RE: Phones manufactured.

2020-05-05 Thread Simon A Fogarty
Hi,

Look does it really matter where devices are made?

Cloths are made in Asian countries also,
And if we start complaining where these devices are made

And the creation locations change then that means people in those initial
countries lose jobs,
Prices go up for the devices,
Everyone needs to live and these devices being created in china gives the
Chinese a chance to earn and live.

I totally agree. Prior to becoming an iPhone user I would have to purchase an
external software to download to my phone so that I could then only have access
to some of the phone's features. That software was almost $300. This was $300
after first having purchased the phone. Now my iPhone comes equipped right from
the box with what I need to operate it independent of any external software or
add-ons. This has changed my life and has allowed me to do so much
independently and now I don't have to ask for assistance from someone else to
get things done. Yes, there will be glitches but I can live through them.

Honestly, I personally could care less where my iPhone was made. All I know is
how much easier my life has become since I purchased and learned to use my
iPhone. It is so much fun to be able to not only make phone calls to do things
like order pizza which I did a few hours ago, but to also listen to books, send
text messages, and listen to OTR shows, listen to music, and to read Ebooks. I
know people are concerned because of the Virus, but that isn't a good enough
reason to give up your iPhone.

2020-05-05 Thread chaltain
Not that it's important, but although google is an American company, none of
it's phones are manufactured in America. Similarly, Samsung is a South Korean
company, but has manufacturing plants in Vietnam. HTC is Taiwanese. Huawei is
Chinese and has most of their manufacturing in china. Nokia phones are now from
HMD Global, which is a Finnish company but has manufacturing in china, Vietnam
and so on.

Hi,

Look does it really matter where devices are made?

Cloths are made in Asian countries also, And if we start complaining where
these devices are made

And the creation locations change then that means people in those initial
countries lose jobs, Prices go up for the devices, Everyone needs to live and
these devices being created in china gives the Chinese a chance to earn and
live.

RE: Mail App and a Notes Folder

I guess you asked Siri to launch notes? I wouldn't want to just depend on that
and not know where Notes was located, but, you might be able to open it that
way, at least. Not the best work around in the world, but a matter of taking
what you might be able to get.

Hi All,

My better half & I upgraded to the new SE 2020 iPhone today. Well, in the Mail
app I had a folder called, Notes , on the old SE that didn't transfer over to
the new SE. But, for the life of me I don't recall if I created this folder or
if it was already there! I tried creating this folder again, but it says it
already exists, so it can't be created, but it's not showing in the folder
list. I noticed a, Notes, folder somewhere's in a Mail App setting, but now I
can't find that booger again, and now I'm not exactly sure where I saw it the
first time!

If anyone knows where I'm screwing up, would you please give me a real hard
kick in the right direction?! This damn dual tasking, you know breating and
setting up an iPhone, is enough to make me want to drink some sanitizer, but
not this, 60 proof weak crap, but the kind with a hell of a lot more kick than

Braille device question.

2020-05-05 Thread Malcolm Parfitt
Hello,

Firstly I have never used a Braille display with an iPhone but I am trying
to help a friend to do so.

I'm not sure whether he has tried to pair the display via the usual
Bluetooth route rather than via Voiceover there are no entries for the
device on the iPhone.

When we try to pair via Voiceover and Braille Apex is shown as expected and
entering the code we are presented with a message that Pairing was
unsuccessful make sure Apex is ready.

I read the following from Applevis.

If you run out of time when typing the code, just try again. After three
attempts, you

will not be able to keep trying. To fix this, return to settings, general,
and this time

select Bluetooth. From there, select the Apex, then double tap the "forget
this device"

button. This should let you try three more times to pair, as instructed
above.

If the Apex does not appear when you scan for braille displays, check that
your Apex's

name is set properly (described above), make sure that Bluetooth is enabled
on both

devices, make sure that the Apex is in terminal mode, and make sure that you
had not

already tried several unsuccessful pairing attempts (you must forget the
Apex, as

described in the previous list item, if this is the case). Also, you must
not have used the

Apex's connectivity menu to try to pair or activate anything on the iTouch.
If you have

done this, you must remove pairing and deactivate all services from the
Apex's

Bluetooth menu, as described in the Apex manual.

Unfortunately I don't have access to the manual or the device so don't know
how to remove pairing and deactivate all services from the Apex's

Bluetooth menu.

Any help welcome.

one thing to check, have you noticed if in the mail app, your account is
listed twice?

One that says collapsed?

If so, double tap so it is expanded, and the subfolders will show up.

At least, that is how I get my outlook folders to show up.

are buying and discarding whenever we don't like them any more or see something
we like better affect the quality of life of the people in the countries where
they are made. We all want cheap, cheap and, even better, cheaper, big
corporations like Walmart, Target and others are happy to supply all this cheap
stuff and they are looking where they can make it cheapest; I mean, who cares

Hi,

Look does it really matter where devices are made?

