#2 Question on Libre 2 App

2021-10-07 Thread Vivian Conger
I forgot in my previous message to ask. Does the app need to be running all
the time or can it be closed and still function?

This is a sweet little system.

Re: Libre 2 and iPhone

2021-10-07 Thread Joney Owen
When you tap on the menu item up in the left-hand corner, when your finger down
and it is just above logbook. Or just after logbook. It says alarms. You go in
there and change them. You cannot change the lowest one. The others you can
change.

Many thanks to all those who commented on this thread a couple of weeks ago.

Well I replaced the sensor today and got it pared with my phone
successfully. Yeah! No more Voice Dream Scanner having to scan the reader.

I do have a question though. Where do you find the settings for Libre 2 so
that I can set alarms for a low and a high reading?

Many thanks again.

RE: iPhone 13 Pro Thoughts after a couple weeks

2021-10-07 Thread Richard Turner
They put it under Accessibility settings, Display and Text size. Don’t ask me
why.
Under there, you have Bold text,Larger text, button shapes, on/off labels,
reduce transparentcy, increase contrast, Differentiate without color, Smart
Invert, Classic invert, Color filters, Reduce White Point, and finally, Auto
Brightness.
Turn that on,

Then, after you have had the screen curtain on for a while, I’m not sure how
long exactly, if you go to the regular settings, display and brightness, it
should be at zero.

HTH,

iPhone 13 Pro, 256 GB, Sierra Blue (not that the color matters.)
ESR clear case.

I received the phone on September 25th.
I've already mentioned in a previous note about the setup process so won't
repeat that here.

First of all, I like the phone very much. I like the size, I have no issues
with the gestures to unlock, go home, do the app switcher, control center, or
notification center, and no issues with Face ID.
Compared to the SE 2020 it replaced, the sound is amazing!

It is faster in downloading things like BARD Books, though since they put their
library on the Cloud, it is pretty darn fast even on a first generation SE; but
noticeably faster on this phone than even the SE 2020.

The battery life is truly excellent! I wanted to wait until I had used it over
a period of a week or two to say anything about the battery.
I have had several days where I used the phone for a lot of hours, 8 or more,
for playing music, streaming videos, reading and writing emails, reading the
news, exploring settings, etc. I can easily get the bulk of two days use
before putting it on the charger at night.
I use the screen curtain all the time. I have brightness set to auto, so when
I check it, it is always at 0; and since having the brightness very low saves
battery life, this could be a big help in this area. I usually will turn
VoiceOver off if someone needs to see the screen, so when I turn VoiceOver back
on, the screen curtain is in place. Once in a while I just toggle off the
screen curtain; but I have to remember to toggle it back on when they are done.

A side note about the charger; when I was helping a friend with her iPhone 12
Pro purchase at the Verizon store, the MagSafe Apple wireless chargers were on
sale for $30; so I got one. They are only safe on the 12 and 13 iPhones. My
friend got one as well. It works great! The phone charges in 2 to 3 hours
from under 10% to full.

The Lidar Sensor works quite well with Seeing AI's World channel, but they need
to increase the number of objects it recognizes, which they are working on.

Super Lidar, the free app from SuperSense has a very useful feature if you
travel alone and have either a way to wear the phone with the camera facing
forward, or are comfortable holding it with the camera facing forward. It
identifies people, and if they have no mask, it says "Person without a mask" or
something like that.
That kicks in when they are getting close to you.
In Super Lidar, the proximity sensor vibrates faster as you get nearer an
object, so I could see it helping when in line at a store or somewhere, to know
if the person ahead of you has moved up in the line.

I have not taken it for a walk as yet, but while riding in a car, GoodMaps
Outdoors, does a great job of keeping up with intersection announcements. I
think the processor speed may help there but I have not tried GoodMaps Outdoors
on any other device.

OCR with Voice Dream Scanner, Seeing AI, SuperSense are all excellent of course.

That is about all I have to say at this point. Feel free to ask about anything
I have not mentioned.

Good question.
I forgot to mention that.
It seems more responsive.
Whether that is the better processor or the screen that is designed to be more
responsive, I won’t take a guess at.
My experience thus far though, is VO is more responsive, but not too much so as
to be a problem.

hi, what about voiceOver performance? is it any faster than your previous SE?
is it more responsive? or it is just the same.
Thanks

Yeah I have tried but with total sight loss
The term pushing sh*t up hill with a tooth pick comes to mind.

If you have some sight then you might find it better to use but I know I got
rid of the pencil quickly after figuring out it didn’t work for me.

