
in their Japanese rice cooker. So, I bought a rice cooker several
years ago -- but a different kind, since I couldn't access the touch
cooking controls on their cooker with a dynamic display. Their rice
cooker has "fuzzy logic." Mine does not., and my oatmeal does not turn
out creamy and delicious like theirs!

So, I am curious as to how well the steel cut oats might turn out in
the InstantPot.

Thanks for the info.

Mary, thanks for the followup. I know that on the standard model, once

 Hi Rick,
I thought I would get back to you on the instant pot smart. The panel
 is
like yours. And the app seems very nice indeed. The recipes in it are
 very
few, although you can download scripts or write your own. There is
documentation for how to do that in a PDF file which I have not looked
 at
yet. Peering is a snap. The dashboard, where you control the cooker, is
totally accessible. The only thing I don't know, and that is because I
simply haven't done it yet, is whether you can manipulate the plus and
minus and adjust buttons using the app. And if you can, can you tell
 what
the settings are when you're done. I suspect it will work, since the
 other
settings work. You can see the temperature in the device, what is the
pressure, how much time is left. And of course you can activate the
preprograms things like rice etc. What gives me hope is that when you
 hit
a button, such as rice, it doesn't automatically start. On the screen
 that
comes up, you have to hit a start but for it to start. So the rise
 program
is automatic, no adjustments. But I'm thinking that with programs that
 do
allow adjustments, like stew, it should allow you to make adjustments.

By using the normal navigation to get to the folder and using VO+spacebar to
open the folder and the same keystroke to activate the app you want.
You can also press the up and down arrows together to activate an item.

Strange Behavior After Labeling a Folder

2016-01-04 Thread Ekstrand, Pamela A. -ND
Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone has run into the following and can give me any help in
fixing it.

I had created a folder on my iPad and did the two finger double tap and hold to
give it a custom label. The label I gave it was "Cooking". When I exited the
folder, I noticed it was now saying "Cooking" before saying the first app name
in other folders, before saying the name of the first app on my home sdcreen,
before saying "Page 1 of 4", etc. This behavior is now also happening on my
iPhone 6.

I tried deleting the label, removing the cooking folder, and restarting my
iPad, but nothing seems to help.

Can anyone tell me where I went wrong or how to fix this?

Thanks,
Pam

Thanks,
Pam

Re: Instant pot multi use appliance with accessible iPhone app

2016-01-04 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Penny,
I have kind of gotten away from so many grains, so I probably won't be doing
the steel cut oats so I won't be able to give you a first-hand report. There is
an extremely active Facebook group of instant pot users, some of whom have self
identified as blind folks. If you are on Facebook, as I know you are, and you
join that group, I bet you could put in a post about steel cut oats and see
what comes back.

Hi Alan.

If nothing else, I feel better that I’m not the only one having an issue with
the app. I do have a phone number for nfl.com, but last time I called that
number I was on hold for over two hours. I was hoping for another way to
contact them, but if not, I’ll call them up the next day or so. I’d call
today, but I have some things going on, and I don’t have time to wait. I’ll
let you know what I learn.

Any responses greatly appreciated. Thank you very much.

I have not found a reliable app that records voip calls except a jailbreak

You can get it by adding http://hacx.org/rep to your cydia sources and search
for super recorder. It costs around 4 dollars and is fully accessible.

Re: apple TV or google chromecast?Apple TV or Google Chromecast?

2016-01-04 Thread Wayne Merritt
Coming to this late due to being on vacation, but the other big thing
is that with ChromeCast ,you are limited to what you can do with the
service. However, with Apple TV, it looks like you have access to
everything and everything therefore speaks with VoiceOver. I don't
have either, though I have used Chromecast apps to cast things to my
in-laws' TV. I have also observed that I don't have that many apps
which can use Chromecast. My wife and I are highly considering getting
an Apple TV later in the year when our money evens out. It seems well
worth the cost.

Re: Benefits of Apple Watch

2016-01-04 Thread Woody Anna Dresner
Hi alan,

The analog clock faces include seconds, and the digital ones don't.

You can use quite a few functions without the phone, such as the stopwatch and
timer, and the clock. If your watch is in the vicinity of a Wi-Fi network you
have connected to with your phone, it can connect to that network to do things
like notifications and iMessage.

Best,
Anna

If you choose the temperature as one of the complications on your watch,
you can go to your clock face screen and turn the digital crown. The time

 I hope that helps.

