Password
I am new to VNC and am trying to set it up on student workstations in a computer lab so that I can troubleshoot and also monitor student computers. I wanted to keep the students from changing the settings so I changed the registry value according to the documentation. I couldnt quite figure out the password settings though. According to the documentation, the registry values are DWORD values but a password cannot be a DWORD value can it? I tried it as a string value but when I tried to access the computer remotely it failed to authenticate. Re: VNC 4.0B4 Cursor Disappearing
Karl, Are you saying that the client cursor dissappears when you drag and drop, or the server cursor? Are you using local cursor rendering at the client? Are you *sure* that you're running VNC 4b4 at both ends? XP Pro with password protected screensaver problem
I am running VNC 3.3.7 on WinXP Pro as a service with fast user switching and remote desktop disabled. The system has the default WinXP screen saver running with a password required on resume. I can connect to the WinXP box with VNC viewer from a Win98 box. However. if the screen saver is running on the WinXP machine, I cannot connect. If I have a session running and the screen saver on the WinXP kicks in, I can watch the screen saver on the remote machine, but as soon as I move the mouse (on the host or remote machine) the session is lost. If the screen saver is running on the host machine, I cannot connect with VNC from the remote machine. Any ideas people may have on how to solve this problem will be appreciated. ___ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To remove yourself from the list visit: http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list

VNC and file transfers - win2003
Two questions... 1) VNC and file transfers.where do I start them? At what menu prompts? I am familiar with remote admin and Pcanywhere functions and they both have file transfer modes. I would like to use VNC exclusive but I find myself going to one of the other two to accomplish my needs. HELP! 2) When I use VNC I seem to be having problem connecting to Windows 2003 servers only. I have to install a secondary remote software to keep from being locked out. Any updates or suggestions? Thanks in advance for your time. Re: VNC 4.0B4 Cursor Disappearing
Hi James... Both ends are win2k and VNC 4b4. I am using local cursor rendering (default installation). What happens is that when I drag and drop, the local cursor rendering stops and only the remote rendering happens. But this is much slower and makes it hard to navigate. The local rendering seems to come only with the full screen updates which takes about 4 seconds (from home to work). If I drag and drop locally on the machine, the cursor stays as an arrow, but the file name becomes highlited and transparent and moves with the cursor. RE: Password
The password is encrypted. You will either have to enter it in to the password settings box in VNC and copy the encrypted value from the registry, or use VncEnc to tell you the encoded value of the password. You can get VncEnc from http://www.darkage.co.uk/vnc/howto/vncenc.htm In fact if the machines in question are NT, 2000, XP you can use fastpush from the same site to install vnc with the settings you want remotely. -Original Message- From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] On Behalf Of Paul K Cahoon Sent: Monday, October 06, 2003 8:43 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Password I am new to VNC and am trying to set it up on student workstations in a computer lab so that I can troubleshoot and also monitor student computers. Multiple Java VNC connetions and Router
My problem might get a little complex because of the way its setup. So if im not that clear explaining it, excuse me...ill try and clear things up if theres a problem. Right now I am running Linux with two VMWare sessions...one is WinXP Pro(192.168.0.101) and one is Win Server 2k3(192.168.0.90). I have it setup correctly now so that I can directly connect to these machines with VNCViewer. I have port 5900 - 192.168.0.101 Port 5900 and port 5901 - 192.168.0.90 Port 5900. The problem exists when I try to connect to the servers via the Java Viewer. I have it setup so that port 5800 - 192.168.0.101 Port 5800 and port 5808- 192.168.0.90 port 5800. I can connect to the 192.168.0.101 machine just fine by opening a broswer and going to http://myipaddress:5800/ When i try to connect to my second machine (192.168.0.90) i type in http://myipaddress:5808/ Whats weird is on top in the title bar it says Win2k3 (the correct computer name) but the computer that is actually in the java window is the first computer. The password for the 2k3 machine wont work, so i have to put in the password for the WinXP machine, and then that machine comes up. The question is...why isnt it being routed the right way? ___ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To remove yourself from the list visit: http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list

You might try making the second one port 5801 instead of 5808. I suspect, though, that the actual paramaters being passed to the java viewer (you can look at the source of the web page) tell it to connect to 5900. This is because the from the point of view of 192.168.0.90 the VNC server is port 5900. If this is the case, change the display number on the second one to 1 and then use the 5901, 5801 pair. -- William Hooper ___ VNC-List mailing list [EMAIL PROTECTED] To remove yourself from the list visit: http://www.realvnc.com/mailman/listinfo/vnc-list
Re: trouble with browser Viewer
Dai: Heya. Sorry for the late reply. The scan at GoToMYVNC only checks out port 5900-5909; the browser-based VNC Viewer needs to use port 5800 as well. So it sounds like you setup your router to let port 5900 thru...but did you forget to setup port 5800? cheers, Scott Situation: I want to connect via a browser to my home network (TIGHTVNC SERVER) through a router from my work that has a firewall with a proxy server. I have gone through GOTOMYVNC.COM and the results came back as such = Checking you out at IP address xx.xxx.xxx.139... xx.xxx.xxx.139 is accepting connections on Display 0 (TCP port 5900). ... ... = I have been able to use the browser to connect to other computers on the same network at work. Failed to connect to server
I'm new to VNC and am having some trouble connecting to my vncserver at home from my office. I am using a motorolla cable modem with a linksys BEFSR41 router running behind it. I get dynamic IP's from Comcast and my router has DHCP enabled and none of my IP's are in DMZ. I'm running Redhat 9. I think my main problem is understanding port forwarding. I have opened port 5900 for my 1.100 ip (that's my base ip). Is the proper syntax router ip address:5900? If I'm way off on this please forgive me. If anyone can shed some light on this for me I would appreciate it. Jason _ Add MSN 8 Internet Software to your existing Internet access and enjoy patented spam protection and more. realvnc 3.3.7 on aix 4.3.3 - imake borken?
There was a post in May of last year that seems to be the same problem I am experiencing now. I'm trying to compile RealVNC 3.3.7 on AIX 4.3.3. The error I am getting is: make[4]: Entering directory `/afs/apd.pok.ibm.com/u/jayen/src/vnc-3.3.7-unixsrc/Xvnc/programs/Xserver/hw/vnc' Makefile:562: *** missing separator. Stop. make[4]: Leaving directory `/afs/apd.pok.ibm.com/u/jayen/src/vnc-3.3.7-unixsrc/Xvnc/programs/Xserver/hw/vnc' and looking at the makefile, it contains the lines: CleanTarget() #ifndef IHaveSpecialMakefileTarget MakefileTarget() #endif TagsTarget() #ifdef MakefileAdditions MakefileAdditions() #endif ... So, it looks like the imake program isn't evaluating some of its functions when it creates the makefile. Hello, i have a problem appearing with win 2k and win xp: when a client is connected via vnc to the vnc-server the machine on which one the server is running gets very slow in reacting on mouse-movements (not only for the remote client, also for the server directly).