It’s to me a nice idea but without being able to see the places you need to
touch or sketch / draw
It’s not an easy option.

But hey I’m only one perso.

IMO, Tap to Wake under Accessibility/Touch, is also a big battery
waster. If left on, each time you touch the phone or if it rubs

Re: #2 Question on Libre 2 App

2021-10-07 Thread Joney Owen
The aunt needs to stay open all the time. When you go into your app switcher
you can shut everything else down, but that one Hass to stay open. And anytime
you turn off your phone, you have to go ahead and re-open the app when you turn
it back on. Scan your sensor each time you do, and it’s a happy camper.

hi, what about voiceOver performance? is it any faster than your previous SE?
is it more responsive? or it is just the same.

iPhone 13 Pro Thoughts after a couple weeks

2021-10-07 Thread Richard Turner
iPhone 13 Pro, 256 GB, Sierra Blue (not that the color matters.)

RE: #2 Question on Libre 2 App

2021-10-07 Thread Vivian Conger
I’m not using the receiver anymore if I don’t have to do so.

I have my phone with me and always on unless I do a shut down due to an issue
or it just seems to be time to reboot the phone.

Thanks for the info on the Menu. My FS Libre has 70 as a low, 55 as an extreme
low, and 240 as a high.

It is so nice to not have to do the process I had to do before the ability to
use the phone.

Again many thanks to all.

IMO, Tap to Wake under Accessibility/Touch, is also a big battery waster. If
left on, each time you touch the phone or if it rubs against your pocket, it
will wake up. Some like it on, so to each their own. I believe Tap to Wake is
specific to the iPhone 10 series and later.

RE: blindsquare developer's contact information needed

2021-10-07 Thread Richard Turner
I will check, but did you go into your App store My Account and select
purchased, then not on this iPhone, and search for Blindsquare there. If you
are on the same ID, it should just redownload.
There may be a restore purchase in the BlindSquare settings once you have it
retrieved from your prior purchases.

But, write to: supp...@blindsquare.com

RE: iPhone 13 Pro Thoughts after a couple weeks

2021-10-07 Thread Carolyn
Richard, it sounds good about your nice, blue phone, that you got on my dad's
birthday. It sounds especially good about the sensor. That will be a giant step
for me, when I get my 13, for coming out of church.

Subject: iPhone 13 Pro Thoughts after a couple weeks

iPhone 13 Pro, 256 GB, Sierra Blue (not that the color matters.)

Many thanks to all those who commented on this thread a couple of weeks ago.

Well I replaced the sensor today and got it pared with my phone successfully.
Yeah! No more Voice Dream Scanner having to scan the reader.

I do have a question though. Where do you find the settings for Libre 2 so
that I can set alarms for a low and a high reading?

Many thanks again.

RE: iPhone 13 Pro Thoughts after a couple weeks

Subject: iPhone 13 Pro Thoughts after a couple weeks

iPhone 13 Pro, 256 GB, Sierra Blue (not that the color matters.)

RE: My iPhone5S Changing Home!

2021-10-07 Thread Simon A Fogarty
That’s a great way to share the apple knowledge / learning around.
Just make sure you do actually wipe it back to factory defaults.

You don’t want to go giving away a phone with personal data still existing on
it.

Even though it’s a friend,
The phone could end up anywhere.

So wipe it!

And also this gives your friend a base to start with and learn how to setup the
phone from scratch.

Good luck.

How to Turn Off 120Hz on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max

2021-10-07 Thread Dennis Long
Taken from the link at the end of the post.

How to Turn Off 120Hz on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max

  BY HAMLIN
ROZARIOPUBLISHED 4 DAYS AGO

The 120Hz ProMotion display looks amazing on the iPhone 13 Pro lineup, but
it also drains the battery faster. Here's how to drop back down to 60Hz.

 Apple

Apple's iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max are the company's first
smartphones with high refresh rate displays. At 120Hz, everything from
scrolling through the UI to playing fast-paced games feels buttery smooth.
However, it comes at the cost of your battery performance.

While the entire iPhone 13 lineup already offers incredible battery life,
you can extend it further on the Pro models by limiting the refresh rate to
60Hz. Fortunately, Apple makes this easy to do so. Here, we'll look at how
you can disable 120Hz on your iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.

Disable 120Hz on the iPhone 13 Pro in Accessibility Settings

Apple has hidden the option to turn off high refresh rate in the iOS
Accessibility settings. Follow these simple instructions to disable 120Hz
ProMotion on your iPhone:

1. Head over to Settings on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down and tap on Accessibility.
3. Next, select Motion, which is located under the Vision category.
4. In this menu, you'll find an option called Limit Frame Rate. Use the
toggle to turn it on.