Re: Uses of Workflow App?

2016-01-04 Thread Gordan Radić

Hi!
I was fortunate enough to get this app as a gift on Applevises fifth
birthday lottery because I wanted to check out what I can do with
it. My primary goal was to create contact icons on the homescreen so
I can dial them right from there and I found the way to do that,
thanks to Workflow Gallery feature with shared and predefined
workflows.
As I was exploring the functions I found many ways to use it but
nothing I really need. For example, you can create a workflow with
which you can:
1. take a photo;
2. share it on Facebook;
3. copy it to DropBox and share the link to it via e-mail.
So, when you have your workflow set you activate it's icon, camera
is beeing opened and after you take a shot the Post to Facebook
screen opens with the photo you took attached. You Enter the message
or whatever and hit Post. After that the photo you took is beeing
uploaded to Dropbox and the new mail window opens with the link to
the photo already inserted in the message body so you just need to
enter the recepient and subject line and hit send.
You can perform loads of tasks like this one but only if you have a
serious need for them. I personally never share photos on FB or
sharing DB links to my photos on regular basis so I can do it
manually from time to time but for someone who's crazy about
shooting ans sharing this could be really helpful. I'm happy with
the speed dial feature.

Thanks for the explanation.

Does anyone know how I can fix this? No matter what I do, I can't seem to

You don't need to do the two-finger double-tap and hold. Just Open the folder
as usual, then do a double-tap and hold on one of the apps in the folder.
You'll enter editing mode. Find the folder name, and double-tap it. A keyboard
will appear, which will let you edit the name. The command you were trying to
use is the one that lets you put a label only for VoiceOver users on unlabeled
buttons or images in apps.

Thanks,

Hi All,

I am wondering if anyone has run into the following and can give me any help
in fixing it.

I had created a folder on my iPad and did the two finger double tap and hold
to give it a custom label. The label I gave it was "Cooking". When I
exited the folder, I noticed it was now saying "Cooking" before saying the
first app name in other folders, before saying the name of the first app on
my home sdcreen, before saying "Page 1 of 4", etc. This behavior is now
also happening on my iPhone 6.

I tried deleting the label, removing the cooking folder, and restarting my
iPad, but nothing seems to help.

Can anyone tell me where I went wrong or how to fix this?

Thanks,
Pam

Have you contacted Game Pass tech support or customer service through the web
site. I had accessibility issues with NBA.COM and their app, and got good
results using this route.

I’ll
let you know what I learn.

email problem

2016-01-04 Thread Paul and Paula Jordan
Hi, all. I am unable to re-subscribe to the viPhone list after coming back
from vacation. I've tried following the clear directions Sieghard sent in a
previous email, but can't find the buttons that should be on the googlegroup
website. I would very much like to be re-instated to the list. If anyone
can help could you please email me at pau...@roadrunner.com. I tried
contacting both Cara and Sieghard to see if they could help, but haven't
heard back from either of them. Hopefully they are both out of email range
and I haven't inadvertently done something to screw up my googlegroup
settings so that emails won't come from the group even to my personal email.
Hopefully someone will at least send me an email so I can be assured that I
didn't do something totally stupid.

Hope this all makes sense. I miss learning new information from the group.

God bless!

Paula and Boston

I was able to send my issue with the NFL Mobile app through the contact form on nfl.com

2016-01-04 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi again.

I decided to try to use the NFL.COM site to contact them about my issue of not
being able to hear audio feeds of games in the NFL Mobile app. I rebooted the
PC and tried again, and this time it worked. If anyone else wants to send
feedback about this, here's what to do.

Go to

http://nfl.com

and if you're not signed in, do that. Then select the Contact Us link. Now, I
can't remember if I had to select a second Contact Us link, but if so, do it.
Then, go to where it asks you what you need help with. This is a list of
items, and in Internet Explorer 11 and JAWS 17, they are just lines of text, no
links. Look for NFL Mobile, and press ENTER on it. You'll then be on the
contact form for NFL Mobile. Look for the heading for this item, and fill out
the form. There are three edit boxes on it, and JAWS didn't tell me what each
one was for. I figured out what goes into them. Get to the first one, and
enter your name. Next, hit TAB to get to the second, and enter your email
address. Then TAB to the last edit box and enter your feedback/comments.
Finally, TAB to the SUBMIT button and press ENTER to activate it.

