Would This Work?

2023-10-20 Thread Brandon Olivares
OK I’m sorry if this sounds silly, but I wanted to ask if anyone thinks this
might work or might have a better idea.

I have two kittens. We give them these feeder balls where they have to roll
them around to get the food out of them. It keeps them active and encourages
their hunting instinct.

Well the problem is it’s always hard to find the balls so I can refill them
with food.

I was thinking whether I could use an Apple Air Tag to somehow attach to the
ball. Then I could make it play a noise so I could find exactly where it is.

I’m just not sure how I’d attach it. It looks like it might be big enough I
thought maybe I could just put it right inside the ball, and I think the holes
in the ball would be too small for it to fall out.

What do you think? Or do you have a better idea?

Thanks,
Brandon

I'd suggest putting a bell in it, one that is big enough that it won't fall
out. And perhaps you could attach a piece of string to them or something so you
can also find them more easily on the floor.

Onscreen Keyboard Does Not Show Up On my iPhones since Recent Update

2023-10-20 Thread Ron Canazzi

Hi Group,

I  am wondering if anyone else is seeing this and if there is a fix.

For years now, when using the iPhone, when I double tap an edit field, I
get the message: 'text field insertion point at start (sometimes
insertion point at end.' I can then move down to a keyboard with
standard QWERTY keys and a dictate button and enter/search/go button in
the bottom right area.

I hadn't tried entering anything for a week or so and I noticed there
had been an update to the IOS in the past few days.  Now when I double
tap on an edit field, I no longer see a QWERTY type keyboard anywhere on
screen for me to enter text.  There is a dictate button, but nothing else.

is this a bug introduced recently in the latest IOS update? How can I
make the onscreen keyboard appear as it has for years? Thanks for any help.

RE: Onscreen Keyboard Does Not Show Up On my iPhones since Recent Update

2023-10-20 Thread Richard Turner
Do you use any bluetooth keyboards, qwerty or braille?

If so, connect it and make sure the QuickNav is off before disconnecting the
keyboard or braille display.

Disconnecting while QuickNav is on has left me in the same boat at times.
But since I made sure to turn QuickNav off before disconnecting, no problems
have raised their ugly head.

I love the tag idea! If you can fit the tag in

I spend a lot of time crawling around on the

Hi Ron,
Space+q is a toggle for QuickNav.
If you have VoiceOver set to speak QuickNav status it will tell you when it is
on or off.
You want it off.
I believe that setting is under VoiceOver settings, Verbosity...

I'd suggest putting a bell in it, one that is big enough that it won't fall
out. And perhaps you could attach a piece of string to them or something so you
can also find them more easily on the floor.

Not unless it was a pretty long string, and then I’d be afraid of my cats
getting tangled up in it. But a lot of times the ball is behind the TV or under
the dresser, so it’d have to be a long string to be able to really make a
difference.

Hi Ron,
Space+q is a toggle for QuickNav.
If you have VoiceOver set to speak QuickNav status it will tell you when it is
on or off.
You want it off.
I believe that setting is under VoiceOver settings, Verbosity...

Logitech Keyboard and Apple TV 4th Generation

2023-10-20 Thread Les Kriegler
Hi All,

I have been using a Logitech K380 with my Apple TV 4th Generation for about
two years. After going away for a couple weeks, when returning, that
keyboard no longer works. The arrows yield no response and the Return key
either does nothing or launches a different app that I am focused on. Since
my keyboard was out of warranty, I decided to purchase the K780 which I know
many use on this list. The same problems with unresponsive arrow keys are
present on that keyboard. On my iPhone, the return key does not activate an
app. Logitech says it is something Apple software modified. Is anybody
successfully using am Apple TV 4th Generation with either the K380 or K780?
If anyone can suggest another compatible keyboard, that would be
appreciated.

Best,

Les

Yes, they are. You will have to go into the Health app on your iPhone
or iPad in order to view the results. You may be able to view results
from the apps or complications on your Series 9 watch, but I have
gotten more information on my iPhone, not to mention had an easier
time navigating the larger screen.