Cloths are made in Asian countries also, And if we start complaining where
these devices are made

And the creation locations change then that means people in those initial
countries lose jobs, Prices go up for the devices, Everyone needs to live and
these devices being created in china gives the Chinese a chance to earn and
live.

RE: What apps do you love on apple tv

2020-05-05 Thread Larry Lumpkin
Hi. Here are some apple tv 4 apps I like:

1. Spectrum tv. Spectrum calls their app "Born Accessible" because it was
supposedly built with accessibility from the ground up. It works very well and
is indeed very accessible.

2. Pandora. Pandora is very accessible once installed and configured but you
may need sighted assistance to get it going. I did.

My Tuner Pro. This is an internet radio station tuner and is very accessible.
It costs about $4 but is worth it.

You might consider purchasing the apple tv 4 tutorial from Mystic Access. It
costs $40 or so but is well worth the cost.

Hi I just ordered a new Apple tv 4th generation.
I am wondering what apps and games you all like and if there is a list of
accessible apps somewhere.
Is there anything in particular I need to know about setting up this device
other than the usual stuff.
Thanks.

Mail rules on IOS

2020-05-05 Thread Ibraheem Fakir
Hey List,

Finding myself subscribed to so many awesome lists, my inbox is growing super
crowded. Any tips on how to setup rules on my iPhone to organize messages from
various email groups land in specified mailboxes? I find that I’m having the
same issue with my inbox on the native mail app on my MacBook Air. If I setup
rules on my MacBook Air will they carry over to my iPhone? Any walk throughs on
how to get this done is super appreciated.

All best,
Ibraheem

At this time, you cannot set up rules on the iPhone.
If you can set them up on your Mac, maybe the folders will show up on your
iPhone. Not sure, but it would be worth a try.
I don't use a Mac so cannot help there.

Yes iPhones are made in china but so is most of the technology these days,

one thing to check, have you noticed if in the mail app, your account is

One that says collapsed?
If so, double tap so it is expanded, and the subfolders will show up.
At least, that is how I get my outlook folders to show up.

Re: What apps do you love on apple tv

2020-05-05 Thread Wayne Merritt
One app I got when I had my Apple TV was Super Trivia Challenge. It is
very accessible, and looks similar to Jeopardy with the categories and
point values for each row. Then you choose 1 of 4 possible answers for
each question. Unlike Jeopardy, the questions have answers, verses the
reverse. It was free in the App Store. I also remember another free
one called something like Fireplace, which was just the picture and
sound of a fireplace. Pretty calming and relaxing though.

Enjoy,
Wayne

You are absolutely correct, it's fine for a phone to be made in China or India
or wherever, but you are not correct in saying that we have no control over
what working conditions are in place there. Investigative reports have exposed
such horrible places often enough or you hear about some tragedy like that fire
in a clothing factory in Bangladesh some years ago after which some pretty
horrific details came to light about the conditions there and the companies who
had clothing made there. We can demand from our companies to set certain
standards and, if they don't do so, buy products from a company which does. We
live in a global economy and that will not change despite America's current
phase of protectionism, it happened before after all, but it's up to every
person to set standards for themselves and to expect others with whom we deal
whether on a personal level or for the products we buy to also have standards.
It's not OK to say "Give me a $299 iPhone and I really don't care how you do it
and whether half the components are made by kids who are paid a few cents a
day". Fortunately Apple does have standards and if companies do then it may
indeed be a blessing if they go to China, India, Vietnam, the Philippines or
wherever to make their products, they can still do so cheaper than with lavbour
costs here and yet the workers there make a decent living. It's no different
with call centers, people often complain about agents who have accents because
they are in India or the Philippines, but I doubt those same people would want
to pay 50% more for whatever service because the call centers are in the US
where the wages are much higher let alone finding enough people for the work.

You know, my case is pretty thick too. I think the one with the lanyard, even

Also that the thicker the back of the case the less likely the wifi charging is
going to work as it can't get the charge through the back of the case / phone.

horrific details came to light about the conditions there and the companies who
had clothing made there.

Also that the thicker the back of the case the less likely the wifi charging is

Hi all,

Does anyone know about any durable case for an iPhone SE 2nd generation.

It must have a hole in the case to atatch a lanyard.

Many thanks,

2020-05-05 Thread Wayne Merritt
I don't use a Mac either. However, I do have many rules, or filters,
setup in my Gmail account. Gmail's labels feature is not quite like
folders or inboxes in other email programs, but the same result is
achieved. When I open my mail in the iOS Mail account, all of the same
filters/rules are applied just like I set them up on the computer. If
I delete a message with a label on my phone, it will also be deleted
from the web interface on the computer.

Re: Braille device question.

Hi Malcolm,

Have you tried restarting both devices? Also, if they have ever installed other
braille displays, try forgetting them from VoiceOver/Braille Settings, as the
iPhone often has trouble connecting with one display if it's also connected to
others. Resetting the phone may also help.

Best,
Anna

RE: Phones manufactured.

2020-05-05 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
