FreePPP problems
I'm having problems using FreePPP to connect to iinet. Up until now, it's been great! I've never had a problem. Then some time between connecting on Sunday (with no problems) and trying to connect yesterday, the program appears to have spontaneously combusted on me. I can dial up fine. A connection is established like usual. But it will only connect to iinet for less than a minute before the connection is dropped again. During that brief time, I get error messages from Netscape saying that there is no network socket established, while Eudora says 'Error involving Domain Name System 701; An error occurred while initializing Open Transport Internet Services'. So I've tried reinstalling Open Transport to fix the problem; reinstalling FreePPP 2.6.2; reinstalling the OS (9.2.1); and switching the internal modem configuration from V90 to V34. But none of it made any difference. Out of sheer desperation, I changed tactics and went through the Remote Access internet setup that comes with the OS. And that works fine (hence I'm able to actually send an email for help!). But I'd like to fix the FreePPP problem if I can. I saw on the MacFixit forum that some people were having problems with FreePPP running through the authentication process too fast for the ISP to keep up with. But I don't think that is the problem because the program tells me that a connection is established -- it just doesn't seem stable. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have a b+w G3, running 9.2.1, 256 MBs ram, 56K internal modem. Claudia. :) -- = [EMAIL PROTECTED] Due to intense mind fog, all thoughts have been grounded.
price on hd
Hi Can anyone give me a price on a 20Gb internal HD for a PB G3/333 Lombard (pre FW)? Would like to replace my current 4Gb, and put it into a expansion bay module so that I can boot from it. Thanks Angus
Disappearing printer
I've been getting intermittent problems with a Canon BJC printer disappearing from the USB port of an iMac. Tried re-booting, re-installing drivers, re-starting, zapping PRAMs, changing cable, changing USB port etc etc. Apple System profiler and Chooser still tells me no device is attached. Took the printer to a service centre and they say it's fine on a PC box (don't want to know about iMacs, of course). Any suggestions? -- Dr J.M. Cummins Anatomy, Div. Vet. Re: Disappearing printer
Hi Jim and WAMUG folks. By any chance, did the problem start occurring after you upgraded to Mac OS 9.2.x? If so, have you had a look through some of the extensions in the Extension Manager control panel, and turned off *everything* that you don't need (e.g. RioUSB, PalmUSB (if you're not using a PalmPilot) etc. Also, did you do a 'dirty' (over-the-top) install, or a clean install to Mac OS 9.2? Have you tried doing a 'clean' install on your computer, to see if the printer works then? There may well be a USB-driver conflict or similar, that has occurred since your OS upgrade. Cheers. Derek. To be quite honest, the entire OS is a 1.0 release. The bug list is a mile long, and the feature request list is even longer. Please don't forget that OS9 has had 15 years to get to where it is now. OSX (In it's current form) has only had about 2 or 3 years of really solid work. There are some VERY exciting things coming. It just takes time. :-) PS... January will be fun! Downloading Appleworks 6.2 for OSX
Hello there WAMUG folks, I have tried downloading Appleworks 6.2 for OSX from the Apple site and each time I get the file name nph-regita.pl in the Download Manager. Although the status indicates Transferring, the number of bytes downloaded remains at zero and there is no sign of activity. Any ideas please ? Or is there a better site to download this from ? 5200 Hard drive replacement
I've recently been given an old Performa 5200 with a dodgy hard drive (only spins up about once in every 25 start-up attempts) so I've been looking to replace the drive. What kind of hard drives can be put in this machine? Apple's site says IDE (ATA) but are they the same kind of ATA drives as are used in newer macs or is there an older standard of ATA? Thanks Ben
MacSatellite 1.4
I have the same problem. All was going well with AudioGalaxy until the MacSatellite update. In the meantime I have switched back to Mactella but it is clumsy and slow compared to AudioGalaxy. Waiting, waiting ... Best wishes Edward Has anyone else been having trouble connecting since updating to MacSatellite v.1.4 ? I keep getting - 'Login Error : Wrong version, please update! Go to Menu File - AutoUpdate' When I do this, I get 'no update available'. I know v1.4 is the latest update my Preferences are still the same. Any light on this will be appreciated. Regards, Ronni