Good luck,

System sounds lower in iOS 17

2023-10-20 Thread Wayne Merritt
Greetings. I thought I have seen a control or setting to adjust the
volume of the system and notification sounds in iOS 17. For whatever
reason, my system and notification sounds seem to be lower than the
VoiceOver sounds. I have my sound and alert volume set fairly high, so
that I can hear my alarms when they go off, but I'm still having
trouble hearing certain sounds. For example, the swish noise when a
text or iMessage is sent or received. I understand the sound volume is
lower for the default notification sounds. In that case though I have
my phone set to vibrate along with making the sound. Is there a
setting I can adjust to raise the volume? For the record, I'm running
iOS 17.0.3.

Warmly,
Wayne

You have to have the camera of one facing the screen of the other one. It has
been two years since I did this, so I'm not sure if the new phone camera needs
to see the screen of the old one or the other way around.

As I said, in my original note, it is under voiceover settings for verbosity.
Here is what mine shows currently.

Also, the couple of times I've done this, you can keep swiping to get to a
manual option for doing a phone to phone transfer and you'll be sent a code on
one phone to input into the other phone. I always prefer doing this transfer
manually.

Re: System sounds lower in iOS 17

2023-10-20 Thread Lisa Belville
What's your VO volume set to?  Try adjusting that instead of your
notification sounds, or try picking another sound for mail.  I went back
to the old text tri-tone because the sound iOS 17 used was not very
loud, even with my alert volume set high.

don't like doing this way, it makes me think I'm losing my hearing.  But
I've missed notifications before.  Never a call, because it seems like
the phone ringers haven't decreased in volume, but in particular, the
default tones for in coming texts and push notifications doesn't seem to
be as loud as with previous versions of iOS, so if the phone is across
the room and I get a text, I at least have the vibration sound to fall
back on.

I currently have my VO volume set to 40%, but volume is in my rotor, so
I can easily adjust it either through the rotor or with the side button.

Unfortunately, I don't have a better solution.

Subject: Logitech Keyboard and Apple TV 4th Generation

Hi All,

I have been using a Logitech K380 with my Apple TV 4th Generation for about two
years. After going away for a couple weeks, when returning, that keyboard no
longer works. The arrows yield no response and the Return key either does
nothing or launches a different app that I am focused on. Since my keyboard was
out of warranty, I decided to purchase the K780 which I know many use on this
list. The same problems with unresponsive arrow keys are present on that
keyboard. On my iPhone, the return key does not activate an app. Logitech says
it is something Apple software modified. Is anybody successfully using am Apple
TV 4th Generation with either the K380 or K780? If anyone can suggest another
compatible keyboard, that would be appreciated.

Best,

Les

Also, the couple of times I've done this, you can keep swiping to get to a
manual option for doing a phone to phone transfer and you'll be sent a code on
one phone to input into the other phone. I always prefer doing this transfer

What's your VO volume set to? Try adjusting that instead of your notification

tri-tone because the sound iOS 17 used was not very loud, even with my alert

iOS 17.1 should be coming up next week. The release candidate was made
available earlier this week so barring any showstoppers, everybody should be
getting it sometime early next week.

RE: Question: Is Anyone Using two eSIM Cards in an iPhone?

2023-10-20 Thread M. Taylor
Hello All,

1.
Using the eSIM generator app from T-Mobile, I easily created and setup a
secondary number on my beloved 14. I must admit the process was remarkably
simple and completely VoiceOver accessible.

2.
I am truly impressed with the customization that is available when multiple
eSIM cards are active on iPhone.

3.
Cory, you mentioned that you can set a default ring tone for each eSIM number.
Using the instructions you listed in a previous post, I do not see an option to
select which telephone number will be set as the default ring tone for a number.

What OS are you running on your phone? I am currently running iOS 16.7.

If you can provide more detailed steps on how to select a default ringtone for
each number, I would greatly appreciate it.

Mark

Hi,
I don’t know if you can assign a different ring to all five. However, if you
open settings and sounds and choose ringtone or text tone, there will be a
setting for primary and secondary.

RE: Question: Is Anyone Using two eSIM Cards in an iPhone?

2023-10-20 Thread M. Taylor
Hello William,

Assuming one wishes to use multiple eSIM cards from the same wireless provider,
or its subsidiary, then a phone does not need to be unlocked.

However, if one wishes to use multiple eSIM cards from non-partnered wireless
providers, then the phone needs to be completely unlocked.