That's all there is to it. I'm happy that I don't have to wait for a couple
hours to talk to someone at NFL.COM.

I hope this helps, and I did mention that there were several of us having this
issue. If you want to send in similar feedback, feel free to do so. This way
they'll have messages from several of us.

Have a good day, and don't work too hard.

Kindle ap question

2016-01-04 Thread denise colley
When I first purchase a kindle book I tell it to go to my iphone. I
currently have all of my kindle books in archives and download a few to read
at a time. After reading the book it goes back into archives if I swipe
down. However, there deson't seem to be any notation on the archives list
that the book has been read. Is there any way of deleting the book from my
phone but not from my kindle library, or somewhere else I can send the book
once read so I can keep it but not get confused?

RE: Instant pot multi use appliance with accessible iPhone app

2016-01-04 Thread Rick Alfaro
Mary, thanks for the followup. I know that on the standard model, once you
choose a preset like rice, you have several seconds to make any adjustments
before it will start on its own. By adjustments, I mean plus or minus the
default time for the preset. Hopefully, the app will do the same, giving you
time to make any changes. For the most part, since I've been pressure
cookingfor some time now, I usually use the manual setting and don't use the
presets all that much.

Best regards,

Rick Alfaro

Hi Rick,
I thought I would get back to you on the instant pot smart. The panel is like
yours. And the app seems very nice indeed. The recipes in it are very few,
although you can download scripts or write your own. There is documentation for
how to do that in a PDF file which I have not looked at yet. Peering is a snap.
The dashboard, where you control the cooker, is totally accessible. The only
thing I don't know, and that is because I simply haven't done it yet, is
whether you can manipulate the plus and minus and adjust buttons using the app.
And if you can, can you tell what the settings are when you're done. I suspect
it will work, since the other settings work. You can see the temperature in the
device, what is the pressure, how much time is left. And of course you can
activate the preprograms things like rice etc. What gives me hope is that when
you hit a button, such as rice, it doesn't automatically start. On the screen
that comes up, you have to hit a start but for it to start. So the rise program
is automatic, no adjustments. But I'm thinking that with programs that do allow
adjustments, like stew, it should allow you to make adjustments.

Cancelling an order from amazon.ca

2016-01-04 Thread Eva Abbas

Hi listers,

I hope everybody is doing well. I made an order through amazon.ca of a
bluetooth keyboard and two games for my nephew. All three items should have
cost me 155 Canadian dollars. I don't know what happened, but they sent me
a confirmation e-mail message of a total of 249 Canadian dollars. I went to
cancel the order right away. It said that I could not cancel because the
order has already been shipped. I was asked to contact the seller. To my
knowledge, amazon.ca is the seller. How do I contact them? I don't want to
pay this huge amount of money.

Thanks for any help

Re: Benefits of Apple Watch

2016-01-04 Thread Alan Paganelli
'm slowly learning about my iWatch but then again, I'v only had it sense
Christmas. My watch keeps showing me the time in Cupertino. Lucky for me,
that's also the time in Las Vegas. However, I would like to ditch Cupertino
and replace it with Las Vegas. And lastly, somehow I'v enabled time to show
seconds I.E. 1239 and 49 seconds. How can I get my watch to ditch the seconds?
I don't need that much information. My wife just asked me to ask all of you
what happens for example if I left my phone home but put my iWatch on my wrist.
I said my guess is as soon as you got a certain distance from your iPhone,
your watch would disconnect. So I now have a question of my own. Would the
time still be displayed?

Thanks in advance and Happy 2016 to you all!

Re: Instant pot multi use appliance with accessible iPhone app

2016-01-04 Thread Mary Otten
Hi Rick,
The rice program is the only one which according to the manual, does not allow
for any adjustment. You just put your rice and your liquid in, hit the button
and go away. And then of course you come back and don't let it sit on warm too
long.