Image Gallery (3 Images)

You've now successfully disabled 120Hz on your iPhone 13 Pro. If you're
someone who likes to switch between 60Hz and 120Hz modes based on your
battery level, you may find this method inconvenient. In that case, you can
follow the alternate method below.

RELATED: 60Hz Vs. 120Hz: Can You
Really Tell The Difference?

Limit the Refresh Rate to 60Hz With Low Power Mode

Apple's popular Low Power mode makes it really easy to limit your screen's
refresh rate to 60Hz. If you've never used Low Power mode before, here's
what you need to do:

1. Go to Settings on your iPhone.
2. Scroll down and select Battery.
3. Here, you'll find the toggle for Low Power Mode at the top.
4. Alternatively, you can toggle Low Power Mode from the iOS Control
Center. Simply swipe down from the upper-right corner of the screen and tap
on the Battery toggle. You may need to enable this in the Control Center
settings if you can't find it.

Image Gallery (3 Images)

Whether you disable 120Hz using Low Power mode or Accessibility settings,
the end result is the same. Your iPhone's ProMotion display will still
fluctuate between 10Hz and 60Hz, depending on the content you're viewing.

READ MORE: What Does Your
IPhone's Low Power Mode Do?

Extend Your iPhone 13 Pro's Battery Performance With 60Hz

We don't doubt that 120Hz is pure eye-candy, but if you play a lot of games
or scroll around too much, it can negatively impact your battery life.
Hence, limiting the refresh rate to 60Hz can go a long way in boosting your
iPhone's screen-on time. Sure, it's not for everyone, but at least you have
the option when you really need that last bit of battery life.

Then go to Settings > General > Reset and choose to Erase all content and reset

Once you accept this everything will be erased and the phone is set back to
factory settings, if you give it to a blind user they can press the home button
3 times to start Voiceover and end up at the same "Hello" message in multiple
languages which you get when you get a brand new iPhone and they can set it up

A friend in Pakistan is an avid Android user and he wants to try iPhone. I

Once you accept this everything will be erased and the phone is set back to

activating MBraille on a new IPhone

2021-10-07 Thread Paula Jordan
Hi. I need help activating MBraille on my IPhone 13 mini. It's been
downloaded and I added the third party keyboard. When I enter a text field
the MBraille keyboard shows up, but when I double tap on it I get something
about doing a long swipe to activate. Nothing seems to work and I use this
app quite often. Could someone please give me simple step-by-step
directions to activate it. You can write me privately at

God bless!

Re: I find iOS 15 to be one of the least buggy upgrades in a long time, what are the more significant bugs you still experience?

Hi Richard and all,
Thanks for replying it's greatly
appreciated.  I tried that and even tried resetting all settings
which brought its own fun and didn't impact the situation for
long. I.e. it'd work for a while and then quit. However, it
seems that the arrival of 15.0.1 has made things better. I'll
take it for as long as it lasts.
Take good care.

Subject: I find iOS 15 to be one of the least buggy upgrades in a long
time, what are the more significant bugs you still experience?

The subject sort of says it. I am curious to hear what major bugs people
are dealing with because I sometimes see statements like "iOS is a mess"
and "I won't upgrade until some of the bugs have been resolved" etc.
I would encourage people also mention what device they use, my current
phone is an iPhone 11. Please furthermore be specific instead of saying
something "I don't like the new Focus feature" since that of course is not
a bug but a new feature and there will always be things maybe one would
wish had stayed as it was.

Also, before you mention the issue where Voiceover doesn't sometimes say
the name of an app in the app switcher when you flick left, try the fix I
read about and posted: go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion and turn of
 Reduce Motion.
If somebody knows of a good reason why Reduce Motion should be on I'd like
to hear it and while I don't necessarily disagree that Voiceover should
read the app names even with this turned on, turning it off is a
fix/work-around for now especially if it doesn't have any other
 consequences.

Another issue which was mentioned when Applevis released their warning
prior to the iOS 15 release about the bugs they experienced or heard about
is the one where the Wallet app crashes when you flick through your
cards/passes. I am very curious to hear how many people have this problem.
As I said above, I use an iPhone 11 and this has never happened to me and
I tried it also by turning on Voiceover on my wife's iPhone 11 Pro and it
 also works fine.

garbled messages

2021-10-07 Thread Vicki W.
Hi,

Once again, since my update, things are crazy on my phone. If I go into my
messages to read them from there rather than on the locked screen, the words
are mixed up, missing and completely garbled. If it weren't so irritating, it
would be hilarious. This happens on messages from people to me.