I have an iPhone from T-Mobile. Yes, it is locked but what I’ve done is use a
service called Digits. It is from T-Mobile and costs ten bucks a month. I use
this for my mobile number for my job. I also use it to give out to those who I
don’t want having my private number.

Instead of using the feeder balls for exercise, have you considered using a
remote control feeder mouse? Or a laser light pointer? We have a 3yr old Red
Tip siamese who loves chasing his remote control mouse. I'm able to find the
mouse when he is finished playing by pressing the buttons on the remote &
following the sound. Of course, both of these toy suggestions require you to be
an active play participant.

Hello Wayne,

I don't know if this will help but it is certainly a good place to start.

>From the Settings menu:

1.
Select Face ID and Passcode.

2.
Toggle "Attention Aware Features" to off.

3.
Return to the previous screen and then reboot your device.

Wayne, be certain that you select Attention aware features. This is a separate
setting from the require Face ID attention toggle.

I hope this helps.

go off, but I'm still having trouble hearing certain sounds. For example, the
swish noise when a text or iMessage is sent or received. I understand the sound
volume is lower for the default notification sounds. In that case though I have
my phone set to vibrate along with making the sound. Is there a setting I can
adjust to raise the volume? For the record, I'm running iOS 17.0.3.

Warmly,
Wayne

If you are still running 16.6, I wonder if your phone is maybe not supported
with iOS 17.
What model phone do you have?

RE: Onscreen Keyboard Does Not Show Up On my iPhones since Recent Update

2023-10-20 Thread Debbie April Yuille
Hi Ron

I've had that problem too. What you need to do, is put your cursor in the text
area like usual. Then, while keeping your finger in that area, turn voice over
off then with your finger, do a long press, hopefully when you then turn voice
over back on, your keyboard should be there.

Subject: Onscreen Keyboard Does Not Show Up On my iPhones since Recent Update

Hi Group,

I am wondering if anyone else is seeing this and if there is a fix.

For years now, when using the iPhone, when I double tap an edit field, I get
the message: 'text field insertion point at start (sometimes insertion point at
end.' I can then move down to a keyboard with standard QWERTY keys and a
dictate button and enter/search/go button in the bottom right area.

I hadn't tried entering anything for a week or so and I noticed there had been
an update to the IOS in the past few days. Now when I double tap on an edit
field, I no longer see a QWERTY type keyboard anywhere on screen for me to
enter text. There is a dictate button, but nothing else.

is this a bug introduced recently in the latest IOS update? How can I make the
onscreen keyboard appear as it has for years? Thanks for any help.

They have lots of active toys and I play with them regularly. But I like the
feeder balls because it makes them hunt for their food, which makes them more
satisfied because it plays more to their natural instinct.

Plus at this point they love the feeder balls 😀

I'd suggest putting a bell in it, one that is big enough that it won't
fall out. And perhaps you could attach a piece of string to them or
something so you can also find them more easily on the floor.

RE: System sounds lower in iOS 17

2023-10-20 Thread Sieghard Weitzel
There is no advantage to wait, in the current release of iOS 17 there are no
major issues which are fixed in iOS 17.1, at least not to my knowledge.
Some people seem to be having issues with braille displays, but since I have
never used one and never will I can't speak to this and it would appear from
the messages I have seen, that the problems may have to do with the particular
set of settings on a phone because other people who use the same braille
display don't have them.
It's unfortunate that Apple seems to be introducing issues which are
specifically related to certain settings as these are hard to pin down.

When is 17.1 going to be available? I am waiting for it to update from 16.6.1.

This is a bug that seems to have been fixed with iOS 17.1.

Greetings. I thought I have seen a control or setting to adjust the
volume of the system and notification sounds in iOS 17. For
whatever reason, my system and notification sounds seem to be lower
than the VoiceOver sounds. I have my sound and alert volume set
fairly high, so that I can hear my alarms when they go off, but I'm
still having trouble hearing certain sounds. For example, the swish
noise when a text or iMessage is sent or received. I understand the
sound volume is lower for the default notification sounds. In that
case though I have my phone set to vibrate along with making the
sound. Is there a setting I can adjust to raise the volume? For the
 record, I'm running iOS 17.0.3.

 Warmly,
 Wayne