RE: Cancelling an order from amazon.ca

2016-01-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Chris and Eva,

Not sure, Chris, why you provided the link for the chargeback topic. A
Chargeback is not something anybody should ever do unless their credit card was
used fraudulently, for example, if you suddenly see a purchase on your credit
card for an item you yourself did not purchase. Chargebacks are investigated by
credit card companies and whoever the merchant is will be contacted by the
credit card company to provide proof of purchase. If you simply purchased
something you no longer want and use the chargeback option and the seller then
proves that you legitimately purchased the item and it was shipped and
delivered then this can get you into a fair bit of trouble. Amazon has very
good processes in place for doing returns and I have never been charged for
something I didn't order. What Eva describes was probably a mistake on her end
where something was still in the card which she added previously or maybe she
clicked the add to card button twice which does put an item in the cart twice.
If I go to a store and accidently buy two of an item which I only wanted one of
I have to take one of them back and ask to get a refund, I can't just call the
credit card company and ask them to process a chargeback. It sounds like what
Eva ordered was fulfilled by Amazon which makes returns even easier since she
doesn't have to contact a third-party seller to see if their return policy
allows for a return.

Regards,
Sieghard

Hi Aleen,

As far as when you leave your phone home, yes the time will still display.

You can change the face on your watch by force touching after the time
displays. Now you can change the face to something like modular that only
displays the time.

Re: Benefits of Apple Watch

2016-01-04 Thread Chris Chaffin

As far as Cupertino, unfortunately, there is nothing you can do about this.
For some reason, some Apple devices focus on Cupertino when you are in the
Pacific Time Zone instead of your actual location. I have read articles where
other devices like iPads also do the same thing.

As far as the seconds displaying on your watch face, this is determined by the
clock face you have chosen. To change clock faces, just press down with one
finger when on your clock face. When the screen appears, you can flick left
and right through the different clock faces. When you have found the one you
want, first flick down with one finger and double tap on customize to choose
what complications you want to appear on your clock face. On the complications
screen, you can flick down on each complication to change it to what you want
each one to be, like current temperature, next calendar event, battery level,
and so on. Once you have your complications set, just press the crown to go
back to the clock face screen. You should land back on the clock face you had
chosen. Just flick down to activate to set your clock face and land back on
your clock face. Now everything should be as you just set it.

As far as being out of range of your phone, your time will still display. You
will just not get notifications, and some of your complications like next
calendar event and some apps on your watch might not work since they sync to
your phone to get the necessary information.

I hope all of this helps!! I learned a lot by listening to the AppleVis
podcast about the different functions of the watch.

AppleVis Golden Apples for 2015

2016-01-04 Thread Richard Turner

FYI. I copied this from their web site to save others having to find it.

Golden Apples of 2015

Submitted by AppleVis on 28 December, 2015 - 05:44

We are pleased to announce the results of the fourth annual AppleVis Golden
Apple Awards.

Since their launch in 2012, the AppleVis Golden Apple Awards have afforded
blind and low vision users an opportunity to recognize and acknowledge the
hard work and dedication which developers have put into making great and
accessible iOS and OS X applications during the given year.

To be shortlisted for this year's Golden Apple Awards, apps must:

* Be fully accessible to blind and low vision users.

* Have been launched or significantly updated during 2015.

* Be from a developer with a demonstrated and long-term commitment
to full accessibility.

* Demonstrate excellence in design, functionality and operation.

Candidates for Developer of the Year must:

* Have a long-standing, exemplary commitment to making their apps
fully accessible to blind and low vision users.

* Be receptive and responsive to the needs of blind and low vision
users in a timely manner.

* Have delivered significant new features or updates to their app(s)
during 2015, particularly updates which directly benefit blind and low
vision users.

The 2015 AppleVis Golden Apples consist of awards in five categories:

* Best iOS App

* Best iOS Game

* Best Assistive iOS App

* Best Mac App

* Developer of the Year

For the Best iOS App of 2015, the AppleVis community chose Workflow:
Powerful Automation Made Simple
. Perhaps not surprising as Workflow has already won an Apple
Design Award this year for it's VoiceOver support and been rated an App
Store Best of 2015.

1Password - Password Manager and Secure Wallet
took second place, and Overcast: Podcast Player
  came third.

In the closest ever vote in the history of these Awards, Dice World - Dice
with Friends!
took the Golden Apple for Best iOS Game of 2015. A Blind
Legend
followed as a very close second, and Blindfold Bowling
was just a handful of votes further back in third place.

In a landslide vote, the AppleVis community voted KNFBReader
Best Assistive iOS App of 2015. BlindSquare
took second place, and Be My Eyes - helping blind see
 placed third.

Audio Hijack was voted as the best Mac app of
2015 by a wide margin. 1Password - Password Manager and Secure Wallet
  came in second, and LaunchBar
  placed third.