Is there a way to straighten out this messy text? I also had the 128 HZ icon
right next to my battery level status, which is strange since this is on my
older SE, and I'm not finding anywhere to change it. I wondered if that might
be messing up my text.

Thanks.

2021-10-07 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
Thanks for that "fix" which is not really a fix but simply a setting which you
adjust to your liking.
When a new version of iOS comes out it is always a good idea to set aside some
time and go through all the items in Voiceover settings to see what might be
new and how changing certain settings make things better for you or not.

Obviously, one size does not fit all. Many of us did in fact find annoying
bugs in 15. That annoying haptic on no items discovered was terrible, and my
hey Siri doesn't work on the locked phone, which isn't a biggy, but not a

what are the more significant bugs you still experience?

The subject sort of says it. I am curious to hear what major bugs people are
dealing with because I sometimes see statements like "iOS is a mess" and "I
won't upgrade until some of the bugs have been resolved" etc.

I would encourage people also mention what device they use, my current phone is
an iPhone 11. Please furthermore be specific instead of saying something "I
don't like the new Focus feature" since that of course is not a bug but a new
feature and there will always be things maybe one would wish had stayed as it
was.

Also, before you mention the issue where Voiceover doesn't sometimes say the
name of an app in the app switcher when you flick left, try the fix I read
about and posted: go to Settings > Accessibility > Motion and turn of Reduce
Motion.

If somebody knows of a good reason why Reduce Motion should be on I'd like to
hear it and while I don't necessarily disagree that Voiceover should read the
app names even with this turned on, turning it off is a fix/work-around for now
especially if it doesn't have any other consequences.

Another issue which was mentioned when Applevis released their warning prior to
the iOS 15 release about the bugs they experienced or heard about is the one

Hi,
I actually thought this was a new
feature rather than a bug but I could be wrong. Interestingly
however, it doesn't always happen. There seems to be no
discernible pattern to when audio messages give you the
attachment designation and then give you the seemingly new audio
listening screen featuring a play button and a time scrubber
element which I find rather helpful for reviewing such messages.
As I said sometimes it appears and sometimes the audio messages
simply play with a double tap on them and I haven't a clue as to
what governs this. I've also noticed that when either recording
or listening to one of these messages if you have auto lock set
to a timed interval such as 5 minutes in my case whether
recording an audio message or listening it's as if the device
doesn't recognize that you're doing something and it'll lock
itself thus either ending your recording rather unceremoniously
or stopping your playback. It's very strange indeed.
Take good care.

Obviously, one size does not fit all.  Many of us did in fact find
annoying bugs in 15.  That annoying haptic on no items discovered was
terrible, and my hey Siri doesn't work on the locked phone, which isn't
a biggy, but not a problem before.  And, all the phrases removed from
hey Siri might be a big problem to people with typing issues.  Please
stop minimizing the problems of some just because they don't affect you.

voice clock question

2021-10-07 Thread Paula Jordan
I'm looking for a clock app that would announce or chime every 15 minutes.
I have big ben set up to do just that, but it doesn't seem to be working.
It's on in notifications, so I downloaded voiceClock. All I can find in
voice clock is to announce the time every minute. Is there a way to change
that to every 15 minutes? Thanks.

God bless!

RE: voice clock question

2021-10-07 Thread Kevin Minor
Hi Paula.

First, if you’re using Voiceover Clock, and I mention this, because it’s called
Voice Clock on the home screen, flick up and down on the option you found until
you get it to 15 minutes.

Second, if you have it set for every fifteen minutes, it stops after 64 times,
or 16 hours. It doesn’t restart. If you don’t want it to do that, it has to be
set for every 30 minutes at a minimum.

I’m using Voiceover Clock, and it works well for me. It may not announce the
time as often as I like, but I can live with half an hour announcements.

Have a blessed day and don’t work too hard.

Thanks for that "fix" which is not really a fix but simply a setting which you
adjust to your liking.

When a new version of iOS comes out it is always a good idea to set aside some
time and go through all the items in Voiceover settings to see what might be
new and how changing certain settings make things better for you or not.

Hi Penny,

Go to settings, accessibility, vision/voice over, audio, sounds and haptics, no

That should do it.

Once again, since my update, things are crazy on my phone. If I go into my