Kid Friendly Software (Creator of the
'Blindfold' series of iOS audio games) was voted as the Developer of the
Year, with MIPsoft (Creator of BlindSquare) and
DeskConnect, Inc. (Creator of Workflow - Powerful
Automation Made Simple) rounding out the top three.

We would like to extend our congratulations to the winners of the 2015
AppleVis Golden Apple Awards and to wish everyone a happy and safe new year
and a prosperous 2016.

About the Apps and Developer Chosen as the 2015 AppleVis Golden Apples

Workflow: Powerful Automation Made Simple

Workflow won an Apple Design Award at this year's Worldwide Developers'
Conference (WWDC). These prestigious awards acknowledge the mobile and
desktop apps which raise the bar in design, technology and innovation. In
the case of Workflow, the award specifically recognized its accessibility
with VoiceOver
 . According to Apple
's own report on the 2015
Design Awards:

Workflow is a powerful automation tool, available exclusively for iPhone and
Apple Watch, that connect apps and actions together to automate things you
do every day. Selected as an Apple Design Award winner for its outstanding
use of iOS accessibility features, Workflow delivers an excellent
implementation for VoiceOver with clearly

Re: Apple Watch Question

2016-01-04 Thread Chris Chaffin

Actually there is two apps that have watch support that will allow you to
access your reminders.
One is Due, and it will import reminders from the reminders app, and has a lot
of other functions.

The second one is called One List. And all it does is mirrors your Reminders
in the reminders app. It is simple, and once synced to the reminders app,
there is nothing else to do in the app.

Both apps can be used as glances on your watch.
I like the One List app because of its simplicity and it does exactly what I
want. I can use Siri on my watch and set a reminder without a problem.
I use the One List glance to access my reminders on my watch.

If anyone has any questions about these apps, I will do my best to answer them.
I hope all of this helps.

I just wanted to let you know that the Instant pot is most definitely
very useable by a blind person. I use mine at least once or twice a
week. I simply made a Braille chart of the various buttons along with
what they are and their default cook times. I keep this taped to the
inside of a cabinet door just above the Instant Pot for easy reference.
In addition, this cooker also has plus and minus buttons as well as a
manual setting which I actually prefer so you can set your own cooking

RE: Cancelling an order from amazon.ca

2016-01-04 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Hi Eva,

You probably added something to the cart twice or maybe you added something to
your cart another time and it was still there. If you look at your confirmation
email you should find a listing of exactly what you ordered.
If the order has already shipped then the amount has already been charged to
your credit card and there is little you can do at this point except wait for
the order and then return it. Keep in mind you can't just send it back, you
have to go on the Amazon website, locate the order in your order history and
then click the "return" button to initiate a return. If Amazon has fulfilled
the order and it wasn't shipped directly from a third party, then this is very
easy and painless, you even get return shipping labels most likely from Canada
Post and all you have to do is print them out and put them on the return box,
then drop it off at a post office.
You could also ask if they can process the return and email you the labels by
calling Amazon.ca customer service. I never tried it because it's very
accessible to do it on the website, but doing a Google search for "Customer
service phone number for Amazon.ca" gave me the number in the first search
result:
You can still call us the old-fashioned way at 1-877-586-3230.

Good luck,
Sieghard

Subject: Cancelling an order from amazon.ca

Hi listers,

I hope everybody is doing well. I made an order through amazon.ca of a
bluetooth keyboard and two games for my nephew. All three items should have
cost me 155 Canadian dollars. I don't know what happened, but they sent me a
confirmation e-mail message of a total of 249 Canadian dollars. I went to
cancel the order right away. It said that I could not cancel because the order
has already been shipped. I was asked to contact the seller. To my knowledge,
amazon.ca is the seller. How do I contact them? I don't want to pay this huge
amount of money.
Thanks for any help

haven't looked to see what setting they use. There's also a rice setting. So
the short answer is, I am sure it is possible to cook porridge, but you do have
to be careful about foaming.

Thanks, Rick. I wish I had known this earlier. There was a big sale on
the regular instant pot before Christmas. And I was looking into
purchasing it, but then I read an article that seemed to indicate that
there was a touch screen on the front. So that made it sound like it was
not going to work too well for a totally blind person. I've never
actually seen one. I guess I will have to keep looking for a sale.
